    Get some Saskatoon berry bushes in there right. Sometimes called Honeyberries. They do well in any weather and found them to do well on any soil too (just mulch a bit in winter to feed them for spring). Lots of different varieties to choose from too.

    Enjoyed watching your video great information. I am growing blueberries in containers and I’m seeing flowers on them keeping my fingers crossed that I get berries this year 🫐

    I think planting any plant into the ground should be in good soil but a lot of people don’t know their soil is not good until their plant dies unfortunately, great video explaining this , a good lesson for better gardens and fruit trees as well as vines and berrys 👍

    I have been really hesitant to plant berry bushes because of the heavy clay soil here and the extreme winter temperatures we get. Rocky mountain region can drop down to -20's & -30's but usually -teens. Really good tips and useful information for prepping the soil and really informative. Thank you

      Thanks for watching! Check out cold hardy varieties. There may be some that can survive those temps. Especially if you mulch or cover them during winter. Blueberries you can grow in pots and bring up towards your home during winter. But definitely take the time to amend your soul!

    This video was so informative! Thank you. I tried to go through the other comments so I'm not re-asking a question, but what are your thoughts on growing berries in raised beds?

    • @fromdreamtoseed
      @fromdreamtoseed  8 днів тому

      Thanks so much! I’m happy to answer questions anytime so don’t feel like you have to take a lot of time searching 💚. I think raised beds are a great option. Especially if you have heavy soil. Berries do like to spread so there isn’t a guarantee they will stay contained. I would be mindful of spacing when planting too. 💚

    I decided I wanted some raspberries at my home here in Seattle, and I decided I wanted to spend my usual price: $0.00.
    Here's how things have gone----
    Last spring, I looked around at the neighborhood pea patch for those growing raspberries. As would be expected, wherever there were raspberries their were suckers trying to make their escape. Those growing raspberries were delighted when I asked if I could dig up a few suckers before they made their escape. I dug up five suckers with their developing root systems.
    I had a spot picked out next to my chain link fence that had been growing grass. This was on the north end of my property, facing south ---full sun.
    I dug up the grass and tossed that in the compost pile. I dug up the ground and mixed compost in with that, and planted the raspberry suckers in that dirt/compost mix.
    Over the summer the raspberry plants grew like topsy. The longest cane is about 6-7 feet long.
    A few days ago I decided that some support was in order. We've had a lot of fall rains recently, so the ground is soft. I have some steel rods and wood rods in my collection of junk, and stuck one of each at each end of my raspberry patch. I then used cord I've save to string from the chain link fence, around the two supports and back to the fence.
    I've arrange the raspberry canes so they are supported by the cord, and tied them to the cord when that seemed like a good idea.
    That really made things look a lot more organized!
    There are a few short growths which I will probably trim off.
    Those are my methods. The two most surprising things was how fast those canes grew once they were planted! And how much better the raspberry patch looked after it was staked out.

    Awesome video! What kind of compost did you use. Steer manure or food scraps composed at home?

    Hi, I picked up Arapaho from a farm supply store and it grows just like your Natchez; I read to tie it up about 40 inches and head it off while actively growing to make it bush out. I need to build a support A-Frame with EMT (1/2 inch pipe) because my blackberry plants are in 20 gal grow bags on my driveway. I have one Ponca and Navajo upright that needs no support. I also have a Tayberry (trailing) and was disappointed because it has thorns. Honeyberries and Northern Highbush blueberries are also growing near some fruit trees.. All the blueberries and blackberries in 1-gal pots froze due to crazy cold wind last winter. I'm interested in the (Wash-u-Taw) Ouichita as another upright variety. Considering placing berry bushes under some dwarf apple trees. I'm building a food forest in zone 6B and perennial plants are far superior to annual vegetables once established. When I was a young boy we had a hedge of tasty red raspberries that survived -30 weather.

      That sounds like a great setup. I do tip my blackberries to get more lateral canes.

      Crimson clover is an annual for many places, but buckwheat is a great summer one. You just want an annual cover crop.

    Hi! Heard that raspberries spread wildly when planted in ground. I do love more berries but concerned a bit that they would randomly pop up in my yard if I do that. Could someone please advise/share thoughts. Thanks!

    like the video, but the music is a little annoying. do you have plants that show up in the grass? i have thornless blackberries. I am too lazy to go find the tag. but they will send up a shoot as far as 4 feet away. and they are in clay in central texas. been there for a few years.

    • @fromdreamtoseed
      @fromdreamtoseed  4 місяці тому +1

      So far they have stayed in their lane. I do get raspberries that come up in the grass, but they are easy to pull.

    Is it okay to plant blackberries and raspberries together? I have read mixed things.

    • @fromdreamtoseed
      @fromdreamtoseed  Місяць тому

      Mine are separate just because their growing habits are a bit different. The blackberries get much larger. I think pruning would get very difficult.

    But I thought blueberry loves clay…

    • @fromdreamtoseed

      They like a decent clay content, but it still needs to drain. My soil is heavily compacted too

    • @heavymechanic2
      @heavymechanic2 4 місяці тому

      I grow lavender and it like to be mounded up for drainage, the same is true of blueberries. I took bags of pine bark mulch and tilled it in my berry rows to make the soil light and improve drainage. Its more like potting soil after the bark rotted down.
