I am a single mother of 4 and thanks to your video and God's grace and strength I was able to replace my radiator myself and not have to pay someone 500+ dollars. So again thank you for posting this video

God isn't helping her brain and willingness to work is. If there is a god he would snap his fingers for mundane tasks like fixing a radiator. Or make things Bruce Willis Unbreakable. Except they let him drown wich pissed us off big time. Not cool M. Night shamalong a ding dong!!! Or god would just let us think and teleport. Yeah sure there's a G-O double Dizzag

Got a price from my mechanic for $ 560.00 to replace my radiator.
With the help of your video I was able to replace my radiator, cap and coolant for $ 160.00! Saved $ 400.00!!
I am reasonably mechanical and it took me about 2 hours from start to finish.
Made my week! Thanks for a great video.

Bill Reinhart I bought a radiator on eBay at $43.00 and have no problem with it. And with no labor it is less than a $50 radiator install in this case my time is money saved.

10:06. Removing that crossmember ( the bar that the hood lock/latch assembly is connected to via around the center of it) would have made this soo much easier and it's easy to remove that crossmember out of the way.

  • @stephenshoihet2590
    @stephenshoihet2590 6 років тому +4

As others have noted, it's easier if you just remove the top xmember (4 bolts) and if you pull the fans out (only takes a few seconds to unclip the electrical connector), you have more working room and don't even have to get under the vehicle to undo the lower hose. Thanks for the video, it was very helpful; took me a bit less than 90 mins start to finish.

Exactly Stephen. I've done it a few times on my wife's van. You gotta hold the AC condenser down while pulling up on each side of the radiator to dislodge it from their respective holes.

Yeah, I think I can do this! That's what I needed to see to boost my confidence. The van is the same. You and I are like Bookends right down to the broken belt loop from pulling up our pants! Lol Seriously, I appreciate your work putting this out here for those of us who don't even qualify as a shade tree mechanic. The video really prepares me for the job. I've put in radiator "stopleak" several times so I'm going to flush out the system first. I'm hoping thar removes any of that silver or copper glitter that could stop up water jackets in the engine. I'm going to also replace the thermostat, radiator cap and overflow hose. I'll inspect the overflow tank as it sure seems to loose coolant there as well. Also, thanks to the comments of your viewers about removing the top support bracket.

Awesome! Yes this video helps a lot. I just replaced the water pump and had to press in a new hose nipple on water pump housing. No fun, but I sprung a bad leak. wasn't water pump. Turned out to be a broken hose nipple. Im just thinking about replacing the radiator even tho it isn't leaking. I thought your van had transmission hoses attached to it? Im very glad it doesn't. Makes removal and install easier. UA-cam videos have saved me time and time again :D

I have a Dodge Grand Caravan 3.3L 2007 with 180K km, and the coolant started to leak a bit, I have seen some small wet spots on on the asphalt the driver side in a summer sometimes under the radiator. I am just wondering if this a radiator? I purchased the coolant leak stop, but it did not help.I am just wondering if I should add another coolant leak stop fluid into the radiator or just replace one? Merry Christmas!

Thanks for great vid and heads up what to expect. If all elese fails read the instructions (chuckle)
Seems to be a popular repair for same exact reason/place. Complain to dodge. maybe a recall radiator is needed.(doubt it would happen) Our 01' caravan only has 92k mls is well maintained. I'd expect more.from it. shouldn't have to replace this part for such short mlg .
Suggest buying some power/air tools for if you're going to continue doing extensive repairs.
    Good job!

I liked the video, and I do like it when you fast forward on the mundane... I would have liked to see if you could change the water pump easier if the radiator was out. 2. Why didn't you check to see if you had any leaks prior to installing the plastic.
    3. Why didn't you burp the system first.
    Thanks.

'white smoke' indicates water is entering the combustion at some point, i.e. breached head gasket, cracked head or cracked block. or, you could be someohow burning brake fluid, did that on a Dodge van once, main seal on brake unit went out and it was sucking fluid into the intake of the engine.

  • @donaldshelton

You should consider including in your title that you're working on a 3.3L or V-6, or Grand Caravan. Lots of us looking for info on the 4-cyl with the 2.4L engine and it's very time consuming when this information is not included.

You did a good job of explaining what you did, but let us see exactly what you were seeing. We watched you instead of the little details which could end in failure for most of us newbies. Specifically mating the radiator with the ac condenser. We watched you struggle, but we did not see why you were struggling.

so yeah the radiator in this thing is easy as 3.14 to change however i had the same leak it sounds like and i put stop leak in it and it did the job, you should start with the 3 to 6 dollar fix opposed to the 130

Eric Hart you get what you pay for.. that 3 dollar fix can lead to you having to replace not only your radiator but your heater core too
