    I was buying the bullion coin's for under $100 just a couple years ago! They actually had lower silver premiums than ASE's!

    A lot of coin collectors/silver stackers missed out on just being able to collect all 56 different versions of these beautiful 5 ounce coins, simply because it took 11 long years for all of them to be released by the US Mint! That's a huge time commitment that not every collector is willing or able to make. But now that all 56 coins have been released as of April 2021, many are taking to Ebay or other private collectors to buy the complete sets, especially the rarer and more special 'P' mintmark matte finish versions. They are commanding well over $20,000 or more on the internet!

    It’s a fun series and I have about 8 examples
    I was picking these up raw for $90 and graded (69) for $105 a little over a year ago so yah I’m Good on these for now. Someday when things settle I’ll get back to working on the set

    HI BEN. I THINK THE SP DESIGNATION IS SPECIMEN. I LIKE THE MATTE FINISH. I PICKED UP THE SP CHACO CANYON AND MT RUSHMORE COINS. I PICKED UP SOME OF THE EARLY BULLION STRIKES WHEN THEY WERE SOLD AS CHEAP AS GENERIC, AS A BULLION PURCHASE. MY MONETIZED BULLION WILL NOT BE SOLD WHEN I SELL MY GENERIC BULLION. IT IS WHAT I CONSIDER PERMA STACK. *TYU*

    Sold mine the other week for almost double the price I paid. George Rogers Clark version. Glad to buy paper money with it! ;)

    Wow! I would have thought the special one looked more like the regular strike! Thanks for the information!

    I just got one of the Hawaii 5 oz, “P” collectors coins graded, and it made “Top Pop” , none finer 70. So excited, wonder what it will sell for at auction??

    I have all of the "P" issues. Only one more to go and the series is done.

    I've picked up a couple over the years. The first one I got because the subject of the coin was in the same state as me (Gettysburg). The second one was a design I liked (the Mount Rushmore design). I never quite understood why they have a flat edge other than to note that it's 5 ounces of silver.

    SP stands for speciman, they are vapor blasted. The Wikipedia page has updated mintage figures. I help keep it updated. Yes I am a collector. I have at least one of every speciman and quite a few of the bullion versions especially the low mintage ones. Thanks for the video ,El Yunque is one of my favorites

  • @AudiophileTubes
    @AudiophileTubes 3 роки тому +1

    The much lower mintage 5 ounce silver ATB vapor blasted, 'P' mintmark coins, in the US Mint boxes is worth a LOT more than the bullion versions without the 'P' mark! Especially in complete sets (56 total in all) in their original boxes with documentation. Thus they are more collectible and prone to increased value due to their 'rarity'.

    Hi Ben. I bought a couple of the first issue from the mint ,then the one with the bat. I like the frog n parrot but did not get it. . Just too much to store , expensive and I am not a big fan of many of the designs. A few are enough for me. . Thanks, Bill

    Thanks for your video, it was cool to see these two side by side to tell the differences.
    I thought about getting one of these beautiful 5oz coins but the quarter face is too standard for me. If they put one of the older Washingtons on it or at least lost some words I'd be happier. I'm fine with the face value being a quarter still but I also think $2 would look pretty cool on this

  • @fifteenbyfive

    This would make a good prank to pull on someone you want to help out. "That'll be 25 cents." "Hey you, you gotta quarter? Yeah yeah, I got your quarter right here buddy, just hold your pants on. I gotta keep it in my backpack, you understand? So it's a special quarter..."

    I would if budget and space permitted but I don't. The special finish is beautiful and it looks similar to the Enhanced Uncirculated finish the US Mint has offered every few years (for example the 2017-S Enhanced Uncirculated clad set is a beautiful one).
    I think for someone who got on board at the start of the series they were smart to do so as it makes a wonderful collection. In the long run though premiums for top grades will likely rise for the bullion brilliant finish versions as you noted these aren't preserved as well as the special finish ones.
    Anyway, for my resources and seeing how much I have spent over the past 1 1/2 years (several thousands) to explore various products, I have decided to hone my goals to a) Walking Liberty half dollars, b)$1 Gold dollars c) A few enrollments with the US Mint d) and Maundy UK coins or possibly a full set if I decide to cut back on the other categories. I would leave a little room for a Peace dollar, Franklin half and a Palestinian British Mandate coin but these are secondary or tertiary. I mean I estimate that the cost of my goals plus adding in a little for supplies and magazine subscription is at minimum $1,300 for the year if I get one or two pieces from each category, less if I omit the $1 gold dollar. As is apparent , I can (and have ) easily gone higher but I would like to spend less but smarter (comfortable for me would be 2 - 2,500 if income permits).
    Sorry to go on but I hope you do find it interesting. Having financial restrictions can be a great benefit as it forces one to reign in their focus and get a collection with puts quality over quantity (and anyway, one can coin roll search to exorcise the temptation to spend on something you really never wanted or needed).

    Geek, it's a parrot! Macaw's are more South American. I'm not an ornithologist. Thanks for taking the time to cover the subject. Very few have. Special proof? Hardly a PR or PF. More like brilliant. The SP are definitely fewer mintage and more valuable for sure.

    It's a bird but not a parrot. It is instead a Carolina parakeet that once roamed the South Western 🇺🇸 before they were completely driven to extinction in late 1800s.

    When Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico,more than half of the bird population was lost.There are about 30 types of Amazon parrots in the Americas, with the Puerto Rican Amazon as the only remaining native parrot

    I dont know if you read my comment from yesterday but I'm really interested on your take on the video I shared. I feel like the guy was saying if a coin that has a CAC sticker isn't doing well at auction CAC will bid on that coin or coins so the pricing doesn't fall on their values?

    • @TheCoinGeek
      @TheCoinGeek  3 роки тому

      I don’t know if that’s true-. But I do know that the single owner of CAC does buy coins.

      @@TheCoinGeekthat's why I asked your opinion because I didn't think I heard it right or understand it right. Did you watch the video? Because that is a company indorsed video. I was hoping you could explain it to the youngen over here.

    The bird is definitely not a macaw or maybe you’re right it is a Macaw. It can’t be a Toucan. But I’m not ornithologist so I can’t tell you just what kind of a parrot the bird is. Since the beginning I was a Collector of America the beautiful quarters both small and large I collect both the bouillon version and the SP version. I concentrate mostly on the 2012 Hawaiian volcano coins.I grab all the volcano coins I can get my hands on.

    • @edwardslizewski4338
      @edwardslizewski4338 3 роки тому +1

      I have googled it and the bird is a Puerto Rican parrot. The Puerto Rican parrot is an endangered species almost wiped out by hurricane Irma.
