    I went from stage 4 to stage 3 by changing my diet. Eighty percent 80% plant based. I eat 4 x 7 meals a week (fish 2 times and poultry 1-3 times a week). My urine has cleared and less stress on my kidney.

      I am mostly plant-based, rarely eat poultry, no red meat or pork, no salt, no sugar, water and tea only, vasilate between Stage 4 and Stage 3, now on losartan as I have proteinuria for about 1 month ...so frustrated ...dropped back to Stage 4....4 years ago gfr was 17 and brought it back to gfr to 34 by my 1st nephrology appointment

    About a year ago I was diagnosed with stage 3B kidney disease, with an egfr of 34. A couple of days ago I found out that it has now progressed to stage 4 with an egfr of 24. That’s a very quick decline in only a year. It is really impacting my health and day to day living now. My chronic fatigue is off the charts, brain fog, protein in urine all the time now, I’m anaemic, I have nausea to the point of being physically sick, pitted swelling, kidney pain, chest pain, breathing problems and cramps in my legs and feet. I want to do all I can now to try and prevent it from declining any further 🙏

      At age 7, I was diagnosed with CKD and now I am 33 y/o with 3 kids. 7y/o, 5y/o and 11mos old, all are CS. Before my 3rd baby I have 35% GFR (stage 3b), before I got pregnant to my 3rd I did not manage to go to my doctor and not even take my maintenance, so almost 2 yrs no maintenance of CKD only my food supplement (Purtier Placenta Stem Cell).
      Last Wednesday, April 26, 2023 we go to the Doctor of my mother (Internal doctor) not to my nephro. Then the doctor told me that I have already 28% kidney function. My creatinine was 2.0 mg/dl. After knowing, I was very worried, thinking all the time, crying all the time. After a day I experienced fatigue, gastrointestinal and pooping again and again until today (April 30, 2023), maybe my kidney triggered by worrying and overthinking. and so I started to eat kidney-friendly foods.
      It hurts and it breaks my heart to know. I can't even imagined what will happen next. What about my kids? What about my own family? I don't want to experience hemodialysis..its a big NO. I am still young, my kids are very young. This is very challenging to me and to my husband. But we believe that GOD is good and He is our great Healer and great Provider. I believe in the Power of His Mighty Name. I believe He will help me overcome this disease and so are you. Just Trust and Believe and we will see and experience His Glory and Power. Nothing is impossible with GOD. In John 11, Jesus brings Lazarus back to life. He even heal the sicked and He provides food to the people. .wow! I believe He will also do that for us. And I claimed and I declared healing to myself. I know Whom I believe. The one and only creator of heaven and earth. He created me and I believe He can repair me. I live to worship Him and not to suffer this kind of disease. My body is the temple of the Holy Spirit and I, Baby Apple Tiw-ad, healed thru faith. To God be the glory. ❤🙌🤲🙏🏻💪🏻

      It sounds like you are taking the right approach - creating questions and asking your doctor. Are you currently working with a renal dietitian and has your doctor done labs to test for anemia? Anemia zaps your energy, and when it gets bad...it's difficult just to walk across the room. The good news is that Anemia can be managed (mine has been gone for about a year now). Many people can add more iron, B9, B12, C, and Zinc into their diet and reduce or even eliminate anemia. It's amazing to get all your energy back. If your doctor hasn't done so, ask them to check your labs to see if you may be suffering from anemia.

My husband didnt so it was easier to manage his diet. Apart from what to avoid its also important to consume the right foods. We are Asian, hardly take dairy. He drinks barley water ( we boil it at home) often as we believe it is a good kidney cleanser. Also cranberry juice. Eats cauliflower, red peppers and red grapes and berries which are good for CKD but for those with phosphate ,potassium issues some of these foods may need to be limited. From Jan he has only had Trace amounts of protein in his urine.
      He eats fish and/ or chicken twice a week( 2 meals out of 14 lunch and dinners) . On other days Its mainly veg protein like beans and tofu, Tempeh, lentils. Yes, 'Dr. Google' says I have approximately 2.5 years to live with stage 4 (eGFR 29). Such a decline from 44, 5 months ago. What a disappointment. Just one point from 3b. Can I possibly bet back to stage 3b? Everything one reads states kidney damage simply cannot be reversed. I'm so sad, to be honest, with tears in my eyes as I write this. I will continue to listen to your videos. BTW, no high blood pressure, here, but I have my age against me - at 77 - but I've always been so young and youthful for my age, born Danish with good ol' Viking genes. But I guess it still is what it is. My kidney decline began after my bout with breast cancer - perhaps the radiation, my doctor "wondered". Otherwise, very healthy.

      Please hang in there & don't give up! Your eGFR is better than my mother's who is at the same stage as you & I feel you can still improve it if you focus on your diet & lifestyle. Take care to avoid all the bad stuff & eat only kidney friendly foods. There are supplements which can help too. Some form of daily exercise can help further. Thank you. It all comes down to how I was raised. Being a military brat, we were taught to always be helpful, and if you see something wrong - say and do something. When I was diagnosed as saw how scary and unhelpful it was for patients, i had to do something. Above my desk I have the words to the Apple "Think Different" voiceover and it constantly reminds me why I am doing this: Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.

    I was just dx’ed at stage 4 Ckd a few weeks ago with them working at 29%. I just don’t understand why it took so long to get that diagnosis. I started having symptoms 4 years ago. The main one being swollen ankles. My doc never did any testing to find out what was causing it. I’m kinda pissed at that. My doc don’t seem to concerned about it. She’s more worried about getting my bp under control. It went from being high to being low with the diastolic reading being a 44. Wow, I just saw in the video about a change in taste. I’ve had that for the past 10 yrs and my doc couldn’t figure out why. I don’t think mine is metallic tho, to me it’s more garlicky but has changed over the years. I’ve also had a decreased appetite. Went from 180lbs to 110 without even trying. And again my doc didn’t try to figure out why. I did get a new pcp at the end of last year and she’s the one that found my problem. No treatment plan has been mentioned yet.

      @@purifidhini9993 I am relatively healthy and I didn’t have any existing comorbidities until recently. Staying physically fit with a low body fat percentage and eating a balanced diet contributed to the delay. I now have several issues related to progression, but I would say having an active lifestyle is key. My father had the same kidney transplant for 35 years (1985-2020) due to a consistent, active lifestyle which he imparted to me. Stage 4 has its challenges and makes life difficult at times but we have to push ourselves to be as healthy as possible to combat this disease. I hope this help.

      Zaac - What you are going through is completely normal. Most doctors are not up to speed with the latest treatment strategies and research. Then there is the whole mess of the corporatization of dialysis delivery. But let's stick with what you can do something about - and that is your doctors lack of updated information. YOU are your best advocate and the best thing you can do to help yourself (and your doctor in treating you) is to educate yourself about CKD and treatment strategies. Now this can be challenging - the internet is full of all sorts of incorrect info as well as conflicting research. You'll find a few (not a lot) of channels here on UA-cam with all sorts of advice. Some are from people who do not have CKD and they are pushing you to buy their program or other "cures". Others are nurse, doctors, or researchers talking often of the traditional treatments/symptoms/causes. Very few are actual CKD patients getting better week after week. That last one is where my channel falls - I'm NOT a doctor, I can prescribe treatment, but I can show you that diet and lifestyle changes can make an impact. I can help you to know what questions to ask your doctors, to know why you need a dietitian (and you do), to give you some hope that the future doesn't have to be dialysis, transplant, or death. In a perfect world we'd all live next door to the Mayo Clinic or UC San Diego Health and get the latest treatment for CKD - but we don't. We mostly live near old school-educated doctors who push dialysis, who wait until our GFR is really low to tell us we have a problem, who rob us of the chance to use diet and lifestyle changes to try and slow down, stop, or reverse some of our lost kidney function. Alright, enough of me up on my soap box, but it's important to understand there ARE other treatment strategies and that for some people they are LIFE CHANGING. I got lucky, my primary doctor constantly educates himself on the latest treatment strategies - he follows the Mayo Clinic and UC San Diego Health, he believes in Conservative Management (that's the strategy that has saved my life from dialysis). My point is that education is key to this and if your doctors don't have it (which is SO common), YOU can get it for yourself and push them. So first is find the underlying cause and manage it - stop further damage. Next, manage your blood pressure and blood sugar to keep those under control. Then remove things that can harm your kidneys - stop smoking, dont take things like Ibuprofen, etc. Then look at your diet - this is a HUGE part and it is something fully in your control. Diet is so important that the majority of my videos are about diet. I know this sounds so overwhelming - but it isn't. I was given 45 days to live without dialysis almost 1 year ago to the day. It seemed overwhelming and impossible. Today I am doing amazingly great - so much energy, not one single symptom, and loving life. Looking back it was so easy. Yeah, there were hard times, driving by McDonalds and not going in took me months to get past. Giving out candy for Halloween and not downing a dozen packs of Reeces cups....ugh. But I did it and I did it for my future. Now I can walk into a restaurant without worry and order a meal without panicking it'll send me to the ER. I even cook my own meals - and I'm talking real cooking, not just reheating in the microwave. All of this was only possible because of the power of information. My health care team has it, I constantly seek to gain more of it, and I ask so many questions when they give me information. Wow - this is the longest response I've ever written on UA-cam, I need to wrap this up. I hope this was motivating - trust me, it's not as bad as things seem. Go back and check out my first videos...my goodness, I look so sad, weak, sickly, and frail. Then check out my latest video - same guy, only about 8 months later. You can do it - and feel free to reach out to ask questions. You have me and our entire Kidney Community here to help. Good luck!!

      Hi James, what is the Mayo Clinic exactly? Is it some sort of hospital where they have a cure for CKD?

    • @DADVICETV
      @DADVICETV  4 роки тому +1

      @@gabriellalove29 The Mayo Clinic is a very well known and advanced organization that is one of the leaders in care for a wide range of illnesses. They are on top of the latest research and are known for their excellence. They do not have a cure, no one does, but they do strongly promote Conservative Management as a treatment strategy for CKD. They don't see each CKD patient as a future dialysis patient - they instead focus on what can be done to delay or avoid the need for dialysis. Similarly, UC San Diego Health is another leader in kidney disease treatment here in the U.S. (and they share their info globally like the Mayo Clinic). While 2 different organizations, they both are at the top of kidney disease treatment and research here in the U.S. Doctors who follow them will provide (in my opinion) the best treatment strategy for those who suffer with CKD. You can learn more about the Mayo Clinic at www.mayoclinic.org/

      ap0lmc Remember, my first doctor told me I had “zero chance” of getting better and that I’d be dead within 45 days without dialysis. That was almost 1.5 years ago. No dialysis, no death, and today I am doing great and have tons of energy and no right diet and health care team can make all the difference! Find a doctor who will help you get better, not just focus on making you another statistic for their list of failures.

    My kidney specialist told me that absolutely nothing reverses kidney disease, I’m stage 4. They won’t send me to a nutritionist or dietitian. Finding conflicting information on the internet, what to do? Can it really improve GFR?

    • @DADVICETV
      @DADVICETV  3 місяці тому

      Reducing protein in your urine, managing your blood pressure, staying active, and eating a heart-healthy diet have all been proven to slow the progression of CKD. While you can't cure it, there are things you can do to slow it down and sometimes even reduce the burden you place on your kidneys, allowing them to better keep up with you. Any doctor that wont send you to a dietitian should be fired - you are paying them to HELP you, fire them if they are not doing that and get a better doctor. Your life matters and it sounds like your doctor doesn't agree.

      UA-cam does have auto generated subtitles in English, thought they sometimes have trouble with the medical terms. Let me see if I can find someone who can speak Spanish near me - I could then record them translating and make Spanish language versions. I have a lot of big groups wanting to work with me on helping educate people about diet and they may have some Spanish employees who can help.

I had my nuclear stress test done july 1st and I had all the side effects and then some it was pretty bad. I had to drink some mello yello the first time that I had had a drink since January they said I needed caffeine that would help me get better. The upside is that I passed the test. The kidneys can recover from some situations, known as an AKI, but the damage from CKD is permanent. Managing your blood pressure, eating a low sodium heart, healthy diet, staying active, avoiding smoking, etc. are things that you can do to help slow the progression and possibly reduce some of the stress on your kidneys. I highly highly highly recommend working with the dietitian, and one should be provided at your dialysis center. Once a person starts dialysis, they most likely will remain on dialysis unless they get a transplant.

      The first thing is to visit your doctor and have them do test. They will do both blood and urine test to determine if you have any kidney issues. Those test results are your map to your diet (which is one part of improving your overall health). You will also want to find the underlying cause (if you have kidney issues) so that you can manage that to prevent further damage. But all of this starts with confirming you have kidney issues.
