What do you recommend for coccidiosis prevention? I have an 11 week old Nubian that was on Deccox powder when I purchased her. I kept that in her milk but she soon developed diarrhea and a fecal showed high coccidia. So I am coming off a vet prescribed Corrid liquid treatment but wanted to know what you use and for how long as preventative? How much baking soda do you put in a bottle. I plan to continue the bottles for a few more weeks then go to one bottle just to keep her social as she is intended as a pet.
Thanks for the very informative vids. We've had a precious little doe brought to us. She is very tiny. Born on Valentine's Day this year. (2021). She has a hoof that is deformed (vet check today) and tho it doesn't seem to impede her ability to get around, we are concerned about her in the "day to day" of life as well as the "long haul". She is a Nigerian Dwarf. Any comments would be appreciated. Really enjoy your vids.
subscribed. I just got 2 baby goats. They are approximately 8 and 10 weeks old. The little boy was a bottle baby and the little girl was just taken from her mother. They both feed. I thought I would give them a bottle to help them with transitioning. Do you recommend to free feed your weanlings.? They have free choice minerals hay and soda plus green grass and bushes
They should be just fine without the bottle at that age. Just make sure they always have free choice hay. It is not recommended to feed baking soda free choice, only give when they need it. 🙂
First time with a first freshener here.. 🙋♀️ My question is: When do I step in to supplement with colostrum/a bottle? The dam is cleaning them and letting them near her, but there has been no successful latching/nursing in 4 hours. Currently, the kids are beginning to get tired and laying down. While they did a lot of attempting in the first hour, the attempts have declined every hour since. Is bottle feeding needed? Will it deter nursing? What is better, milking he out (she's new so it will be a struggle in sure) or just use formula to get through these first 24 hrs.?
What if the person that you buy your kids from do not give them a vaccination and you get them at three months should you give them the vaccination at that point
Kid tossing, thats when a female goat hooks the new kids and tosses them. If that is a possibility get rid of those does. Second over crowding and low tempertures, kids get mashed, more spacing and better straw/ bedding materials. Really cold temps you migh need heating. Are the pens daft/ wind proof. I live in Arizona it still gets cold, the pens are made of adobe brick. very warm and draft free. I still loose 4%.
Very informative. I started raising Kiko goats last year and started my own UA-cam channel a few months ago. Check us out. I always love learning more about my goats.
