PIPPIN: I didn't think it would end this way. GANDALF: End? No, the journey doesn't end here. Death is just another path, one that we all must take. The grey rain-curtain of this world rolls back, and all turns to silver glass, and then you see it. PIPPIN: What? Gandalf? See what? GANDALF: White shores, and beyond, a far green country under a swift sunrise. PIPPIN: Well, that isn't so bad. GANDALF: No. No, it isn't.
When my infant son passed away in January 2021 after a brief but valiant battle with a congenital heart defect it was hard to find a song appropriate to help us say goodbye. Before he was born I bought him a blanket with his name and LOTR characters on it- we draped his tiny coffin with that blanket and this version of Into the West was truly perfect.
When my brother passed away in December of 2022, I'd spend days listening to this song. He was a huge fan of the Lord of Rings trilogy. We'd spent days rewatching these movies until we knew every line. "All souls pass..."
Lost me mum to suicide almost a year ago, she took me and my brother to NZ a long time ago when LOTR was in production. This song breaks me every time I listen to it.
find the book "life after life", you'll learn many things... ours souls never dies, your mum sees you and your pein is her's too... don't be sad, she will apreciate! god is love and we all will meet him up there, your mum will wait for you...
Oh I’m so sorry to hear this! I hope you understand that your Mum wasn’t meaning to deliberately leave you and your family in pain, she obviously wasn’t very well by the sounds of it and now she’s at peace. I hope you and your brother still hold onto to those wonderful memories of visiting Aotearoa and then watching The Lord of The Rings to see those beautiful landscapes that your Mum allowed you to see in person. ❤️
Listening to Ella sing is uplifting. It's a privilege and a gift to hear and see her singing at this time, in a troubled world like ours. What a beautiful girl!
In almost 40 years of professionalism as a musician in Italy and Ireland, I must admit that this is the most beautiful Celtic piece I have ever heard in 57 years. Congratulations to Ella, the guitarist and the composer. Both beautiful and good. A hug; your delicacy moved me. Hello from Florence. Ciao.
My dad was a huge LoTR fan, reread the books multiple times. He died on New Years day of 2004 from a 4 year battle with Cancer. I remember seeing the first two movies with him, but he was too sick to see the last one, so he never got to see it-hearing this song made me sob my eyes out because all I could think about was him. Thank you for this beautiful rendition.
Your Father would have seen Return of The King in spirit, even if he couldn’t in theatres, and he would have said it was a masterpiece conclusion to the story. It reminds me of a story when my Uncle’s Dad who passed away probably around the same time as your Dad was taken to see the first one in 2001 after he had some back pain that made sitting for long periods difficult, and he wasn’t a keen Lord of The Rings fan so was looking at his watch continuously and was relieved at the credits thinking it was all over after 3 hours, only to be completely beside himself when told there were two more coming out in the next two years my Uncle and his wife wanted to see with him!! 😂 I hope your Dad is at peace now. ❤️
Is it even possible to listen to this song and not cry? Possibly the most beautiful piece of music I’ve ever heard. I think this is how Tolkien imagined the elves would sing. Thank you for gifting us a glimpse of the undying lands. If Valinor looks anything close to the way this sounds, it must be every bit as breathtaking as they say it is.
Only one word: "waw"! I do not think there is one song ever composed and performed so captivating, emotional and beautifully sung. A true gem! A million thanks to Annie Lennox, Fran Walsh, Howard Shore and Ella & Nick Roberts.
Anyone who says they didn’t cry watching this, lies. I felt like I was transported to Paradise. Utterly beautiful. RIP Ian Holm, may your journey to the White Havens be a peaceful one
What kind of a shit does one have to be to dislike this or any other song that is sung by Ms Ella, she not only hit the lotto gene pool in looks, but has been blessed by the gods in voice. Truly a proper lass.
Annie Lennox once said in an interview; "People are beautiful when they are sincere". At that time I didn't really comprehend it, but a couple of years later, it became clear to me. Seeing you two perform together, the words have never been truer to me. Thanks a lot for sharing.
With how 2020 has been so far, I think we all needed to hear this. I've been wanting Ella Roberts to do a cover of a LOTR song ever since I first heard her sing Loch Lomond. This was stunning. Thank you. Rest in Peace, Bilbo.
Not gonna lie when the final lord of the rings came out, my best friend and I would do a marathon every year of all three back to back and I love that song, but her voice makes it so much better I wanna go watch the trilogy now
"Here at last, dear friends, on the shores of the sea comes the end of our fellowship in Middle-Earth. Go in peace. I will not say: Do Not Weep; for not all tears are evil." - Gandalf
He was absolutely wonderful in the films as our beloved Bilbo and from the sounds of it it sound like he really had an enjoyable experience filming in New Zealand with the cast and crew!
@@garybeauchamp3623 the decision to cast lesser known actors in the roles actually helped make LOTR great, you saw the characters rather than the actors!
Her voice and the music are transcendent and connect you to something larger than yourself. The beauty of her voice and the music are incredibly beautiful and thank you for sharing this with us.
Beautiful rendition. The control of vowels is so beautiful and clear and the gentle but crisp clarity at the end of words and phrases is refreshing. Loved it!
“Superb” doesn’t do this justice. Your voice is athletic yet still sweet. You sang with tenderness and compassion and beauty- and tremendous skill (I sing, I know what this took) yet the skill level never overshadowed the sweetness and compassion in the song. Rich yet delicate, full yet ethereal. I guess this is what elves sound like. I do hope you cover more Tolkien songs.
Absolutely the best vocalist I’ve heard, her musicians are incredible as well. I discovered her a week ago and she is instantly at the top of my favorites.
I had tears streaming down my face listening to this. Your voice is other-worldly. You are an absolute treasure. I hope that when this is all over you will do a tour. If you don't come to Edinburgh I'll take it personally :')
I appreciate your work. rather than trying to mass produce content every day or week you produce quality art. this is what the world needs. take your time and do things right. thanks
My fellow Games workshop colleges were there when they laid down the the very last track on the movies. It will be a memory I will never forget, sat in a studio with Howard shore PJ and Fran walsh, tears streaming from our eyes, as PJ turned to Fran and said... "well thats it .. its done'
The voice of an angel I thought no one could compete with Lisa Kelly but your voice and range for Celtic arrangements is wonderful my heart melts to that ethereal distant land that your voice promotes. Really world class voice xx
Another EXCELLENT rendition from a very skilled & talented songstress. Well done and very crafted delivery. As aproduction company, we are very impressed, as usual Ella. Thank You.
Wow... I thought the original was powerful. You took it up to a new level with this soulful power to your voice that resonance the emotion expressed. I am blown away.
Ah the news that Ian Holm passed away never reached me, this came as a surprise to me. Other than that, your voice fits this song very well and I like how you made your own version of this. The instruments all together in the last chorus and how you make it sound smaller afterwards really got to me. Goosebumps.
Such a beautiful cover of this song, and so hard for me to listen to without tearing up: this is my "goodbye" song to a beautiful snow-white kitty we had and lost to cancer. Two years later I still have a hard time listening to this recording.
I'm so glad that Ian Holm is honored so much. There are certainly thousands who say goodbye to him in their own way. He will have many hearts that think of him and so much that will remind of him. I think "into the west" from you was what we all wanted to give him on the way. I'm sure he hears it, maybe sitting there and blowing smoke rings into the air, remembering how it was here on earth. As Gandalf said, he is now on another adventure, with all the blessings he could ever have!
I have heard a great many covers of this piece. Yours is by far the most beautiful. The way you hit those peak notes without breaking o being harsh on the ears. Absolutely superb 💕 Ian Holmes would be proud of this
I figured now I would finally comment, as I sat there listening to this on Spotify for the hundredth or so time I realized I had not yet done so! Ella, you bring a magic to this already magical song that has made it so I can only listen to this version. It's like an elf born in the undying lands themselves is singing this to comfort a loved one at the untimely loss of someone dear to them. Tolkien's world inspires such awe and such wonder and your vocals and delivery of this do it the utmost justice. It's been 4 1/2 years since it was posted but still, thank you for recording it!
Ella Roberts is always a joy to hear and see she has natural talent she always gives her best which is as it should be because she is very special happiness and long life Ella
I've come across this twice in the last few years.... I've cried twice... The music. The vocals. Every bit of this production scares me. No one should have this much power. Magnficent.
Okay, I have heard so many try this and just can't beat, or come close to Annie. You now are my favorite! Far above anyone else I have heard do this song! Excellent! I hope I go to iTunes and find this video to buy.
Magical voice!! I know that creating a song is a difficult job..but i would LOVE so much more frequent music videos of her! Please we need more good music!! Good day/evening to all!
Stunningly beautiful! I hadn't even known that Sir Holm had passed. This rendition does him great honor. I spent my misspent youth buried in the Tolkein books, and have never (thankfully) gotten beyond that. RIP all involved.
How Beautiful, that brought back memories for me of the ‘Hobbit’ what a tremendous actor he was! Ella has one of the Crystal Clearest voices I have ever heard, I made a comment on the Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond Video some weeks ago, it fitted perfectly with my rather sad story, thank you 🙏 Ella for sharing your amazing talent 🥀.
Ian Holm was a wonderful choice for Bilbo and actually brought him to newfound recognition to younger audiences after doing Alien, Brazil and The Fifth Element! I particularly like the “Concerning Hobbits” scene in the Extended Cut of The Fellowship of The Ring where he’s writing his memoir “There and Back Again: A Hobbit’s Tale” and musing and chuckling about the peculiarities and the nobility of the hobbits.
My Mother just passed away. For the last 11 years, I have taken care of her, I need to find 'my new adventure'! :-( What will I do now! I Love you Mom, please Rest In Peace. Even now Mom, I will TRY, to make you proud of me. I am. the last of my family. Dad died in 2000, my younger brother died in 2010 which hit me rather HARD!! And now my Mom.
