Thank you Alex. It is a nice tree. But.. Sometimes I do consider it more topiary than bonsai. And then I see things pop by that make me put this in bonsai corner again!
First - beautiful tree. You covered a lot about tending, shaping, wiring, and especially when each should be done. Plan to incorporate one aspect you covered…now to convince the wife (who loves flowering plants/trees), that eventually removing the flowers is healthy and wise in our few bonsai. Keep them coming my friend. You are doing great.
I will never tire of seeing how pads are formed. Great video. I look forward to the deadwood all carved. That will be very cool. The red pot is awesome, I have been very focused on those sorts of pots as of late.
I love this video! Actually recently picked up an Azalea of some sort. In a big box store... "Oh look! PLANTS!" It was a valentine thing. The only one in the whole pile that wasn't solid dark pink flowers. "OOooOOoo Azalea! I've heard that word in Bonsai videos before!" Was my excuse to buy it...
Go for it! Just be carefull and first figure out how brittle the branches are. This is a bit weather and season dependent. Go slow untill you have a feel for it.
Thank you for a wonderful and insightful video. What a beautiful tree. Well timed video as well as Azaleas grow very well where I live and I want to get some miniature azaleas, and also plan to take parts of the bushes in my yard to play around with as bonsai. They grow so well I have unlimited material to experiment with.
Can I ask what and when you fertilise? Thank you for a useful demonstration. I lifted a garden grown dwarf azelea last spring. A hard prune and it's doing well this year. Ready for flowers next year I hope. 🌸 I need to start to style. So your explanation is appreciated.
@@GrowingBonsai thank you, bought my first azalea and it needs pruning so wondering if cuttings taken now would take, be a waste to throw them out. I will deffo take some in spring and have a go
Hi Jelle I’m just about to start wiring my azalea. It’s the one in my boat pot. Could you tell me if they ground root from the branches. Ie if I stick the live branch in the soil will it root out so I can creat a carpet ? Thanks mate
Very well produced and utilising the entire year works perfectly. I have followed the same pattern myself. My local dwarf azalea are in full 'purple' bloom right now. It is always nice knowing that both the Fuji cherry and the Azalea give such pleasure at this time of year :)

A nice splash of colour is always good!!
THe memory of spring, awaking
It's a very unusual tree but I think that makes it more interesting and fun to work with

Haha the magic trick was worth a try. Awesome video and informative as always thank you

Hey Jeff, good to see you here. I am so happy you like the videos. Some more in the making :)

Have fun! How is LA today? Warm weather?
Great video Jelle it’s given me the confidence to wire my azalea to get a nice shape this year thanks mate 👍👍👍👍

Great video 👍 thanks
Hi, really enjoy your videos. How long do you keep wires on branches? Thank you
I have an azalea that needs moved in my garden. I think I'll try moving it into a pot and training it as a Bonsai
:) You should!

Yes you can! I feetilise with organic ellets (saidu g) and maybe twice: in early and mid spring and once in summer. I keep this one growing slowly!
Lovely job, whens best time to take cuttings to propagate
Thx. I take Azalea cuttings in spring at the start of the growing season. However, cuttings in later winter also seem to work.

Superb 🌸
Thank you! Cheers!
No rabbits in that hat...still a magic video and a beautiful tree.
Thank you so much. Was a little disappointed that no rabbit came out.
Bigger tree more room for flowers 👍🏻
When is the best time to repot or do rootwork Jelle?
For azalea you have the choice of early spring, before flowering, or after flowering later in spring.
Love the way this tree is progressing Jelle!
:) Looking forward to this tree in 5 years :)
@@GrowingBonsai isn’t that the daily line for Bonsai creators 🤣

Normally they should throw roots. You could slightly damage the bark and add rooting hormone
@@GrowingBonsai thanks Jelle 👍👍
I have a Satsuki azalea, which brought last May. My zone is 6b. I brought it in for the winter. Is it normal for it to drop its leaves in the winter?
It will drop some leaves. But it should keep leaves around the buds. What do you mean, brought in? Not in the house I hope?

Great to hear! Your azalea are flowering now? Cool! Mine are still a few weeks away!
@@GrowingBonsai It is just a shame that they have to flower in the greenhouse because of the snow and cold right now!
👍👌👌🙂🙂
:D
I was going to say - no way deadheading can be done with hocus pocus 🤣
I was sooo disappointed!
