I got the two kids to feed on Mommas. The projected low is 21. Sunny day. Before the sun sets I am going to put 6 adult goats in the barn with the 2 kids. Plenty of fresh hay. I hope they will huddle up and keep the kids warm. Two more of my does are pregnant.
Having bottle rasied more than 30 kids I can tell you this warms my heart to no end. And if I'm correct the little baby is a TOGGENBERG and she looks like one of alltime favorite babies that I raised, she being the runt of a quadruple birth. She had misinformed front legs so that she couldn't run around like the others. So I improvised a sled for her to ride on when we took the herd out to brush graze along the Buffalo River in NW Arkansas. Oh and her name was LOLA. Thank you for sharing. I needed these memories again.
Well said that emergency situations happen! I had 2 first time Nigerian girls kid this year. One had no problems at all,had twins she cared for beautiful! My second doe had to have an emergency c section. Her and her twins survived and are doing well, but she didnt know what to do with them. Had to bottle feed them.
I raise the bottle babies for All the Boer goat farmers who have bottle babies. (Mom died, got rejected, triplet, ect.) I’ve done it for 4 years now (I’m 16 now) and I just love it! When they are weaned I either Give them back or Ill have the occasional “Foster fail” and keep him/her! I have my own little heard of bottle babies I’ve kept through the years I’ve been involved in this. They all are extremely imprinted on me, and quite honestly don’t act like goats at all. It’s funny because people are so shocked that they (sometimes lol) listen to me. They follow me everywhere and I go hiking with them in out woods pretty much Dailey. Wish I could add pictures! Great info
So glad you aren’t using replacer! We switch to cold milk after a few days, we add whole butter milk to help gut function too but just whole milk works fine too
Excellent advice! Thank you! I found out about the issues with milk replacer from listening to a bunch of horror stories from other goat raisers AFTER I bought a big bag my first year that my girls freshened. I threw it out
Little Bits of Heaven Homestead good call! Bottle babies can be tough, lots of small meals at first. I give CDT at 2 weeks old when on bottle also to try and help prevent any of the over eating diseases
Little Bits of Heaven Homestead I know you know what you’re doing ...was just sharing for others that may be new to the whole thing...I hope I didn’t come off like a know it all bc I am not for sure and I know you totally know what you’re doing

@@LittleBitsofHeavenHomestead what is ur favorite breed of goat? I'm a bit if a new goat momma. I have a black haired, blue eyed Nigerian dwarf. She's a rescue but getting friends for her this Spring.
I have 6 moms, six live kids. All six kids are nursing. The first four kids caught me by surprise, born in 5 degrees temps, and did not survive. Lessons learned. I put the 2 males out in the back 40. The mom's and kids are going to be limited to the barn and corral for a month or two. We have cyotes.
@@LittleBitsofHeavenHomestead The one doe had triplets. One of her kids is obviously more frail. Mom was slow to clean the weaker kid. The weak kid has a strong will and imposed itself on the mom and did nurse. I will watch the development of the weak kid, and bottle feed if merrited.
Colostrum is made before true milk comes in. It is full of antibodies and easy on the digestive system. They won’t necessarily die if they don’t receive it, but it is really good for them
I know this is an old video, but I just got a bottle baby, the rut of a set of twins. Momma doesn’t like her. Anyway, thanks for this information. I sure was needing the help.
It is 37 with a high of 40. I brought 2 new born goats into the house to warn up from 20 degree early morning temps. Should I bottle feed or attempt to get them connected with momma?
Thank you. I almost killed my first goats because I could not get them to take a bottle. They survived despite me and I learned lots of lessons. Last year I had a mom die just after birth and I raised all 3 of her kids. That was an adventure Livestock isn’t always easy
I just picked up a kid today. She is 6 and a half weeks old. I was wondering if I could give her a couple bottles of whole cow's milk? I'm new to the whole kid part of goats. I had a male that I picked up at like 5 yrs old. The people I got her from, said she was good to go from mama. So I'm just maybe needing help or advice please and thank you.
Hi. You can totally offer bottles of whole cow milk. If she doesn’t take to the bottle, don’t stress. She will be fine on hay and water. Milk is a benefit but not necessary for survival at that age.
Mine is only 3 days old and fights taking the bottle the woman who I bought her from gave me a nibble it seems like it comes out to quick it has like a x opening of the nipple but it really flies out my 2 year old human is still drinking a bottle cause he has some health issues but this would be to much for him. I think tomorrow I have to find a nipple that is slower. Is it suppose to run out fast Thanks first baby goat well I got 2
The flow probably is too fast. I would definitely try a new/different nipple They start eating hay really soon after birth. If you can’t get it to take a bottle, make sure it has access to hay and water
Hi, im a new goat owner. I just got to 3 week old pygmy goats. I dont like to take animals away from the mother bfore being weaned but the person I bought them from dont sale weaned goats. I read so much on care but now i got them home and its been a day and the half and they wont take the bottle. They hollar very loud when trying to bottle feed them. The minute i put them down they go to the water bowl and drink. When I got up this morning they had almost drank all of the water from the bowl. They will also nibble on hay and pellets but will not drink from the bottle. Im really worried and seller is not responding. They are running aound playing. Any advice would be appreciated.
Hi! Welcome to goats! They are an adventure Offer them hay and you can feed them grain (pellets) if you slowly introduce them Since they are drinking from a bowl, you can try offering milk in a bowl. My first goats was almost the same situation as what you are experiencing. I didn’t get mine to take bottles but they did survive Wishing you all the best!
We recently had to get rid of my puppy. I was so upset. So I ended up getting a goat!! My moms friend had a goat who was pregnant!!! So I wasn’t gonna get her until she was was weaned but her mama died so I got her at 4 days old she’s 6 days old now and I finally found a technique on how to feed her! But anyways thanks for the video it was helpful! She also is staying inside with me and sleeps on my bed with me I put diapers on her lol! Edit: also she’s a little doeling I feed her with a regular baby bottle because the goat nipples the one that your using she wouldn’t take I don’t know why Edit: it’s been like 4 weeks. My baby doeling know drinks on her own no forcing or nothing and she gets all pumped up when she sees her bottle 😅
How long do baby goats need to be on bottle. We bought 2 three week old goats from someone local that the momma wasnt making enough milk for them but we cant get them to take bottles
Offer pellets and hay. I had the same experience with my first goats Ideally, 12 weeks. That’s a really long time to bottle feed. If you can get them on the bottle, any amount of time will be beneficial Also, don’t stress. I see my baby goats eating hay just a day or two after being born. Chances are really good your goats will survive
@@LittleBitsofHeavenHomestead thank you they will eat grass im going to get them pellets and hay. We also put milk in a bowl and one drunk it no problem
It may be a struggle, but it can be done. You will have to be persistent If they won’t take a bottle, you can try and offer milk in a bucket. If they refuse that, they are old enough to offer hay and/or grain (pellets)

Don't buy from anyone who will sell you a 4wk old dam raised baby. That is a pretty irresponsible seller imo. Too many unneeded risks.
