      Its a brainwashed standard, monopoly regime. Who gave the authority to make nVidia as a standard ? If you goto your local Microcenter or any best buy they easily spell out Intel and nVidia and if you challenge them they go all crazy nuts. End of the day they want some crazy fool to buy some crazy stuffs. Only the real Engineer would know the value of AMD powering from World's top Super Computer to gaming consoles. Truth always wins the numbers shown by AMD presentations are correct and they stand to what they shown. Else people would have sued the company for sure..

    Important factor that you missed with AMD, for Linux gamers as small as that percentage of gamers is, AMD graphics cards essentially get driver updates way past their usable age. There are experimental projects underway right now for the HD 5000 and the HD 6000 to get Vulcan support and it's expected to be done by October. The ATI rage got a performance boost a couple years ago and the the x300 and whatever series that came from in 2004-2005 got substantial performance boost recently as well. And obviously you can do the math for how old and out of date those graphics cards are yet the community continues to support them. You're lucky if you can make any use of an Nvidia GPU older than fermi at this point in the Linux ecosystem.

    The problem is, nvidia cards have EVERYTHING. That's it. Amd cards are really good deals sometimes but when a few dollars aren't going to affect you, nvidia becomes the default option. Tbh if FSR was as good looking as DLSS, I'd buy AMD. On top of that, I don't even care much about RTX but if I'm spending a lot on a card, I'd rather just wanna have the OPTION to turn the setting on for a few minutes and look around at the visuals. It comes down to essentially that for most people i think. The little things do matter. If AMD could have better FSR or ray tracing than nvidia some day, i bet the market distributions would change a lot.

    Valid points are brought up; I definitely agree.
    AMD really does need to design something new for their next release, so it gives gamers a choice. The issue I foresee with this thinking is that it requires money, and when it comes down to it, they only have about 15% of the market share, so resources are tight. Nvidia has a huge advantage in this area.

      @Deathisi 9 місяців тому +1

      Maybe my wording could have been better; "gives gamers more of a choice" might have been more suited. However, I do feel there are way too many variables to decide if a specific card has better performance to currency. In general, I would say that for modern, high-graphics-demanding games, Nvidia still has an edge.
      Keep in mind that I'm someone who wants AMD to succeed, but taking for example, the FSR 3 technology, it's a big step forward for AMD, but only plays catch up to bring them in line with DLSS 3 (but still with slightly less detail). It's great, but Nvidia pulled ahead again right away with DLSS 3.5, using AI upscaling to improve framerates.
      However, I will note that AMD's ray tracing is beginning to catch up with Nvidia's. There are, of course, many more variables, but this reply is getting long, so I'll leave it there.@@MarkLikesCoffee860

      @MarkLikesCoffee860 8 місяців тому +3

      @@Deathisi Yes I agree 100%. Raytracing and DLSS are great features that give Nvidia a big edge. However, Nvidia have only had those two features since the RTX 2080 was released in September 20, 2018. Before that date, Nvidia's market share was 81.2% and raytracing/DLSS didn't exist. The majority of gamers chose the GTX 1060 which didn't have raytracing and didn't have DLSS. The GTX 1060 also only had 6Gb VRAM. The RX 480 was faster and had 8Gb VRAM. This proves it's not the extra features that caused Nvidia's market share to get so big. Gamers had the choice of more VRAM, a higher framerate without losing any features and they still chose Nvidia.

I've had some issues with a Driver Version back in the days where Horizon Zero Dawn would suffer from a memory leak. However, they fixed that. There are games that just favour Nvidia because they have Nvidia's technology baked in, but AMD still manages to hold their ground.

    The thing with Nvidia isn't really their marketing that makes it so common among PC users. I would say it's more the influencers and people you interact with on a daily basis. Most streamers and UA-camrs use Nvidia cards and apple phones. Most of my friends even use Nvidia cards and of course have apple phones. Like apple Nvidia is able to capitalize on being the default choice for people. The reason I went with Nvidia 2 years ago was because I didn't know anything about AMD cards. So that's why AMD has a big disadvantage and Intel has an even bigger disadvantage. Since a lot of people don't even know that they exist

      Only main difference with Apple is that Android (Like Samsung) is extremely well known too (Although I don't live in the usa). That difference is way smaller, than Nvidia and Amd, where Amd only caught up recently (after also years of negativity around it).
      Although in both cases its also to do with being used to the ecosystem (with phones bigger difference, although it used too), which people don't want to change. I remember as a kid the rant about the iPhone 5 (like worse than Android phones from 2 years before, with was a huge gap back then). My Cousin got in anyways, saying at least its better than the Iphone 4. He wanted to stick with the brand and ecosystem he was familiar with. I mean if people got Nvidia all there life and never had problems with it, they buy the new one (if they can afford) and get a better one than they have.

    I got an rx 6700xt and it's been like the best decision I made for my build, one thing that really bugs me though is how all the reviews go with the narative that AMD cards don't work with professional workloads. I do work with SOLIDWORKS, blender, premiere, and a whole suite of smaller programs and never had an issue.
    Edit: I mostly dabble with these programs to experiment as a maker and only engage in solidwork, solidcam, mastercam and a couple of electronic design softwares for work. My issue stems not from professionals not using them but from gamers being shunned away from them due to a seeming lack of compatibility which most often would not be an issue for someone who merely wants to experiment with creative outlets, which even then would be a minority of users.

      Define issue? For some of us, a blender render taking 30 minutes instead of 10 would be an issue. When your GPU is getting beaten by an older entry level Nvidia card in the benchmarks, that would be an issue (at least for most productivity users). Having vray refuse to open, or After Effects crash, these would also be issues. Getting artifacts when building certain lighting situations in Unreal, or being locked out of certain features, these are issues. The complaints about AMD and productivity are real and legitimate.
      Obviously it will depend on the user, and their workflow but even at the bare minimum, unnecessarily long render times that get beaten by older gen entry level hardware is not exactly something to be ok with.

Looking it up on PugentSystems though, they seem to imply certain visualizer features won't work with some gpus. Are you rendering those models in any particular way? If so is the renderer based on the GPU or CPU.
      Its highly likely your choice of GPU has little to no impact on the basic viewing and editing features found in Solid Works.

    • @APS1350
      @APS1350 Рік тому +1

      @@deuswulf6193 it's really dependant upon your settings but for the stuff I typically do I've noticed it tends to be more gpu bound, SOLIDWORKS is unfortunately still single threaded and my dad's old 6th gen laptop i7 works fine for even up to date SOLIDWORKS, my biggest issue is how much vram there is cause model files get quite large for me. The most gpu intensive task I believe would be assemblies where the gpu handles the rendering of, in some instances thousands of complex geometries and their interactions, should you use solidworks motion.
      I'm not trying to say that AMD is equal or better than Nvidia in terms of professional workloads support, and I do believe that Nvidia's GPUs, especially their professional GPUs are far more reliable. I just don't like how AMD's lacking professional drivers are pushed as a reason for the average person or gamer not to buy them because even if you do like to dabble in modeling or cad or rendering or video editing, a Radeon gpu will most likely be sufficient.

      That is not true. You must know that AMD was on the edge of destruction before they launched Zen architecture.
      AMD had to focus on a product to get them out of their bad financial position.
      Zen helped greatly and AMD is now moving towards to become a force to be reckoned with in Data Center while they are expanding towards becoming a software company.
      AMD cant compete with Nvidia because compared to Intel, Nvidia didnt play around when there was or wasnt competition out there for them.
      Intel were doing some new cpu generations with 4%-improvement with 4-cores before the release of Zen.
      AMD has to refocus and work on getting their Radeon brand a new start like Zen architecture.
      For now they are in a good position in terms of hardware development. Going towards „chiplets“ for GPU will cut down costs and will have „better yields ratio per wafer“ theoretically. In the meantime AMD is hopefully or have been working on a new architecture to go forward in GPU space like Zen has done for CPU‘s.

      @@eorzorian Although everything you said is not wrong, it fails to explain the utterly incompetent way AMD has handled its Radeon IP, especially in relation to nVidia. And of course, your comment doesn't really disprove my comment either. They prioritized their CPU performance over their GPU performance, despite the coming AI revolution, which they just handed over to nVidia. Why? Because to AMD CPUs are the main dish, and the GPU is a bit of a dessert. There was no way they were going to sacrifice the CPU on the altar of the GPU.
      More over, what I'm saying is backed up by first party reports coming from engineers at AMD. Radeon engineers have felt like second class citizens ever since the acquisition. This was one of the driving reasons that Radeon's chief GPU architect, Raja Koduri, left back in 2017 for Intel (which isn't exactly an organization that silicon valley engineers want to work at given other options).

Runs smoothly in every game, with the latest driver, a bit of undervolting and overclocking, has pretty much passed the RTX 3070 performance in most games (I'm using the strix model which has factory oc). And the UI is really friendly considering a minimum knowledge on GPU optimization.
    The stigma towards AMD comes much from the driver issues they had back there and the fact that Nvidia really has a strong marketing. Even knowing that most os AMD GPUs are pair to pair with Nvidia, just the "GeForce RTX" brand is enough to convince the avenger consumer.

      Volume will hit capacity at some point, but more importantly, they are a business. They want to make money. They want money to reinvest in themselves. They want to grow their R&D, their marketing, their sales, their other divisions.
      Asking for that price is asking for competitive prices at the expense of the company's future. Look what happened about 10 years ago? When they were selling so cheap, so competitive that they were unable to spend enough time and money in R&D and almost disappeared from the market.
      I mean... C'mon people. I also would LIKE all those top end cards to be much MUCH cheaper, but 799$ for a flagship product when the competitor, market leader, most powerful brainwasher goes for 1599$? If they didn't sell at 1600+ USD, it'd be one thing, but they do.

      I mean a little while ago you could find 4070ti’s going around for 700-800, slightly less powerful overall than the 7900xtx but better ray tracing performance, depends entirely on your purposes. But I don’t see why you would recommend the 6000 series unless you’re just doing free marketing for AMD, because right now you can get a stronger, cheaper card from nvidia in every performance bracket. The 3060ti matches the price of the 6700xt but performs better, the 3070 is significantly cheaper and performs slightly better than the 6800xt. The 6900xt offers a pretty unbeatable price to performance, but the 4070 offers very similar price to performance with a significant boost in performance for a moderate price increase. AMD isn’t really in a good position currently, because none of their products besides the 6900xt actually offer good price to performance in comparison to nvidia, at the moment

Its a useless gimmick to run RT unless you play on 1080p so that you only suffer performance from RT. But if you have a 2k or even worse a 4k monitor your performance is just horrible, especially with the 30 series cards. With the 40 series you get some playable frames but it's still extra you have to shell out for a feature that just tanks performance, while that extra money you put for RT can just get you a better GPu with AMD. But most importantly an overall better gaming experience. Also, you can't say "ooh drivers this and that" cause they both drop the same amount in a year, and both have issues of their own. Also 3060ti goes for 100-200 extra than a 6700xt and is kinda the same story for the rest of the cards. LOL where are you getting these prices from? Its absurd and a blatant lie. @@hectortriana4146 the prices are coming from amazon, if you're looking at used prices then it's a pointless conversation because in theory I can find an RTX 4090 for $600 used. Retail price, nvidia gpu's are in the same price range as AMD's offers for similar performance, and perform better (RT or not) except for in a couple instances such as the 6900xt, which does offer a really good price to performance ratio at the moment.
      Right now, on amazon, you can get the MSI GeForce RTX 3060 Ti LHR for $410. The 6700xt retails for an average of $410 on amazon, with the cheapest listing being $370 from PowerColor. If you want to say that $40 takes it out of the price range of the PowerColor 6700xt (which is your only $370 option besides the XFX speedster) then sure the 3060ti is more expensive, but it is not anywhere near $100-200 more. It's $40 in the worst case, and in reality they both retail for the exact same price which is $410. The 3060 also performs better, whether you're talking about RT or not, it benchmarks better in most titles.
      No one said RT was amazing tech, all I said was that the Nvidia options for last gen are cheaper and perform better; in the instances where the perform so similarly that it's indistinguishable, you also get the benefit of dedicated RT cores if you chose to go that route. No clue why you chose that as an opening as I literally only wrote one sentence briefly mentioning that RT cores are beneficial.
      No one ever mentioned drivers either. I never said anything to the effect of "gaming on AMD is bad/AMD drivers are bad/Nvidia doesn't have the same problems AMD has," I simply stated that the 6000 series from AMD doesn't make sense when you have cheaper options that perform better from nvidia at the moment. This isn't a lie, you can find the retail prices on amazon, the only person lying about prices is you when you claim that a 3060ti is $100-200 more, when in reality you can get both cards for the exact same price, with an option to get an AMD card for $40 less if you chose one of those two cards that I mentioned.
      Cheapest 3060 option: $410
      Cheapest 6700xt option: $370
      Cheapest 3070 option: $530 (average is $550, that's $150 less than the cheapest 6800xt option.)
      Cheapest 6800xt option: $699
      Cheapest 6900xt: $650. This is the only AMD option that's beating Nvidia's price and performance from last gens options. But again, you can get similar price to performance from the rtx 4070 which costs $800. It's $150 more but you do get significantly better performance.

    I changed my old Vega 56 with a 6800XT and I didnt have any problem, a side from some weird black screens. I wanted to go with the RTX 3080/3070ti route before but the price was way more (around 950$dll for a 3080) in my country (mexico). So I ended up getting a 6800XT for 700$ that was ahead of the 3070ti and had much more vram.

      I love how the Vega56 got ridiculed by the Nvidia sponsored Tech Press, but has gone on to not only beat the 980 (it's original competitor), but the 980Ti, 1070, 1070Ti, 1080 and even matches the 2060S / 1080Ti in many games today! At one point, they were selling Sapphire Vega56 models for £240 on Black Friday, and then YEARS LATER the 2070 would be costing a whopping £500!

      @@Markknightexeter Hilarious !
      It WHOOPS the 980, solidly batters the 980Ti (which cost 30% more!) and the 1070 (which cost 20% more), slaps the 1080 (which cost 50% more) and even beats the 1080Ti / 2060S in many games (the 1080Ti cost DOUBLE the price of Vega56 and the 2060S came years later and spent most of it's life costing 80% more than Vega56).
      Isn't that hilarious? How a card so old, and so shit upon by the nvidia sponsored fake tech press, just annihilates Nvidia cards 3 weight classes higher, and generations later?
      I thinks its hilarious! XD
      Imagine spending $400 on a 2060S and then, a year later, watching your card get bitchslapped by a 3 year old AMD card that cost just $200! So what do you do? As an Nvidia 2060S owner? You turn on RTX, in a vain attempt to justify getting the 2060S, and you sit there with 16fps in the latest games with shiny floors! While your neighbour is slapping noobs at 120fps in 1440p max settings on Warzone 2 with his Vega56! XD
      I love it.
