From a sound producer's view this IS THE OPPOSITE of loudness (the "loudness war", please google this). BUT: This is music. This is dynamic. This is great!!! It reaches your heart not only your feet on the dancefloor.

A song that changed my life, over and over again. Magic in my ears!
This song was sent from God. And, in this live version, Angels are just there. Still knocks me off of my emotional pedestal every time I hear the waterfall..ahhhh...
This life version is much better than official
The atmosphere suits Michael so very much. Thank you ❤
I wonder what made this the best version ever? I've never heard better! Listened to different versions but this one is the dogs balls!!! Stipe is a genius, and the band of course, love mills and buck 💙💜💙💜
ginny atchison and Berry!
ginny atchison I agree, there are better versions.
it's the solo at the end for me. it's not on any other version.
As it happens I prefer the Jools Holland version with BJ Cole. But that's just me.
malthuswasright That's good too agreed!☺
What a performance- so goddamn beautiful
I saw them live in highschool. My parents took me. They are huge fans too. I will never forget it.
God, I'm so in love with the air-drumming chick at the beginning.
Isn't she gorgeous? Wherever she is, I hope she's happy.
I know! Ughh it hurts! She hurts me!
@Commenter 10 1:20?
Nothing to touch this great band .... thwy were the medicine i needed for 30yrs of my life .... what a great ride.
Just listened to E Bow The Letter , for the First time, Man what a Beautiful , yet Haunting Song.
Now THIS is what live music is about. I go to another dimension when I listen to this version.
Why didn't he get enough credit, he was so amazing. Michael stipe, 4 chords and he broke my heart.
R.E.M gracias
I could never see REM live, and that mere thought hurt to the point I actually tried to forget about them for a while. But life is kind of cyclical, and here I am again. This band, Micheal's lyrics, will always be special to me.
The perfect marriage of lyrics, music, guitar and voice. I just adore everything about this song.
I can only imagine being Mike Mills playing the electronic piano while you have Michael Stipe just pouring his soul out in front of an audience with his back to you.
He was playing the Hammond organ 😁
I never check up on anyone else's comments, sooo, say whatever. I refract that.
Chris Kotra, thank you. Seriously.
Chris Kotra breath takeing
This song still gives me goosebumps.
This is the seminal version of this song. Masterpiece.
I love u R.E.M. u r the best band of the world ever.
John Ramirez
The best live version is when they performed it with Neil Young on stage!
The live version with Neil Young is great, but I still think this version is the best.
What's crazy is this video not having about one million more likes
A lyrical genius for the misfits. Love you r.e.m glad your music is still around x
Probably my favourite song from one of my all time favourite groups.
Wow - mesmerising amazing, just amazing.....
Great words, accurate.
If you like this one, go watch their performance at the Bridge School with Neil Young. Supreme!!!
Such a beautiful song ❤️
Reminds me of my first love , a massive REM fan .
I miss this band. I watched them live in my hometown Zagreb, Croatia. Michael Stipe was apologising for America's attack on Iraq like he had something to do with that.
REM were such a good band
Not only a good band. It was a piece of YOU.
amen. favorite band ever bar none.
goose bumps every time i hear it... thanks Peter for one of the most expressive guitar solos
Nothing relaxes me more after a very bizzy day than this song. I feel the stress slide of me when I hear this !!
He knows how to control his voices from silence to louder
A one of the great professional singers is Michael
How I miss this band- incredible
E um grande privilegio ouvir Banda Rem canta demais , com certeza vou rolar em breve meu bar em Franca SP Brasil.
From a sound producer's view this IS THE OPPOSITE of loudness (the "loudness war", please google this). BUT: This is music. This is dynamic. This is great!!! It reaches your heart not only your feet on the dancefloor.
I never realized how beautiful this song is... until 2 weeks ago when I saw this video.
From Brazil: you are the best! This Music is perfect, your smile is adorable
I can't help be moved to tears, everytime I hear this most beautiful track,Mr Stipe Kudos Sir
Mid-summer 2003 in Wiesbaden. My daughter, who attended the concert, had recently graduated from high school. Ceremony was held in the building to the rear of the stage.
ugh so beautiful. The song that reminds you that REM are arguably the most inspired rock group of the 80s, and maybe of all time. Magic forever.
Amazing...
Best version of this great song ever.
Sou apaixonado por essa música , ela toca minha alma.
This flower is scorched, this film is on
On a maddening loop, these clothes
These clothes don't fit us right
I'm to blame
It's all the same
It's all the same
You come to me with a bone in your hand
You come to me with your hair curled tight
You come to me with positions
You come to me with excuses
Ducked out in a row
You wear me out
You wear me out
We've been through fake-a-breakdown
Self-hurt, plastics, collections
Self-help, self-pain
EST, psychics, fuck all
I was central, I had control
I lost my head
I need this, I need this
A paperweight, junk garage
Wedding ring, a honey pot
Crazy, all the lovers have been tagged
A hotline, a wanted ad
It's crazy what you could've had
It's crazy what you could've had
It's crazy what you could've had
I need this, I need this
It's crazy what you could've had
Crazy what you could've had
I need it, I need this
It's crazy what you could've had
It's crazy what you could've had
I need this, I, I need this
It's crazy what you could've had
I need this, I need this
It's crazy what you could've had
Crazy what you could've had
I need this, I need this
Crazy what you could've had
Crazy what you could've had
its crazy what you could have had
@Cheetah Panther I feel you.
Hits really hard
thanks dude, god bless you for your music..
The Band that has interpreted music in its most artistic form in the sense of ART. Their music videos are timeless works of art.
love how powerful stipes singing was even live
"It's crazy what you could have had...I need this..." One of the greatest couplets in any song! Worthy of being chanted over and over and over....
so damn mesmerizing, a true blood letting upon the stage.
