Woah it’s even more impressive when you read her wikipedia page: “She had less than four hours notice that she would sing that night, and the curtain was even briefly held past 20:00 to allow her to walk the stage. She interpolated a High A-flat (A♭6) into Olympia's aria, which, at the time, was conjectured to be the highest note to have ever been sung on the stage of the Met.”

Nice and solid coloratura and high notes. The acting is fine also. She doesn't overacted the character

Agreed! She doesn't do the dreaded over-or-under-acting-only that so many opera singers are notorious for.

I thought I've watched the recording quite a few times, but I never saw the long standing O that they had at the end for her. Well deserved! And those reactions from the chorus look pretty authentic!

@MrLupo23 Come on man...are you serious? This was her Met debut, unplanned. I saw Kathleen Kim sing this a few times during the same run and can say that the bold abandon with which Ms. Gilmore takes the coloratura is utterly incredible. It stood in contrast to Ms. Kim's clean, but "safe" rendition. I think this was great, whether there were a few flat notes or not.

But I hear some bulls eye, razor sharp clarity too...one must take in account the circumstances. The last minute call to PERFORM. Imagine how excited she must have been! I think she's breathtaking.
I hear accuracy in her tones at pretty open, potentially brutal parts of this aria. Refreshing! BRAVA DIVA!

If a singer can't sing in tune, she does not belong singing at a major house. This is one of the fundamentals of vocal training and used to be taken for granted.

George Chaka on a piece she hasn’t had days and days to practice on? something of literally last minute? even so, she sang and did well enough cause they ain’t kick her out cause I’m sure the professionals understood

@@georgechaka4243 You don't know what you are talking about, this is from the singer herself "In this particular aria, the first verse is sung as the composer originally wrote it, and then the second verse is done with embellishments that are usually chosen by the artist. These were “my embellishments” and had been for quite some time, although a few people have adapted them since then"

Moves his heart, which shudders of love!
