I have always LOVED this performance and song for so long. However to hear her write a song about her father abandoning her, asking for money and leaving her heartbroken. To write a song about your husband who was different to then turn out to do the SAME EXACT THING! 🤦🏻♂️ Please react to her new edited version she performed at her last Vegas residency. It’s empowering!
Kelly Clarkson left it ALL on the stage! She is the epitome of a professional entertainer! And a beautiful soul! From what I’ve heard & read over the years this song was based off her experience with her father as a child.
This is a heart breaker. Her dad skipped out when she was young & wanted no part of her until she got famous. At the time of this performance show as happily married & thought he loved her & would be good for her & he would stay. Sadly, she is now divorced & so that makes this even more heart breaking. This is her story.
@@liveformybabies1190 wish that were true. My kids are now grown & parents themselves, yet their bio Dad has not seen them in over 20 years. Has never met his 3 grandchildren ages 6, 10 & 21. His loss. Step Dad stepped in & stepped up. But apparently, some people can walk away from their kids.
She has said in other interviews that the song takes on a new meaning now but that the song is still a reflection of how she feels, just in a different way. And her ex husband is still a father and hasn’t skipped out on the kids
Shawn and Mel, this is my story! My biological father walked out on me when I was about 3 1/2 years old. He never had anything to do with me. It was like I never existed. Kelly said things that I couldn’t say or describe. When she said “I was worthless,” That’s exactly how I felt. I’m 57 years old and I still feel that way. I’ve seen this particular video numerous times, and each time I still cry.
I'm a combat vet, I've done some things I can't forgive myself for but have accepted the 1st time I heard this song I balled like a baby. It reminds me of being away when my son was born and my wife dealing with that. Still together God bless her
This is one of the best songs and performances ever. The emotion is palpable. I watched this while my Dad was dying from cancer. I just remember sobbing while watching. American Idol was the show we watched as a family for years. I blessed with a good dad but knowing so many are not is devastating.
I've enjoyed y'all discus and breakdown music together through your own lens. But hearing Shawn repeat to Mel "you're wonderful, you're wonderful, you're wonderful"- Chef kiss - full circle beautiful-
This song means so much to every child whose parents walked away from them... Those scars always remain. But it is good to shed light on the damage done!
Omgoodness, that was a tearjerker before, then to see you cry...I am so sorry for your pain (and Kelly)...May God bless you and keep you beautiful and strong
I cry everytime I watch this performance. And sweetie I'm so sorry you experienced that. You are a strong woman. Good bless you for surviving that and your wonderful man for being there! ❤❤❤
Have always loved this performance by Kelly. You two had me in tears. Thank you for being so real and so open with your audience. It's noticed in a big way. Xoxo ❤
Okay Mel, you had me. Your true heart came to the surface and I will now be binge watching all your videos! Thank you for the REAL reactions. Loving your channel!!!
She has a new song that's basically a follow up to this song called Rock Hudson. It's from her divorce album Chemistry. Should give it a listen if you haven't already
Yes, Bless her heart, and Bless both of your hearts. 🌼 I've never wanted, more, to reach through the TV screen and hug someone, Mel. 🌼 Thank you both for that heartfelt, beautiful reaction.
This was tough to watch! When it was over the feeling it left me with was really similar to the was I felt when I heard nf why did you leave us! Props for her just being raw and real.
I love seeing people react to Kelly I've been a ride or die supporter of this woman for the last 21 years, and i really appreciate everyone/anyone that shines a light on how incredible she is!! Yall should do a few kellyokes from her show!
Growing up without a dad and an absent mom, this song makes me cry everytime I hear it, just like you Mel. Doesn't stop them from hitting me up now. HOWEVER, there are people that come along in your life that restores your spirit and heals your heart. We all deserve that. Thanks for reacting to this one. :) Check out her "Because of You".
I’ve watched a lot of reactions to this video and this is the first I’ve commented on because I just felt that y’all were super real and raw loved it ❤
True story about her own father. She talked about it on a talk show. He never came back until she got famous then he wanted to be in her life. That's why it's so hard for her to get through it😥😥
I'm so glad you can see what country music really is all about. I applaud you to bring this genre forward to be heard by your younger following. Thanks so much.
I remember her on Idol.. and taking my teen daughter and her freinds to the WI state fair to see her just after the show.. sitting and holding the spot in line... LOL.. what mothers do.. I didn't even go in, tickets were sold out and I preferred to sit and eat a cream puff.
I know this is about the Kelly being abandoned and her not doing the same to her daughter as well as her husband restoring her faith that men CAN be great fathers and husband's. I'm a man now but I relate to it due to my father abandoned me when I was 3 and only contacted me when he thought I might play in the NFL but lost interest once he found out I wouldn't pursue it due to meeting my now wife who did put me back together with my broken and tough past. I try to be the father I know can exist and that I would have loved to have had. Even though men are typically expected to not show emotions, when listening to this song I damn near ugly cry. It's embarrassing tbh but the scars are just too deep so I can relate in my own way. Great reaction!
I’m sorry Mel that someone also made you feel like that 🤗. . I love kelly so much, as a singer and person. I’ve seen this performance so many times and I still bawl each time.
My parents were married and loving until the day they passed, but this song makes me feel the other side of that! Being a Mom with kids and a loving, caring husband who would do anything for his kids, this really opens my eyes! 😢 Thank God for those step fathers who step up to the plate! You are heroes! 🥹
Kelly was almost 9 months pregnant here. The emotion!!!! Dear sweet Mel- Kelly had to divorce her husband because he was swindling her financially. They both live in the same area so the kids can see both parents regularly. But still. 😢
Yep, I still cry every time I see this, and I don’t have a relatable experience, but I just can’t imagine not having had my parents growing up. I feel for all who didn’t.
Okay I just stopped crying and then Mel you thanked Shawn for helping put your pieces back together I BROKE. This is my first time ever seeing one of your videos and you guys reacted incredibly to Kelly's performance. I think this performance is one of the most emotional in HISTORY out of any singer. So many people can relate to the lyrics, and then you feel the emotions from Kelly, it just breaks your soul. And I'm in my 30s still living with both parents, so I can't even IMAGINE the turmoil and pain ya'll must have felt growing up relating to the lyrics so much.
Love this performance … I’m sorry y’all can relate to this, I think anyone of us with abandonment issues gets hit hard by this I’m sure people without it do, but silver lining is it shows us how to be better parents/people 👍🏼
This song has me in tears every time even though I was in the opposite situation as a child and never had a day that I did`nt pray that my abusive father would get up and leave. He never did and I left the second I was old enough, some people just shouldn`t be allowed to have children.
Mel, I don’t know if you’ll ever read this. But just watching you for so long while I’ve been part of the squad. I think you’re a lovely person. And I think you make the world a better place. I really do. So never a doubt you’re worth. Nothing but love 🦋
I thank god for my magnificent father who worked his arse of to support us and was always there. I like to think I'm a good mother to my boy and although I'm not with his dad he is the best dad just like mine was, not in a million years would we abandon him. God bless to those who's parents didn't step up ❤
This song gets me everytime. I was 7 when my Father disappeared from my life but even when we lived in the same house he really wasn't there. 11 years later I found a man that was willing to beat down all the walls that I had built to protect myself. He stayed and is still by my side through all the good, the bad, etc, etc. We raised 3 kids together and made sure they always know their worth and I still do even though they are completely grown now. We had 2 biological kids and ironically, got custody of our youngest when she was 7 years old. Full circle but with a beautiful outcome not the one that I had. ❤❤❤
So, uh, yeah, this is my story too. Dad left when I was six. Got one phone call at 8, the next time I heard from him was when I was 23. The conversation went like this: Dad: "Hey, it's so great to hear your voice. When are you coming to see me?" Me: "When I'm invited." Dad: "Oh, you know, you always have an open invitation to come out here." Me: "No, actually, I didn't know that." Dad: "Look, I know I haven't been a very good father to you, but at least we could be friends." Me: "My friends treat me better than that." Dad: "So, is your brother home?" And that was the last conversation I ever had with him.
I have always LOVED this performance and song for so long. However to hear her write a song about her father abandoning her, asking for money and leaving her heartbroken. If you’re not crying you’re not human
I agree
Im not crying cause to me this song makes me more angered n resilient
Totally agree with u.

Cried. 51 years old

From what I’ve heard & read over the years this song was based off her experience with her father as a child.
I've watched this video countless times and it never fails to bring a tear to my eye. Keep being good humans.

This song and Kelly's performance speaks to the souls of far too many of us. Absolutely beautiful.
How can you not cry with this one? As sad as the story is, it is also an uplifting song about breaking the cycle.
Well, she’s suing her ex husband right now, for a second time
Best reaction to Kelly Clarkson's "Piece By Piece" that I have ever been privileged to watch!!!!
Thank you so much Will😀
This is a heart breaker. Her dad skipped out when she was young & wanted no part of her until she got famous. But he didn't leave his kids. Marriages can end. Parenthood never ends
Happy you had great people in your life

Your worth more than gold Sis. You have a heart of gold. So sorry you went through this at such a young age and still going through.
You are definitely not worthless.❤
I was 5!!
I understand. Similar experience.
Same here
Love this version so much better then the official video. Kelly is my favorite female singer
Agreed, I really don't care for the studio version. It's too poppy and takes so much away from the message.
This song gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. Beautiful
Oh Sweetheart! It’s ok to cry. ❤
i can relate as well, for me it is both my mother and father that walked away. god bless the parents that put their children first!!
I cry every single time I watch this performance.
Review the revised Piece by Piece she sang at her Las Vegas Residency where she now said she is her own hero.
One of the most emotional performances I've seen.
She opened her heart with this song.
I have seen this video 100 times and I never make it without crying with Kelly even though my dad never left our family. 😢
I love the fact y’all were holding hands out of the screen range. Mel, love you sweet girl, I get it.

Autobiographical. Heart wrenching! Hugs Mel!
When a song is from the Heart it touches every fiber of your body
Moved me to tears to you'd think that song was made for me cus I can relate.
Kelly is an amazing songwriter and singer with such real emotion and honesty!!!
This reaction just shows how special the both of you are.
Thank you D Carte, we appreciate that❤️
