I love your story in Kilimanjaro even though you did not have the outcome wished, it takes a lot to climb this mountain and every new camp reached is already a great achievement. I almost died from drugs too. I remember I saw god and I just understood that he was saying he saved my life without saying a single word even though I did not believe in god back then. I just felt something beyond good, peaceful, and joyous. I took so much drugs and drank less than ~1/10 cup of water inside a closed living room with cigarette smokes and I passed out. I totally forgot what happened just before I passed out and while I was passed out.
God was watching over you that day. God bless.
Great to see you're determined to go back one day. I went in 2006 and failed on the summit night. Took me 11 years before I was able to return in 2017 to successfully summit. (Do the Lemosho route next time)
You are very lucky my friend that was altitude sickness and it is the most difficult to beat the mountain sickness without doing acclimatize, MARANGU ROUTE is one of the challenging route because you don’t have time to acclimatize but it is the best route because of the hurts. Next time when you came back know that the preparation of of the summit start from day one polepole(slowlslowly) to give your body time to adapt with the altitude. Altitudes sickness always start to show up at 4000m but sometimes is start early but the best things to do is to keep on drinking water and stay positive. You’re the best and lucky person welcome back to Tanzania/welcome to Kilimanjaro.

Thanks for sharing. I'm thinking about going to Kilimanjaro. The question of not being able to climb is certainly a fear. But I've already thought about different options if I can't. I'm not used to heights. I live in a place that is like ... 30 meters above sea level. oh and the 23:18 minute is ... brilliant!

On a serious note, a decent operator would have had a stretcher, also bottled oxygen would have been available. Your blood saturation is taken in the morning and evening, so to be delusion etc, hypoxia as it’s called, your blood saturation would have been below 70mlg, and the guide would have evacuated you off the mountain much earlier. 🤔.
I know this is a year late, but the more I've been researching the more I've realized that you're completely correct. We were put in more danger than necessary and it should have been handled VERY differently. So, to anyone thinking of summiting ANY mount with a guide: DO. YOUR. RESEARCH. !!!

I’m so happy you survived!! I don’t have any cool facts but I was on a week long camping/canoeing trip in the middle of nowhere in Vermont away from cell service and stuff. I ended up almost dying! I have a medical condition that is undiagnosed, my throat sometimes closes as if I’m having an allergic reaction even when there’s no allergens in sight but it gets worse when there’s smoke or if it’s the fall. Anyway, the first three days of the trip I got sun poisoning in my legs which sucked but whatever, I also fainted because I refused to drink water and then the same day I fainted some lady burned chemically treated wood on the fire and I started struggling for air. I ended up getting evacuated on the last night of the trip. I turned out fine obviously since I’m telling this story but yeah! I stopped breathing and almost died so i mean we have near death in common. 😬

As an explanation since I forgot to go into it: the undiagnosed thing is a spasm in my throat and every time I breathe in my throat closes briefly. I don’t notice it but at least once a year it decides to just not open back up. And like I said before smoke makes it worse (obviously) but also the fall season makes it worse and any sort of muggy damp weather can trigger it. When it happens I have to go to the hospital and get epinephrine and oxygen through this machine thingy that makes the medicines vapors.

Sunburn, dehydration, everything adds up. Had you been drinking any alcohol in the days leading up to the hike? Hope your next trip is better.
Its called Altitude sickness. Once the sickness hits you, you become completely disoriented and nauseated. Is it deadly? For sure, I am glad they got you down because there have been many cases where people have died not listening to their body. I am sure you will succeed in your second attempt :)

I was born with an extra kidney which is an extremely rare condition, mine was really rare because the 2 arteries connecting them needed to be untied cause it cause me pain for over 2 years.I ended up getting 2 surgeries and I would love to watch your videos in the hospital!!! Ok so here’s my story: so basically I started hanging with this other friend group and all the people in my current friend group got mad because I wasn’t being antisocial (or wateva) like they were and so this girl who is in my current friend group (let’s call her lola). she put a yolo thing on her story so I swiped up and asked “thoughts on: my name” (idk why) and then she said that I was being really rude to her and was just not being nice ( now note that I haven’t talked to her for like 3 years cuz we haven’t been in the same class for a long time) and so I swiped up on that and I asked Lola why she said that because I was nothing but nice to her and she said that I was being cliquey with my friend who I haven’t talked to for what felt like forever (let’s call her sarah) and so she was going off on me about how I was not being a great friend and that I shouldn’t associate myself with the people Sarah hangs out with because they are toxic. I didn’t have the guts to tell Lola off so I just left her on open and told Sarah about this and so we talked about it and I feel like that brought us closer together (so suck it Lola) so yeah that’s my story.

Altitude sickness is serious stuff, whether on Everest or considerably lower. When it hits you, you need to pay attention.

I was in Italy and the bathroom door would lock so I played with it for a while and GOT IT TO LOCK! Yay! Right? WRONG! I then proceeded to have 13 panic attacks in the span of 2 hours while my mom spoke some very poor Italian too this kind old Italian man who smashed the door with a hammer with no warning. maybe it would be better if instead of doing so much safaris etc your group would have more time to trek around and acclimatize, then you probably wouldn't get this altitude sickness. and yes you can easily die from it so its not a joke. also its amazing how nobody warned you about severe sun burns you can get in mountains. so no go without sunscreen and face coverage, glasses.
