I’m spite of the commonly accepted facts about the flight performance of the aircraft these pilots were ACTUALLY FLYING IT not using pointer aim with perfect instrument data constantly represented clearly in the top corner of the screen. Every plane in this game performs FAR above its real life performance simply due to the fact that all human limitations except for decision making are entirely removed
@@_ace_defective_ Yeah, also, i remember watching a vid about F-22 Raptor, pilots basically said that the limitations of its flight performance were the pilots themselves.
Past 10g, your eyes and blood capilarries can actually pop. A one second, 12 g pull, can temporarily lead to pilot blindness, and permanent spine and vision damage. Sustained 7g+ pulls can also do this. With each additional G of pull above +3g or +4g, adds not linearly, but exponential. So when a f16 or f22 pilot pulls a 7 or 9g pull, the only thing besides their training that keeps them alive, is the leg squeezers and flight controls.
About the whole flight envelope thing. Keep in mind that at the time the Thunderchief was first flown, sub- and transonic aircraft were the mainstay. Most pilots who flew in one first flew in jets like the Sabre or Super Sabre. Going from that to any Mach 2 capable 3rd generation afterburning jet aircraft, the pilots would have absolutely described this aircraft as a brick, no matter if it was an F-105, F-4, or MiG-23. There are numerous reports about the F-4s flying like slugs, being not agile at all, just like the Thunderchief. Same goes with the F-8. But any War Thunder player will tell you that they turn just fine, pretty averagely for the typical jet of similar age and speed profile. This is compounded by the fact that the F-105 was one of the first of these not-very-agile 3rd gen American brick planes, making it all the more likely that pilots used to the subsonic agility of a Sabre would suddenly get put in one of these and complain why he can't turn 180 degrees in 20 seconds anymore. And further compounded by the fact that F-105s typically flew ground attack missions which meant they were weighed down by tons and tons of bombs, making them even more bricklike to fly. I'm willing to bet War Thunder's representation of the Thunderchief is accurate enough, or at least as accurate as War Thunder's planes usually are.
The other thing you have to think about is that War Thunder planes fly like they have a FBW because the game does most of the flying for you. This, combined with the fact that there is no compressor stalling or wing stalling modelled, results in aircraft like the Viggen and Thud being much better at dogfights than they were in real life.
@@henryoshea4951 Wing stalling is absolutely modeled. It's a requirement for any even vaguely simlike game. Instructor (the AI that pilots your aircraft) has baked-in maximum angle of attack limitations imposed on each and every plane. If it detects an AoA higher than this then it will refuse to pitch the aircraft any harder, making stalls nearly impossible unless you fly using a joystick. Using the WT Assistant app, you can watch your aircraft's angle of attack, thrust, horsepower, engine RPM, and all sorts of other info change in realtime. The flight models are very detailed, more so than some early sims like IL-2 1946.
@@skyscall Facts. I fly with a joystick (even in arcade), and when I’m playing RB, I have to turn the instructor on, otherwise I tend to overcook the turns and lose control. But if I switch back to AB I have to turn the instructor back off, or my turns are artificially restricted by the instructor.

6:07 To add to other commenters the real life all F-105s had an internal fuel tank fitted in the bomb bay, where to nuke would go, which we don't heavy fitted. Remember planes IRL usually start with a full fuel load for long strike missions, especially in Vietnam. Can't wait for her to get custom loadouts to mix AIM-9s and a Chaff pod.
Unlocked this a couple months ago, probably my favorite US jet so far. Everyone seems to be criticizing your comments on the flight envelope so I figured I'd add my shitty hot take: I blame its (former) air spawn. Taking this thing out from the runway with a full bomb load, as you have to today, it absolutely feels like a brick about until you go supersonic, which can take a little while. It's not Scimitar levels of brick but definitely still a brick at least in the initial acceleration. And from what little I know about the Thud's usage in Vietnam, primarily operating it at these lower speeds probably contributed a lot to its brick status, especially against planes like the mig 17 that could dance all over it. The air spawn basically gave it the speed it depends on from the start, and this thing is fast enough to regularly outrun missiles with good positioning. Couple that with good initial snap turn performance and very good energy retention/recovery after bomb release, and I can absolutely see how this could be pretty abusive if used as a pure fighter/interceptor. It's a shame that the main way gaijin balanced it and planes with similar flight profiles was by giving literally everything a runway spawn.
One day we will get the song. I have scoured the internet and gotten nothing, this is my third time trying. From my time looking for a theme from a video made in 2010 it'll be found eventually, just gonna take a while.

The end of this video is a bit too surreal for what feels like a video game haha, makes you forget that all these vehicles were used in very real wars with death and struggle.
Your videos are fun to watch and super informative! On a quick aside what planes do you plan on covering next? More higher tiered jets like the super sabres, hunters, MiG 19s, etc. or some more lower tiered piston aircraft?
A mix - the next few will be stuff added in the recent patch. When a new patch comes out I usually try to get reviews up of the more significant new vehicles as quickly as I can, but after thats done I'll be back to stuff at random. I have a few lower tiered vids already completed, which will be released over the next few weeks.
Pretty sure it's the wing design that allows it to turn like that but only under 500kmph as if it starts turning above those speeds you'll rip apart quickly. Still the ability to turn so well is a godsend when nearly all the time you face greedy & foolish fighters that go straight for you especially when you're aiding your allies as a stop gap fighter in a furball. The amount of times people will just lemon train onto a Canberra over a much more dangerous fighter in a dogfight is just daft & sad. But for now it'll keep nickname for it The Fat Ballerina (also a movie reference to a fat guy fighting).
Hi Tim! Along with the overperforming maneuverability of this plane, it’s thrust and top speed are also underperforming by quite a bit. According to the official SAC sheet, it’s going around 15 knots slower than it should at sea level, and it’s missing around 3000lbf of static thrust according to my testing with WTRTI. I also have a pretty significant list of other bugs with the aircraft if anybody is interested. Great video!
I don’t fly jets in WT… I unlocked dozens but I prefer props. However I really enjoy your reviews! 👍🏻👍🏻 Oh and that song at the end was priceless! Glad I found your channel!
You could mention, by far, most losses were to anti-aircraft fire.. And the thuds could outrun the MiG-21s and their missiles if enough distance between them. Those early, Russian missiles could not run that long, like AIM-9Bs..

The only thing I’ve been killed by 99% of the time in the f105 is any variation of the mig21, it’s the only thing that can keep up with it even with no load out and full afterburner. It’s possible to get up to Mach 1.4 but you’ll be dead by an r60 by then. No escape from mig 21 unfortunately :(
I'm in the middle of grinding out my Israeli tech tree, and I'm using the F-84F to start with. Now, to efficiently grind from Tier 6 to Tier 7, the Thunderstreak won't be particularly efficient. I am wondering how the Sa'ar functions in this role. With a useful load of 4x500KG +2 Shafrir-2, but no afterburner, is the Sa'ar actually competitive for a 9.0 BR jet?
While the fm is still busted the f105 may actually be a better choice than the f100 (same missiles, Vulcan, similar performance) what a great excuse to blow a ton of silver lions to get the canberras
wow, i grinded to the cl-13 latly and what should i say. no super sonic, no afterburner, no heatseaker, minimal payload, no counter measures at all just a basic after war first gen. plane. And for just 0.3 br higher you get all of that good stuff. Br's seems very odd to me.
There were two specific thunderchiefs that wore experimental liveries in service with the ANG. "My Karma" had the grey and green Euro Camo, while "Desert Fox" had a tan and brown desert camo
Occasionally, but its obviously not my main focus. I feel like far too many youtubers already focus on ground stuff already, there isnt a lot of room left so to speak.
Ah yes the F105 also know as free RP. I target these guys first always cuz no flares and most of the time 105s will suicide bomb bases so you can slot in behind and pop a missle
If this thing goes up in br it's going to get murdered by the higher tier migs and mirages. It already does get murdered by things like the F4F Early and Mig-21 SpS-K, Mirage IIIE.
I feel like they got the f-105 right because it is a brick, you will die if your start to tern and with all the 9.7 premiums ( yes I’m talking about you Sweden) it has a fare Mach up
They have changed it to a ground spawn and raised the BR. I'm finding I'm lucky to get bombs on the first target, and sometimes the rest on a second target. With no warning and no flares, it's missile bait. This video needs to be redone.
It's not that the game envelope isn't right, I think it's the inherit simulation model that makes planes perform too well, so they have to nerf them manually later on.
The D model could carry Shrikes, do you think this would warrant a up in BR once they arrive for all the other aircraft that carried them? Aswell, it'd be nice to have the TopTier Nuclear Aircraft as the Thud with its bomb-bay nuke.
Shrikes would not work in game how you would expect them to. They were specifically built to counter the SA-2 and static sites. Shrikes had to be set to a specific band for guidance and would literally be useless vs the mobile platforms in game. The AGM 78 could maybe be a better choice as the shrike is not anti every radar like you'd think.
I can very honestly say "all of them" , I like to skip around between nations/vehicles when I'm playing a fun night. I'll often pick my stuff based on what BR my buddies I'm squadded up with are at.

Aren't agm-12C bullpups an old thing?
The A-4E and phantoms always had them for at least 1-2 years in-game.
People rarely use them because only get 2 compared to the Agm-12B which come with at least 4 or 5 and they are slow AF compared to the B variant.
For direct hits, it doesn't matter if you the Agm-12B or agm-12C because both one-shot anything. That's why experienced people prefer the smaller bullpups
This plane is good before the update that nerf the air spawn and the sl multiplier now with the warping 17k sl and 330% sl multiplier make it pretty much useless.
F-4C have similar ability and is way cheaper. And they usually match to gather
This thing is insane tbh, I loved the Su-7 (in fighter mode) but this is something else
I really hope Italy gets one of their dedicated ground attack aircraft, like the A-11 Ghibli or AV-8B Harrier II.
So what’s the song towards the end? I need it for my Vietnam playlist. Also great review. Only 10k RP away from mine!
The end of this video is a bit too surreal for what feels like a video game haha, makes you forget that all these vehicles were used in very real wars with death and struggle.
Your presentations are excellent. Keep up the good work!
Where did you find that song at the end? it's wonderful.
Literally the best jet I have right now
I’m using it to grind out the F-4J and it’s doing great.
Your videos are fun to watch and super informative! On a quick aside what planes do you plan on covering next? More higher tiered jets like the super sabres, hunters, MiG 19s, etc. or some more lower tiered piston aircraft?
Nerd lol
A mix - the next few will be stuff added in the recent patch. When a new patch comes out I usually try to get reviews up of the more significant new vehicles as quickly as I can, but after thats done I'll be back to stuff at random. I have a few lower tiered vids already completed, which will be released over the next few weeks.
@@TimsVariety A short video on the ugly Meteor in the Israeli tree would be fun!
@@sailorssilence1983 Its on the list for one of my quick reviews (same format as this video)
@@TimsVariety Great to hear.
yess, I was waiting for this vid, this is one of my favorite planes!
Damn, that outro was not what I was expecting
Good review, and kudos for the pilot's song at the end. That one is one of the tamest for this aircraft! o7
Btw the AGM-12C isn't new to the game, it's been in the game since the f4c came out tho correct me if I'm wrong
I swear it was the A4D-5 that got them first but probably was the Phantom.
@@lordwintertown8284 he's said about in game.
Love seeing your sub count stack up.
Managed to get this thing in 3 days. Haven’t tried it yet, but I have high hopes!
The day they make this plane turn realistically is the day they make the canberra stop turning like a fuckin zero.
@@lordwintertown8284 lol
11:58 you actually included this song. lol
What is the name of the song?
@@AntoineFT115 100 missions to be flown, i think
I don’t fly jets in WT… I unlocked dozens but I prefer props. However I really enjoy your reviews! 👍🏻👍🏻
Oh and that song at the end was priceless!
Glad I found your channel!
has been reworked and has less arnament and you have to sorta choose between missiles and bombs
What is the song used in this video? I cannot seem to find it anywhere for the life of me
I’m still hoping that maybe you could say where the song at the end was found. I’ve scoured UA-cam and online but never found the recording
You could mention, by far, most losses were to anti-aircraft fire.. And the thuds could outrun the MiG-21s and their missiles if enough distance between them. Those early, Russian missiles could not run that long, like AIM-9Bs..
i absolutely loved the outro! Really great video
This plane is basically the reason why i’ll get an F2G to grind the whole US bomber line
Edit: gotta add i don’t like the idea of using the F2G because i’ve been on the receiving end of it but the 105 calls
What?
@@fidus868 ever played german 6.0 air RB? It’s just spit and F2G spam against you, pretty annoying. I don’t like being another F2G user ruining someone else’s experience at 6.0
@@marcoguzzon7477 I am US Airforce Player and thought that the the F2G was the only plane too keep up with the Ju-288 spam. Guess I have to play Germany again.
Try playing the fw190d9 while your team is four 288, one random fighter like a 109k4 against a team composed of a mix of spitfires and F2G
@@marcoguzzon7477 20 mm MineGeschoss tail gun🤗☺️🥰
Just unlocked it things quite the upgrade from the b-57b.
I just started using the Thud. I use is strictly as a bomber with just enough for one base, 14x500 pounders, then 8x750, 7x1000, now 3x2000 pounds. With it I can beat anything on my team to a base except a F-111. I came here to learn a bit about the AIM-9Es. They're a bit disappointing.
What's that song at the end of the vid?
whats the song at the end i love
where is the full song used in the end
By carries a heavier bomb load than “some” ww2 bombers… I think you mean “most”.
Very cool vid and review. I've always liked the look of the 105 and had been waiting for it to appear in the game. I was totally surprised to see it in air to air combat in the game, and just thinking, "that ain't right". So by War Thunder's logic if they ever brought in the Foxbat they would make a nimble fighter as well...lol. Yet, cool to have the Thud in the game.
The thud actually had a pretty decent air to air combat record in Vietnam
@@brannonmeador1792 Depending on source, the kill ratio was slightly below 1 to 1 in air combat.
@@TimsVariety The only source I could find claiming a below 1:1 kill ratio for the F-105 was the north Vietnamese Air Force, but the majority of those kills haven't been confirmed by the USAF.
What is that song at the end, and where can I get it?
hey fast question should i buy the a7e for my 19.7 lineup or buy the thud so i can play it with the event AGS together? and also thx for the content and keep like that :3
Good job, keep up the good work
The repair cost ruined this for me
This plane is considered successful in ground attack role and in aerial dogfights as well, and it has better flight characteristic than F4 and F104.
The only thing I’ve been killed by 99% of the time in the f105 is any variation of the mig21, it’s the only thing that can keep up with it even with no load out and full afterburner. It’s possible to get up to Mach 1.4 but you’ll be dead by an r60 by then. No escape from mig 21 unfortunately :(
True, i kill a f105 every match i play in top tier, with mig 21smt, very easy to kill
Correct me if im wrong, but doesnt the F-4C and F-4E get the agm-12c missiles as well? (The F-4E doesnt really matter though because it gets Maveraks)
F4C has had them since it came out
i love the song in the end. is there a version outside the films that i dont know of?
Wheredid you find such a good version of that song?
what was the song at the end?
While the fm is still busted the f105 may actually be a better choice than the f100 (same missiles, Vulcan, similar performance) what a great excuse to blow a ton of silver lions to get the canberras
similar performance?
It goes mach 1.1 on deck while F-100 can't even break the mach barier there
What song is it in the end
The Aim9E is just an Aim9B that can turn "slightly" more...
"ordnance". i like that word
i was kinda shocked when i saw how tiny the pilot is in the thing. American planes are big man
wow, i grinded to the cl-13 latly and what should i say. no super sonic, no afterburner, no heatseaker, minimal payload, no counter measures at all just a basic after war first gen. plane. And for just 0.3 br higher you get all of that good stuff. Br's seems very odd to me.
Yup the BR system is a dumpster fire atm ... 🙄
There are only two skins, because well, the F-105 only had the Steel and SEA Camo in service, it never got anything else.
There were two specific thunderchiefs that wore experimental liveries in service with the ANG. "My Karma" had the grey and green Euro Camo, while "Desert Fox" had a tan and brown desert camo
What song is that in the end? I can’t find it though “100 missions to be flown.”
You ever gonna touch ground forces, i dont play planes much but i enjoy your reviews and videos
Occasionally, but its obviously not my main focus. I feel like far too many youtubers already focus on ground stuff already, there isnt a lot of room left so to speak.
@@TimsVariety i understand but your take on reviews is very different and i enjoy yours the most
Please tell me what the song is at the end. It’s catchy as hell
I wonder when gaijin is going to put into the game the B52 stratofrotres
also how is called the song that you put at the end?
Request for the F100D? I love the early Vietnam era craft
Gotta be flying the thunderthud soon.
I want an f-111 I want the Nukevark I need it
I know this is late but please please please tell me where to find the song at the end. It's literally nowhere on the Internet
Man, thi videos have some INSANE artifacts (like at 1:54), is this due to compression? It feels so weird! Otherwise, great video as usual!
Ah yes the F105 also know as free RP. I target these guys first always cuz no flares and most of the time 105s will suicide bomb bases so you can slot in behind and pop a missle
I like the F-105 as it is but it needs nuke. It is best to use it as a bomber and it is great for assault air arcade game mode.
Of note: You can catch F-104's and you can outrun R-60MK's
If this thing goes up in br it's going to get murdered by the higher tier migs and mirages. It already does get murdered by things like the F4F Early and Mig-21 SpS-K, Mirage IIIE.
I feel like they got the f-105 right because it is a brick, you will die if your start to tern and with all the 9.7 premiums ( yes I’m talking about you Sweden) it has a fare Mach up
Its basically an armed hotdog.
They have changed it to a ground spawn and raised the BR. I'm finding I'm lucky to get bombs on the first target, and sometimes the rest on a second target. With no warning and no flares, it's missile bait. This video needs to be redone.
this gun is disgustingly strong for 9.7
You got remember though its WARTHUNDER the maneuverability i feel like is fine especially since u got get rid of missels for chaff
17k repair and 10.0,
Pass pls
Quick question: what is the drop order for 14x 750lb and 4x AIM-9E?
First 8 bombs drop in pairs from the wings, the last 6 drop individually from the belly.
I'm just curious; what planes do you fly for fun in War Thunder?
I can very honestly say "all of them" , I like to skip around between nations/vehicles when I'm playing a fun night. I'll often pick my stuff based on what BR my buddies I'm squadded up with are at.
As someone who tries to play the new Vautour I hate this thing
Don’t give me an F-105 ‘cause I like being alive. She’s great for attack, but she soaks up Mach Mach flak. Don’t give me an F-105.
