Great review. People always put down the Hair Metal Era, but fail to realize how talented a lot of these bands were and still are. Winger is right there at or near the top.

Their image was their curse. Kip was too good looking. The MTV Era so the label really highlighted and pushed the image. But these are serious, kick-ass musicians! Rod Morgenstein, the drummer, is from the Dregs, for God's sake! Winger never did much in the way of odd meter or polyrhythmic stuff, but he is very good at playing to the song, while still going off. So if you listen carefully, you'll find he is throwing in some crazy complex sh*t, he just disguises it really well. Lots of ghosts notes and what not. It is easy to hear in a song like Headed for a Heartbreak. Kip is a classically trained musician and also ballet dancer. That getting out probably didn't help fight the image playing against them early in their career.

Winger were all studio musicians who came together out of Alice Cooper. The drummer, Rod Morganstein, is a prog rock drummer from the Dixie Dregs, Reb Beach has played guitar with Chaka Kahn, Dokken, Night Ranger, Winger, solo stuff and is currently the longest lasting member of Whitesnake aside from David Coverdale.

Also wanted to add, that these guys you see in the video are the ones currently touring, Winger
is one of the few that sounds live, just like they do in studio. Kip still has a fantastic voice as do

Winger has released 3 albums since their reunion in 2006 - 'IV' (2006)... 'Karma' (2009) and this record "Better days comin' " (2014). Winger did try to evolve their 80's sound w/ the 'Pull' album in 1993, but no one was listening to them in the grunge rock era.
A number of 80's rock bands tried to make themselves relevant musically and released great albums... 'Dog eat dog' by Warrant... 'Subhuman race' by Skid Row... 'Let it rock' by Great White... 'Fear no evil' by Slaughter... 'Vicious circle' by L.A. Guns... 'Native tongue' by Poison... Motley Crue self-titled album w/ vocalist John Corabi... "It's 5 O'clock somewhere" by Slash's Snakepit... 'Dysfunctional' by Dokken... 'Still climbing' by Cinderella... 'Show business' by Kix... '3' by Firehouse... 'Hey man' by Mr. Big... 'Terrified' by Quiet Riot... etc.
But no one gave them a chance...
Even established metal & rock bands failed to make an impact in the 90's... Iron Maiden's 'The X factor'... Accept's 'Objection overruled' ... Testament's 'Low'... Overkill's 'W.F.O.'... Exodus' "Force of habit"... Saxon's 'Dogs of war'... Manowar's 'Louder than hell'... Anthrax's 'Stomp 442'... Scorpions' 'Face the heat'... Dio's 'Strange highways'... Motorhead's 'Sacrifice'... Black Sabbath's 'Cross purposes'... Metal Church's 'Hanging in the balance'... Deep Purple's 'Purpendicular'... etc. None of these records had a major impact in sales or musically, sad to say...

(Note: Karma is a great album start to finish and worthy of a full listen.) Solo Kip Winger: How Far Will We Go, Another Way, Down Incognito, Under One Condition, Miles Away. Every Story Told, Where Will You Go, Pages and Pages, In Your Eyes Another Life (About his deceased wife/ love of his life)

I like the straight ahead rockers, but as I age I find myself leaning more to the songs that have a bit more melodic structure, not necessarily softer or heavier, either, just songs with a bit more complexity in both musical and lyrical content/structure. Of course, I still love the straight ahead, all out rockers, but when thinking of songs to highlight and suggest I choose the ones that have some uniqueness and individuality and a bit less generic. So you will find that reflected in my song choices above. However, everything they do, they do it well, so it is just a matter of style and preference. The cool thing about having a nice mix is it makes for great diverse albums that stay interesting and make you come back for repeat listens.

As a longtime Winger fan, I'm glad whenever I hear that someone's opinion of them that was formed purely from "Bevis & Butt-Head" actually LISTENS to their music - and then decides whether to like or dislike the band on their own merit.
Also, WINGER just released the single "Proud Desperado" 3 days ago - you should DEFINITELY check that out if your liked this song!

    - Down Incognito
    - Easy Come Easy Go
    - Junkyard Dog
    - Spell I'm Under
    - Madalaine
    - Miles Away: This is a softer song
I don't remember which one you did but there's
    - Can't Get Enough
    - Hungry
Another band you ought to try is Badlands. Formed by Jake E Lee (Ozzy's guitarist), Ray Gillen (Black Sabbath singer after Ozzy), Eric Carr (drummer for KISS), and Greg Chaisson. In my opinion it's Jake E Lee's best work. A couple of songs to try...
    - High Wire
    - Dreams In the Dark
Have a great one T keep on rocking!

    • @mikenastasi8927
      @mikenastasi8927 Рік тому +1

Eric Singer (Black Sabbath, Alice Cooper, Avantasia) on drums not Eric Carr. Eric Singer left Badlands and joined KISS on drums after Eric Carr passed away. In Black Sabbath after Ozzy on vocals was Ronnie James Dio (Elf, Rainbow), Ian Gillan (Deep Purple), Glenn Hughes (Trapeze, Deep Purple, Black Country Communion, California Breed, The Dead Daisies, Hughes Turner Project), Tony Martin. Ray Gillen did record vocals and sing with Black Sabbath but not on any official release. Years later on the remastered deluxe of Seventh Star, it included him singing live at the Hammersmith Odeon, and on the remastered deluxe of The Eternal Idol, it featured his vocals that were recorded, but the original album officially released features Tony Martin on vocals. Ray Gillen also sang in Rondinelli and Sun Red Sun.

I'm surprised Haven't listened to Winger since the 80's. It is a decent rocking tune, I like a heavy faster paced song, this kinda falls flat for me in the refrain would have been a winner for me if there were some screams or growls. Rest of the song was great. Vocals good but not Dio good, he's got some power but not the range. You wanna see DIO good? There is a young guy from Croatia Dino Jelusick he is hitting the scene hard just filled in for the singer of the Dead Daisies please check out the live Mistreated video from last month, omg there has to be some DIO in this guy he's amazing!

I don't believe they have anything new past this album. This song is good, but there are others on this
album that are great ( Tin Soldier and Queen Babylon ). Most fans agree they really progressed starting
with the 3rd album "Pull" in which pretty much every song is gold. Then they outdid even that album with "IV"
where the songs were both catchy and serious, topic wise - M16 being one of the best. You should really
weave these picks into your journey, among the "hits" that everyone knows.

Can you react to the new episodes of Beavis and Butt-Head please where Beavis is talking to the fire in the dumpster that was hilarious 😂👋☺️😊

I hated it. As a huge beavis and butthead fan I was incredibly disappointed.

You should check out Your Great Escape and Short Flight to Mexico on the Winger IV album. Two great songs. Plenty of absolutely excellent Winger songs to be heard.
