1981 I think she was 28 or 29 ? Stunning , that voice is so distinct, I love that she continued in jazz . The band is hot but she is still eye candy aswell .luv ya Chaka Khan.😊
I am a white man born in west Virginia, a returning soldier from over across the pond, before that and still to this day this type music makes my soul come alive. I grew up on this magical music for thre soul, it rattles my heart and my soul. Chaka Khan is just one of many female vocalists that can make me shine with so much pride, appreciation and gratitude towards our black soul singers. My mother and Grandmother did back vocals for George Benson and Wes Montgomery. This new wave of stuff today has lived out it's expiration date because it was in a can, Chaka Khan never canned her magic anf therefore will cintinue on as the reighing queen of our world. Thank you Ms. Khan!!!!!!1
Spot on! I was lucky to see her twice in concert in the 80's. One of those times I was directly in front of her in a very small venue on South Street in Philly and literally close enough to touch her. She played 2 shows that night. After the first show, the horn section (3 members of her band) were smoking right outside the club. Me and my date got to talking to them and they said if we walked back in the club with them, we could stay for the second show for free. It didn't quite work out though as we were asked to leave when we couldn't prove having tickets just minutes before the start of that 2nd show.
This is from Tom Snyder's late night talk show in the early 80's on NBC. Chaka also performed "We Can Work It Out" and did a very cute interview with the host.
Anthony Jackson, playing a Music Man Sting Ray...wow, that's a rare sight. Makes it sound just like Anthony Jackson. He's brilliant, always has been, on every bass he's ever played.
So incredible, to watch her sing the lead, melody, hook, bridge and her back up parts live (and of course, her vocal crescendo at the end). Simply The Best for so many reasons.
@TheSanctifiedSoldier I was always drawn to Chaka and Tina. And that was also one of the reasons. They both have an absolutely gorgeous mouth with beautiful teeth. They both have that mouth trademark along with both of them having huge powerful voices.
Happy birthday to songstress Chaka khan, a wonderfully gifted Soul singer, winner of 10 Grammys, never looked back since joining the band Rufus aged 18, four decades later still wooing us
There's that (only released) 30 min gig footage they did in California for a TV piece....I wonder if was on the same day cos they're all wearing the same clothes? Probably the best post-Rufus band she put together....what a roll-call of greats. I loved Chaka in this period cos she still didn't realise how good she was.
I did a internship with Earthsong Entertainment Chaka Khan record label in the late 90s I remember she drank lots of water at room temperature Keep lipstick on her and yes she toothbrushes were always everywhere

What Cha' Gonna Do For Me is actually Chaka's most favorite album she recorded.

Just pack this one up for the archives to make sure others can see this 100 years from now.
She hasnt changed in all these years. Powerful soulful woman.
Damn, wonderful and sad (RIP) seeing M. Brecker back in his sideman days. Nice.
Every time I hear Anthony Jackson I feel like such a slacker.
Haha I think that’s true for a lot of people
I'm guilty as charged 🙌🏿

Chaka never realized how good she was...even til this day

I wish they could've showed the drummer. This tune has a great drum line!
Pretty sure it's drummer Steve Ferrone, from The Average White Band, as is Hamish Stuart- also onstage here.

I don't know why someone would hire heavy-hitters like Mike and Randy Brecker for something as safe and commercial as this.
this is the year when chaka started putting on weight
What a beautiful set of teeth she has.i heard that she collects toothbrushes as a hobby.
I did a internship with Earthsong Entertainment Chaka Khan record label in the late 90s
I remember she drank lots of water at room temperature
Keep lipstick on her and yes she toothbrushes were always everywhere
