    Extremely helpful video. This video saved my life! One thing for those that never mess with radiators is to fill the radiator at the upper hose with approximately 3 gallons of 50/50.

    I know this post is old but for anyone who runs into the problem of having the condenser bolt strip out (I also had this happen just yesterday) you can unbolt it from the other end of the bracket by taking out the two t20 torx screws. They are hard to get at but it's easier that vacuuming out the freaon. Once they are out you can remove the radiator and worry about getting the stripped bolts out of the radiator with it out of the truck. (mine was so rusted i had to snap the bolt off and then replace it.)

    Great video Brian, thanks a ton, even though this job took way more time than I thought, because of lack of special tools, I managed with my big hands and sausage fingers to get the job done. Short tip for anyone; (always clean your bolts and screws with a wire wheel as it makes them easier to thread in those difficult areas on the buttoning back up. I do agree with Delora Hall's comment about the engineers never working on the stuff they designed. I only had to pull my rad because the tab on the drain plug was broken and needed to be replaced. Who is the fricking genius that thought it should be made out of plastic?

    Great tutorial. I have a new to me 2003 Durango 4.7L SLT 4x4 which is the same exact setup as this that I picked up last week and it had a hole in the condenser. Picked one up at the junk yard for $17 and when I took the old one off of mine, I noticed the front of the radiator was dented in the middle to the point of preventing the electric fan in the back from turning (but I have cold A/C now!). Had I have seen this video before now, I would have went back and got the radiator with the fan attached from the condenser donor Durango, which with your videos help, I will be doing when the junk yard gets another donor vehicle. Thank you so much for telling the size of every nut and bolt so I now know exactly what tools I need to take when I do this job!!! AWESOME! Please make more Durango videos for this model, there are very few as informative as this one on UA-cam!

    Great video Brian! Well lit and very well explained throughout. I am currently working on my '01 Dak and this helped me tremendously just watching how you do it versus me having to figure it out myself. Your Durango and my Dakota pretty close to being identical and I will be replacing hoses, thermostat, fan clutch and my condenser fan. Your video practically showed me how to do all that and in locating the bolts once I start the repairs. Thanks for sharing!!

    Great video straight to the point. But I think this is one of those jobs, I could easily take it all apart but would forget how to put it back together and end up with several leftover pieces :) Not to mention, I replaced my PCM yesterday and spent about 15 mins trying to take the air intake off before realizing it was a hex bolt (?) at the bottom. And I don't have the right tools for it. Left it on, but just was a PITA not having more room to work with. Guess I'll just suck it up and pay the mechanic to do it.

    Thanks for the video. Doesn't look quite as bad of a job to do as I thought it might be. Unfortunately mine seems to be leaking from the driver side and I haven't been able to determine if it's perhaps a crack in the reservoir or if it's the radiator itself. It's in the 20's outside right now and no garage to work out of so not exactly the most fun time to try and figure it out, muchless do the replacement. I'll have to look through service records and see if the water pump needs changing out too. Really wish this thing would've acted up two months ago before it was freezing outside. Thanks again!

    THANK YOU. Man I’ve done everything on vehicles but like an idiot, I never thought to remove the upper crossmember/support. Caused a leak in my condenser trying to finagle the radiator out.

    Update; with history.
    My issues, ovr heating, Turning Heater on full hot medium fan would bring temp down.
    Truck had set a majority of her life.
    I No visible leaks. I had not driven for long periods.
    I figured "throw the tool chest at her.
    Pump/ thermo/ all hoses new fluid.
    Post all that, she still overheated but not as much.
    So by now I'm fearing possible Head gasket.
    I figured a professional radiator flush would be worth a try. Fluid looked good No crust build up visible inside or out. Taking out was easier With the above vid. :)))))
    I found an ole guy who has been strictly the radiator guy for years.
    He showed me his knowledge learned test.
    He tilted rad "Top inlet higher" and placed garden hose in rad fill hole, place hand on lower and said to time how long it takes to shoot water out the higher inlet. within seconds water gushed out.
    He said my rad was 85% blocked.
    He also said the rigor he would use to "try" to clean that serious a clogged unit would blow the plastic construction pieces off.
    He also told me "if I'm planning on keeping her I should stay away from the cheap Amazon stuff.
    SO Napa has one on order:))))

    how do you tell its clogged idk if i need a whole new one or if its just clogged I haven't had to fill it up in awhile the temperature inside on the gage dont move either but when i remove the cap when cold it over flows

    I need to rethred the top transmission line that goes into the radiator. What size tapping nut do I use. Is it the 5/8 -18 ? Im not sure. Can you help me with this question. I just helped my friend with replacing his radiator. The last time I helped him it was the bottom line and I don't remember what tap I used and we knew that radiator may not last long.

    Can you disconnect the left side fan shroud to reach lower transmission cooler line without taking bolts out? I cannot reach the transmission line with the fan shroud intact.

    Sounds like those blind bolts holding the radiator are critical to whether you have to deal with opening the air conditioning freon lines, removing and replacing freon. For me, that would decide if I do it or have a shop do it.

    The lower transmission line isn't fitting back in very well. I don't want to force it and damage it so is there a trick to this?

    Instead of removing condenser lines, just take off the bumper so you can grip square nuts x4 that you mentioned turn with bolt while using your mountain wrench.

      Oh nowhere near the worst radiator I’ve done. Lol. I got one to do and this looks ok really. I’ve had them on some cars rip the whole front end out literally to hit it.

      Try an alternator on a Kia Sedona, the whole front and radiator have to come out to get it it.

    The bottom bolts holding my radiator to the condenser are freely spinning, too. Idk the first thing about discharging the AC system etc. Do I have any other options besides removing the condenser along with the radiator?

      Jason Bennett yeah you can wedge that blind spinner from rear side. Worst case scenario drill in old radiator and pop a screwdriver in. Best case you get something to wedge it. Tight work but possible.

      I know this is an old post but there are two t20 torx screws that hold the bracket onto the condenser. Take then out and you can worry about getting the bracket off once you get the radiator out

    PROTIP: remove the bumper first. Its held on by 8 18mm bolts that are easy to get to, takes 5 minutes to remove, and once it's out of the way, makes everything else much easier.
    Also, just unbolt the electric fan from the radiator before pulling out the rad. It's just 3 10mm bolts that are easy to get to, and then you dont have to worry about the wires. Also makes removing transmission cooler lines easier.

      That's good advise I with I took my bumper off before I did this job. But by the time I thought about it I was almost done. Also the electric fan it only connected by one wire, pretty simple to unplug, and if it goes anything like mine went I had to take visegrips to hold the bottom nut to get the fan bolts out because it was just spinning without them

    Hi I hope you can help me, I have a Durango 2002 by mistake I put water instead of antifreeze, later I saw engine oil in the antifreeze tank. The oil is not visible in the radiator cap or antifreeze in the oil only in the coolant tank. What can be then? Have already changed the large radiator and still with the same problem, greetings

      I'll start by saying adding water to the coin is perfectly OK. You're supposed to have a 50-50 mix of coolant and water. It's possible that someone accidentally poured oil in the coolant overflow bottle. But if the oil is in the radiator then the oil cooler that's built into the radiator may have broken. Causing the oil and coolant to mix. And worst-case Scenario a head gasket has blown.

      Thank you very much for replying, in another video of another car model I saw that the oil cooler broke and it looked just like mine, I feel that it is, unfortunately I do not know any honest mechanic in my city, my truck has three " Radiators "the small would be the oil cooler?

      Oil in water. Yuck. Yeah in the case of radiator could be the cooling lines inside. Hopefully only other place to mix is head gasket. No fun there.

    Hi, sorry if this is a really stupid question, but ... would a radiator for a 98 Durango fit into a 2000 Durango? So far all the local yards haven't located a used one out of a 2000, but had one from a 98.

      I can answer that. I know this is old but for others looking. 1998-2003 are same radiator. In 2004 radiator changed. Therefore any year will fit any year. Always shoot for the newest year the yard has. I like to also assess condition and care of vehicles. I really hate to use used radiators in anything but I get it when it comes to spend $100 or spend $15 from a yard if money’s tight.

    Quick question: I hit a deer last week just spent last bit of my money getting a new radiator since it busted the one in my Durango, can I take the a/c condenser out for now since it too is unusable?

    Just got done doing the one of my 2000 Dodge Dakota pain in the ass took me 5 hours cost me about 280 bucks because the radiator fluid was like $11 each 50/50 mixed, and I need it like 5 of them radiator was 180 bucks from AutoZone lower radiator hose was 15 bucks one of the reasons it took me so long is half the bolts broke or were stripped and I had to cut them off with a Sawzall living in Florida the salt air does wonders to the bolts nuts and washers AutoZone says the radiator has a lifetime warranty so we'll see how hopefully I won't have to take it out again i put antiseize compound on all the new bolts and ones I reused.

      You don’t need 5 gallons in there. Lol. Holds like 3ish from empty and you’re not empty.
      Hope you return some coolant.
      Here’s best tip for next time. just get 2 full strength NOT 50/50 but concentrate, I believe like $14 and 2 gallon of distilled water Walmart for 80 cents. Use 1 gal full strength to 1 water. Be about half of each. At end fill the 1/2 full one with the rest water and mark 50/50 on it and store for top up or next job. That’s all 50/50 is that coolant and distilled water mixed. Be sure you get distilled (purple like cap at Walmart above the blue cap). If just doing radiator you may get away with 1 gallon coolant and 2 water doing 1 of each and any top up with distilled water still close to 50/50 anyway.
      Another tip order radiator online for 80 shipped and save another $100 there.
      In other words the job can be done for $100 saving $180 from what you say. I know you did it already but for future or for others. Ordering online you can probably have the radiator in 1-3 days unless rural. I use amazon prime and get them in same or 1 day often free delivery.

    This was a nightmare,,,,I had about 1/2 doz extra bolts to take out,,,my durango has an oil cooler too so you understand ,,Iended up having to take the bumper off to get to the bolts,,I`m gonna get rid of all this new shit,,,,and stick with my "56 Chevy" wagon ,,,,something i can work on

    I usually never leave comments on videos but I'm at a point where I need to express this! Stop spending so much time explaining what tool you're using and how it's going to be used it's really simple does a 10 millimeter wrench are the bolts you're going to take off with it here is a 13 millimeter wrench here are the bolts you take off with it dude just pause your video do that part and then show us what happened you waste so much time and draw so many people away from your video when you sit there and unnecessarily explain what you're doing
