Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I had never seen these before either. You just helped laura, the garden answer community and if laura share this with her parents, the andrew's customers will also benefit from it . Thanks again !
Is anyone else on the West side of OR/WA watching Laura plant blackberries in awe. These are so invasive in our area that no one would need to plant them since they're everywhere. Free blackberries!
Yes, I hear you! I’m from western Oregon and now live in western Washington. Your comment made me laugh as it reminds me of my new neighbor from California thrilled to have a mound of “wild” Himalayan blackberries in his yard. While I was fighting mine down to the roots next door, he actually started propagating more from cuttings! Our Himalayas, which are invasive and we fight, were actually introduced to the PNW by a guy named Luther Burbank and it quickly became invasive. They’re also disgusting to eat, in my opinion. Though they are notoriously good at feeding rats and invasive bird species. Big, bitter seeds and lacking in concentrated flavor. It always amazes me to see folks picking them along roads as if they’re scoring delicious, free fruit. It makes perfect sense to grow better varieties in the garden! I’m planting Marionberry this year. Happy gardening!
Laura, you're the garden friend everyone wants!! You're so knowledgeable and pleasant to watch. Thank you so much, Laura and Aaron, for sharing your garden and for inspiring us all!!
13:51 Some kind of katydid eggs. I google it for you Laura: Katydid, (family Tettigoniidae), also called long-horned grasshopper or bushcricket, also spelled bush cricket, the common true katydid (Pterophylla camellifolia) produces the repetitive song for which katydids are named; the song is phoneticized as “katy-did, katy-didn’t.” They are especially abundant in the tropics, particularly in the Amazon Rainforest, but are also found in cooler and drier regions, such as the heathlands of Australia, the deserts of the United States, and parts of Canada and northern Europe. They typically are found living on trees, bushes, or grasses, often matching the appearance of their surroundings.
I ADORE YOUR GARDEN AREA'S THEY ARE EVERY BIT SOMETHING I'VE DREAMED OF HAVING, BUT STILL WORKING TO SEE COME TO PASS AS YET??? NOT AT YOUR LEVEL OF GROWTH IN THE GROWN AS YOU ARE YET! JUST APPRECIATING ALL YOUR HARD WORK AND THANKING YOU FOR SHARING YOUR BEAUTY WITH US!!!
Laura I would just love a video on how you do your hair and what you use. I know that's random and has nothing to do with gardening lol but it's always looks so healthy and pretty!

Yes! As wonderful as they are and the great videos they post, this is the one thing I wish they did more of - timeline videos - so we can see progress and change of significant areas/plantings! 👍👏🙌

I first found your channel when Covid broke out, and while I was furloughed from work, I would sit at home and watch your older episodes while dreaming about my home, family, and garden. I am from the western side of Oregon where blackberries are a nuisance. When I moved out of state I had job as a cashier. A customer came came through my line with a blackberry plant and I was so confused! I could not believe what I was seeing and told them I should have been in the blackberry selling business!
Same here! I was thinking of all the blackberries we killed, hacked back etc. watching them being planted on purpose! Now that we live in a state without them, I kinda miss them. haha!
Love blackberries! They grow wild here and I have fond memories of my dad giving my brother and I a bucket and sending us out on our bikes to go find berries for homemade ice cream and cobbler. Can't wait to see how these grow. The south garden is really coming together
Omg wild blackberries?!?? FREAKING LUCKY!!! We have wild mulberries where I'm at. The birds planted 21 mulberry trees on my 2.5 acres. I think its so sweet of them but I wish we had wild wild blackberries.
FREAKING LUCKY. Are you kidding me. Wild blackberries are nothing like normal berries. They cannot be killed. They grow and grow and grow, you can't stop them you can only watch as they consume everything you love. Last year i lost 7 friends in the forest of pain, we couldn't save them without risking getting turned to mincemeat by the demonbush's 3 cm long razorblade thorns.
Your 3rd year will be the best year. The first year you’ll get some fruit but the fruit will only grow on what is existing right now. So be patient and enjoy!! 🥰
Laura it's so satisfying watching you work. Your efficiency is over the top!! Every time you dig a hole and dump amendment you don't hesitate one bit. I'm sure it inspires us viewers to work more smartly in the garden!
MICROCENTRUM EGGS!!! Yes they laid and hatched, if you find some that haven’t opened prune them off and spray tree with Triple Action Neem Oil!!! Thanks for all your content helping us to enjoy the beauty in our gardens and share your expertise with others! Loving the interest Benjamin has shown this year, he will be something else to watch in years to come! Thank you for all you do for us! ❤️
I had the same thing on one of my plants last year, they were so pretty! I agree with a previous comment, I believe they were katydid eggs. Nature can be so beautiful, happy gardening!
Bugs in a bag! I love it. That is a common occurrence around work for me too. (Landscaping Industry, it is either bugs or weeds to identify.). The eggs look similar to Katydid eggs. Best of luck with the berries and the bugs. ;)
As a first time gardener, I am learning so much from you! Even the simple way you set up materials for efficient work! Kudos to your photographer/videographer for their skills!!
Yes this was fantastic. Got to see Mum and Dad and Samantha Grace ( she’s growing so great). Great raise beds and complete now. Thank you so very much for sharing this with us. Appreciated.🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
🌸 Good morning Laura and family, They eggs you found on your maple are grasshopper 🦗 eggs🥚 had some on my wind chime string yeah crazy huh took a picture put on Garden Answer Groupies got alot of comments that they where grasshopper 🦗eggs🥚 . I can't wait to see the berries in there full glory yay👏, you and Aaron, make everything look so easy but, I know it's not. Samantha Grace, is getting taller and so adorable can't wait to see her out in the gardens 💐 this summer. Thank you for sharing, have a wonderful rest of the day. 🌸🙂
Great job! We have grown Triple Crown blackberries in our zone 8b California garden for the last 15 years. They are wonderful! I would like to tear out the other two varieties we have altogether and just leave the Triple Crown. Enjoy!!
Your skill level driving the fork lift looks A-1!! Love your videos and how fun to watch your mom and dad using the diopter to look at the scientific project...
I like this video! It was a whole buffet of Garden Answer! A little bit of harvest, a little of sweet baby girl, some biology mystery, the family and garden center, and planting with some tips. Not to mention, I love longer videos! It really made my Saturday morning tea time! I would love if every Friday video were like this one to hold me over until the Highlights on Sunday. I love you guys! I might come all the way from Spain and fangirl you one of these days! May God continue to bless you! Hugs, Brittany
☕️Good day to all! Cloudy and 55 here in southeast Michigan today-coffee tastes too good to do anything but watch Laura work her magic in the blackberry beds. On the insect issue, the University of Wisconsin has a disease diagnostics lab where you can email them a picture and they will help identify. Perhaps Oregon has one, too. Thank you for showing little Samantha’s beautiful smile! Stay well everyone💚🌱🌥
Great job. Covered quite a bit today. Blackberries and raspberries are so good and healthful. Can’t wait to see how they do - along with all the things! Nice to see your mom, and dad. It looks like you’re wearing down your dad’s resistance to being on camera! 🤣👍. Samantha Grace is so cute! 💚💚💚
Those katydid eggs. They overwinter. They hatch in spring but, it is so close and our weather in Oregon this year has been pretty mild. I love the perfect symmetry of how they lay their eggs!
My parents have blackberry bushes in southern California, my Mom planted 3 branches she got from her brother who cut them from wild blackberries on his property near Yosemite. She literally stuck them into the ground near a border fence and they grew and spread and took over the whole fence that I think is about 30 feet long and 6 feet tall and they reach over the fence all the way to the ground on the other side into the neighbors side yard and they have to cut them back just so they don’t grow into the walkway but they let them grow and harvest too. My Mom fills her freezer with what she harvests and gives away a lot to neighbors and family and can’t harvest it all. The birds love them too. They have been growing there for now over 20 years and she has never fertilized them, my Dad has cut them back every few years when they get too thick. They are the biggest, juiciest and sweetest blackberries I have ever had and we have no idea what kind they are but it’s now impossible for me to eat any other blackberries.
Yay, for the blueberries! Now on to planting grapes 🍇 ...Are you guys considering creating a "vineyard" for wine 🍷connisurs? Maybe next project ...a wine cellar? OR add a "station" in the Hartley for wine-tasting?!? BTW... are any of these varieties of blueberries 🫐 used for creating wine🍷 Or a liquor? The possibilities are endless 🥰💕🥰💕🥰
Cylinder towers with multiple openings would be really cool for the strawberries! Put them in the corners of the berry patch like pretty edible pillars. They’d look so pretty trailing down the sides of the tower. 🍓
Blackberries always make me feel nostalgic... Growing up in Oregon there were blackberry bushes EVERYWHERE. There was a field behind our house and in the back there were bushes (we had some right at our fence line, but my dad would cut them back cause they were a pain!) and we'd go back there and pick TONS and eat them fresh or make blackberry vanilla milkshakes... If they lasted that long haha. I have no clue what varieties any of the bushes were, but they were always so big and plump and delicious!
Your my hero, love the berry beds and the garden. I can’t imagine what you will do with all the new things in your garden. It a journey I’ve loved watching.
Excited to see the cut-flower-shed come together!! The BERRIES will be brilliant, no doubt! Please tell us more info about the in-wall heating unit.... is this the same unit that your mom had installed? ...and Samantha - oh my such a joy-filled face!!
Thank you, Laura, for this tidbit of information. I know your video is on blackberries, but at the end you talked about gathering your strawberries together into a waist-high type of raised garden, and THAT is what really caught my attention today. BINGO! Sam's Club has a raised container planter that is 44" X 18" X 33" high for just over a hundred dollars in my Middle TN, Zone 7 area. I'd already decided that I am going to invest in one of them this season for my back deck area, but was still mulling over what I wanted to plant in it. Meanwhile, I also have a large, plastic wash tub of strawberries that will be going on it's third summer, I believe. That container is aged and cracking and needing to be replaced. So now, because of your nonchalant side comment about strawberries at the end, I am going to transplant my strawberries, and add to them, into that raised garden that I want from Sam's. It will be perfect. Thank you for the inspiration you give. THANK YOU so much for sharing your lives with us! May God continue to bless you and keep you in the palm of His hand.
I think those are katydid eggs on your maples that have already hatched. No worries
Agree.
I was hoping somebody could identify them. I just looked it up and it does seem like that's exactly what they are. Thanks for the insight.
Aren’t the fascinating looking!
Well done!
I looked it up and the adult katydid have some leaf like camouflage..very interesting..thanks for the info..

Laura’s HATE for Spider mites is REAL!
Loved this video, I love them all!! 🌿
I have never laughed this hard because of a garden video before

I thought this was hilarious. Props to the editing master of the fireball! 🔥 😂
Spider mites are my nemesis
I'm definitely with her on the hate for mites!! Last year they were relentless!
Just shows how well-rounded Laura is....She got skills on the forklift then for coffee/expresso she whips out a fancy-shmancy teacup! Love it! LOL

@@peggyhelblingsgardenwhatyo7920 she is beyond awesome!!💯
Oh yes, katydid eggs! I love these guys, so neat. Sometimes they look like a welder stopped by. I find these quite often, along with katydids.
I scrolled through the comments to find the answer! Lol thanks for sharing! 😊

Laura I would just love a video on how you do your hair and what you use. I know that's random and has nothing to do with gardening lol but it's always looks so healthy and pretty!
Those are definitely Katydid eggs. The good news is that they do minimal to no damage in the garden.

I was in full agreement on that "if it's spider mites, I'm burning the whole garden down" I felt that in my soul. We did not come to play
Seeing the native soil in that bed makes me think I take my native soil for granted. It's like planting in coffee grounds in New Orleans
Native soil = rocky clay for me here in PA lol
I was watching her trench for the water supply line and thought, "Look at that fluffy soil."
Our clay is really sticky right now.
In Maine where I live there are more rocks than soil it seems, lol.

A great tool for your arsenal would be a Wilton trenching spade to slip watering tube into the soil without digging up a larger ditch.
Those katydid eggs. They overwinter. They hatch in spring but, it is so close and our weather in Oregon this year has been pretty mild. I love the perfect symmetry of how they lay their eggs!
Have you thought about growing marions? their season is super short but SO worth the wait!
Raised beds are GORGEOUS!
I loved that cool transition from coffee cup to garden bed around 16:05 😊
Me too!
Yes, so creative. I appreciate the time it took to do that. And I got such a chuckle from the atomic bomb clip - so unexpected!
“If those are mite egg pouches I’m going to light our garden on fire!”
That has to be the most relatable thing Laura has ever said. 😆
Good idea ! Love the imagination !
Every time I plant something I ask God to overlook my ignorance and help it to grow. ❤️
Katydid eggs. So beneficial in a garden. You got lucky on this one. So glad you don’t have to torch your beautiful landscape.
So cool just shopping in the barn 😉 and samantha well a video is worth a thousand words 😘 pinch those cheeks 🥰💞💫
Laura, love to watch how happy you get with the promise of spring weather.
loved the transition at 16:05!! props to your editor~
