Barry's married - Ben made the wedding cake and there's a video on the channel about it somewhere. He and his wife Hayley had a little boy just before Christmas. Not sure about Ben, although there used to be a running joke that he has a son named Tyrone that he traded for a Japanese knife? It still gets brought up occasionally so if you see comments about Ben being a father it's probably referring to that! James mentioned having a girlfriend in a video a couple of years ago but I've no idea if he's still with her, and I've got absolutely no clue about Mike ☺️

One of the reasons I started watching Sorted Food was not only for the food, but because I laughed so much watching them. This episode reminded me of those earlier days that got me into watching it. Thank you for making me laugh so much today!
I was so prepared to hate these guys; being too handsome, friendly AF, with shit-ton of friends, doing the dream job and being successful at the same time, but after binge watching so many episodes, I fuckin' love them. So entertaining and they seem so nice and the "just friends making a show" element is funny. I think I'm a fan.
Jamie is the only one that made a grilled cheese, Mike made a melt and Barry made a dessert.

A grilled cheese consists of three things: Bread, Butter, and Cheese. Aside from Jamie, every "grilled cheese" sandwich i see on here has other items added to it. The fact that this contest is called grilled cheese is nothing short of utter blasphemy. Let me start out by saying I have nothing against melts, I just hate their association with sandwiches that are not grilled cheeses. Adding cheese to your tuna sandwich? It's called a Tuna melt. Totally different. Want to add bacon and some pretentious bread crumbs with spinach? I don't know what the hell you'd call that but it's not a grilled cheese. Want to personalize your grilled cheese? Use a mix of different cheeses or use sourdough or french bread. But if you want to add some pulled pork and take a picture of it, make your contest entitled "melts" because that is not a fucking grilled cheese. I'm not a religious man nor am I anything close to a culinary expert. But as a bland god fearing asian male I am honestly the most passionate person when it comes to grilled cheese and mac & cheese. All of you foodies stay the hell away from our grilled cheeses and stop associating your sandwich melts with them. Yet again, it is utter blasphemy and it rocks me to the core of my pale being. I've seen post after post of peoples "grilled cheeses" all over reddit and it's been driving me insane. The moment i saw this subreddit this morning I finally snapped.

Mike had the best dish and Jamie had the best costume and Barry well he tried.
Jamie also had the only "grilled cheese" in the whole bit.
Barry made some weird dessert, Mike made an overcomplicated version of the challenge that barely qualifies, and Jamie made a proper item, but greasy, giant, filling and simple. Aka the series in a nutshell.
Mike made a cheese melt. Jamie made a grilled cheese.

Every now and then my fiancé says she wants a baby, when she mentions it i fill with dread thinking I'm not ready... then I remember Jamie is a father and funnily enough, it fills me with confidence.... if he can, anyone can.
ollierock arnold, just FYI, Jamie actually contributes a lot to the channel-he has a business degree and does the PR, gets the sponsers and organizes events. In the videos, he plays a goofy idiot but that's just part of his persona.
However, since you obviously care about being a good father, I'm sure you will be!

A good way to level up a classic grilled cheese is to add garlic salt and chilli flakes to the butter before you put it on the bread. Just saying.

So I'm about 3 months late watching this video but I'm happy about the inclusion of the Chicago Donut Day trivia in here and that Ben brought up that he spent it in Chicago. I remember that was a fun day because I got to hang out with Ben for most of that day. We ate many donuts and other desserts. It was by far one of my fondest memories.
Of course it's Mike, but I do wish he hadn't burnt the bread 😂

And with all the other ingredients, is it really even a grilled cheese? If so does that mean every toasted sandwich I make that has melted cheese in it is also a grilled cheese?
No it was not a grilled cheese it was a melt, Jamie told everyone what a grilled cheese was, seasonings can be added but if you toss in meat or any other substantial ingredient other than bread butter cheese it ceases to be a grilled cheese and is another type of sandwich.

Jamie is my spirit animal. OMG his grilled cheese looked so good! I never thought to toast the inside before assembling. I add mayo to mine before grilling. Butter both sides, add ham, mayo, and three melty cheeses which varies each time. Smoked gruyere, mozzerella, and a mild cheddar is my favorite combo.
I'm really into this look, Jamie. Like, not even being facetious.

Jamie nailed it in his intro, bread butter cheese, now you could use any type of any of those three things and it would still be a legitimate grilled cheese, Mike won with a melt a sandwich that is without question not a "grilled cheese"

I feel bad for Barry! I always think his food looks better. Jaimes is always too simple and Mikes is always safe flavor wise. I don’t get to taste the food but from what I see I think Barry always does the best challenge wise. (I vote for Barry lol)

There’s no poll, but I vote for Mike. My favorite grilled cheese, though, is buttered sourdough bread with cheddar, mustard, and prosciutto. Served with tomato soup (of course).
Prosciutto? Then you have made a ham and cheese sandwich and toasted/grilled it. That is not a grilled cheese sandwich.

well, there is now. And I'm pretty sure, Mike put it in there.
Another reason why Mike shouldn't have got the brownie point is that fact that his bread was toasted too much (we even heard the word "charcoal") - even Ben mentioned it. So many people always comment that Ben clearly favours Mike in battles and sadly I'm starting to agree...
Also, one brownie point should be taken away from Mike, because he punched Jamie's grilled cheese. That was a foul. And previously - if i remember correctly - there has been a disqualification in a battle (or at least, it was mentioned that there should be one, I'm not sure), because of a "foul".

Me too. Not mad at Sorted for it but they do frequently overlook the boundaries for a dish and were I judging I wouldn't let it fly.
Case in point: Let's say I go to a place and order grilled cheese. If Mike's item was placed in front of me, I might get annoyed; if I was after the simple cheesy flavor it certainly might not be what I want at that time. And if Barry's item was plopped in front of me I'd be outright pissed.
I do think that this kind of defeats the purpose of these battles, even though it always goes this way and it's entertaining to watch. None of us are going to walk away and say "Oh man, I really want a grilled cheese right now, let's try to make what Barry did." Some of us might go "or better yet, a melt sounds amazing!" and make Mike's dish, but if they're doing that, they're not making grilled cheese.
And I know this is a bit ranty so let me say, I'm sure they were good at being a melt and a dessert, I'm not questioning if the food was good or not, it's just that the purpose of naming a dish is so that it can be discussed, shared, remembered. I'm not picking on him but would any if you be fine if you asked for a grilled cheese and got Baz's item?

Only one is a classic Grilled Cheese... But oh my Gosh the costumes....you guys are so funny LMAO!!!
You know how you could level up a classic grilled cheese? Prepare the grilled cheese the same way Jamie did in the video, but after the first flip add shredded cheddar on top of the toasted side of the sandwich, (which is now facing up.) The residual heat will let them warm and adhere to the bread. After the second side is toasted, flip it again so there is a layer of cheese on the bottom against the skillet. Repeat adding shredded cheddar to the top of the sandwich. Flip the sandwich one last time after the cheese on the bottom has caramelized and caramelize the other side of the sandwich. This caramelized coating of cheese on the outside of the sandwich gives a bit of extra crispy crunch and a slightly different flavour profile. Best to do this in a non-stick pan on low heat so the cheese doesn't stick and burn while you are caramelizing it.

You did the last place dirty. You asked 3 things which are completely irrelevant to cooking, while someone was asked how fermented cabbage is made. I was really expecting you to ask someone else how pasta is made, or if soy sauce is salty, just to spite the poor guy in last place.

Oh well. Mike's sandwich looks like more. But I would vote for Barry, if there would be a poll. Sorry Mike, but I'm Swiss and Sauerkraut in a raclette Guyere sandwich does not work. And the German salami: a Swiss Cervelat is more Bollogna sausage style.

I'm German and I have to say, personally, Mike's sandwich made me cringe.
I imagine it must have tasted well enough... but all of that shouldn't go together... sure some of the individual components work well together... but all combined?

I have made the ultimate grilled cheese once. It consisted of 4 cheeses in the middle and parmesan cheese on the outside with the butter. Best grilled cheese ever.

I used to do a double cheese toasty under the grill that my sons loved. I lightly toasted two slices of bread on one side, buttered and generously spread one side with cream cheese, the other I covered with grated cheddar. After a little melting time under the grill I put the cream cheese side to the cheddar and toasted the dry sides under the grill one side at a time. When done I popped it on to a plate and sliced in half. Gone in seconds. The classic cheese toasty, always a winner.

mayo was a life changer for me. never using butter for my grilled cheese ever again. my favorite grilled cheese is an apple, marscarpone, candied pecans, honey and mozz on grilled rye. And I despise caroway with a passion. That's how good it is.

Swiss person here! This is how we do grilled cheese:
Butter white bread
Put in Pan brown on both sides
Add thick slices of gruyere
Add white wine
Add lid and wait until cheese is melted
Take lid off and let alcohol evaporate
En guete! (Bon appetit in swiss german)

Thirdly, it's kind of unfair that Jamie is so far ahead, considering he got some points by way of James on the camping trip.
But then he did make that Brisket by himself, for which he got 4 brownie points.
Mike's was not a grilled cheese it was a melt a completely different category of sandwich and Barry per usual made something not even remotely related to the challenge it's not even meeting the "grilled" part of it. Jamie is the only one that made a legitimate grilled cheese of any variety.

Vaibhav Gupta It was still a melt sandwich not a "grilled cheese" sandwich they had a specific type of sandwich for the challenge and there's only three ingredients that are allowed to be in that specific sandwich other than seasoning, and meat is not seasoning, his sandwich was not a "grilled cheese" it was a MELT. This was not a "grilled sandwich" with cheese challenge so Mike's was the wrong kind of sandwich for the challenge presented and barry per usual made something that wasn't grilled or a sandwich.

I dont get Ben's judging process; these challenges are supposed to be creative no? And Barry always take the recipe to the next level, in terms of creativity. But Ben seems to scorn his dishes regularly. Mike's is scandalous from what I'm reading in the comments. But I really think Barry usually deserves to win :)
