Seems like everyone tries to out do previous versions, costumes and comedy gets pushed more and more to the limit, maybe this is as far as the comedy should go, the vocal was starting to suffer I think, but still wonderful, loved the grunt at 4.40 was awesome!

@@nickdavis965 yes. Because you need a ceryain stance for singing, keep your shoulders at a certain position, and makesure not to tire your voice too much.

However in this case I think too much focus was out into the antics of the performance and technique suffered a bit. It's a fun song to sing, enjoy doing it. Just dont get carried away with it.

Yet another excellently done performance of one of the hardest coloratura arias ever written! The comedy is spot on for the theme of the play; nice to see also that the soprano stuck to the basic notes instead of making it harder! Though I do enjoy the various extrapolations that many have done. This was easily one of my favorites!

How can one not appreciate and chuckle at Elizabeth Futral making fun of her character, the doll "Olympia"? Vocally she was great. We simply do not hear enough from this dazzling, powerful, articulate coloratura soprano, Elizabeth Futral. She is simply on top of her gain in her career. I wish the Met, and so many other big companies would mount operas around her and utilizing such brilliant talent. Lord knows, she a beautiful woman ( like Moffo was ) to boot. Easy on the eyes. But she is a educated woman, who does her homework in what she performs and it shows. I wish the Met would've let her sung this season Donizetti, tragic 3 Queens at Met. Would've been historic for sure. She has the range, agility, and 9 times out ten, she hits the stratospheric high notes spot on!! Come on opera companies, get your damned act together, and get this talented Olympic ( not pun intended ) singer in bigger and splashy productions.

My wife and I have been privileged to see Elizabeth Futral in many performances. She has an astonishing voice and is among the most accomplished singing actors we have ever seen. She actually performed ALL of the primary female roles, Hoffman's loves, in this production. She is so incredibly gifted and can perform any kind if role. We have also been lucky to have met her on several occasions, a real delight for people like us who have been opera fanatics from very early childhood! BRAVA ELIZABETH!

Exactly. Good presentation, very funny (I couldn't help laughing a little), and effective theatrically. However, Operatic means theater with music and singing - and the singing part is by no means less important than anything else. So, maybe that's the less fortunate aspect of this rendition.
