  • Silicon Valley startup Impossible Foods debuts its long-awaited meat-free burger that looks-and bleeds-just like beef to the public, live on MUNCHIES. Pat O. Brown, CEO and founder of Impossible Foods, was joined by Momofuku founder and chef David Chang-along with Matt Rudofker, executive chef of Momofuku Ssäm Bar, and host Charlet Duboc-to cook the burger to juicy perfection in the MUNCHIES kitchen. Chang also announces that, starting today, the Impossible Foods burger is now available on the menu at Momofuku Nishi in Manhattan. It's a delicious, umami-rich win for meat-lovers and vegetarians alike who want burgers that help, not harm, the environment.

      Fucking thank you. I was hoping I wasn;t the only one that noticed that. I have watched a few of these so far and it seems like the people they send out to interview the proprietors of these places are dumb as fuck. She actually asked them if the mission of their entire company, named Impossible FOODS, that they invested in and that a couple of them quit their jobs over to start, was to make that one burger taste marginally more like meat than other substitute products.. She asked what made it taste like meat twice within like 2 minutes of each other. She asked them if they tricked people into eating it at their respected establishment like that's a thing restaurants do is trick people into eating things they might be allergic to. Watch the Mammoth meat one on here. The guy in that pretty much does the same shit. Either asks stupid fucking questions, asks the same questions over and over again, or a combination of both.

      The Impossible Burger is made from simple things you know, like wheat, coconut oil, and potato protein, along with one you might not know, but should - heme. We discovered that heme is the “magic ingredient” that makes meat look, cook, and taste gloriously meaty. While heme is exceptionally abundant in meat, it’s a basic building block of life on Earth, including plants. So we use a plant heme protein to give our burger its amazing meaty flavor.
      Full Ingredient List:
      Water, Textured Wheat Protein, Coconut Oil, Potato Protein, Natural Flavors, 2% or less of: Leghemoglobin (heme protein), Yeast Extract, Salt, Soy Protein Isolate, Konjac Gum, Xanthan Gum, Thiamin (Vitamin B1), Zinc, Niacin, Vitamin B6, Riboflavin (Vitamin B2), Vitamin B12.
      Contains:
      Soy, Wheat
      found on Impossible Foods's website. Your welcome.

      I'm a vegan too but this is bullshit, one big ad for their restaurant. They're giving no information at all on what this is made of other than "plants" with "heme". This is CLICK BAIT

      im pretty sure theyre going to be selling this burger all over the united states soon or at least I read something like that on the veg subreddit. this is kind of the proof of concept. Il be buying it in mass when they do. Theyve done tons of videos like this where they just go to a restraunt thats someone on the production staff is friends with or is 'hip' Im glad a vegetarian product is getting promoted. How is it click bait theyre very clear about what its about and the video falls right in line. The presentation is a bit poor but thats the people.

    I think people are bashing this without acknowledging how badly we need a meatless alternative to the burger patty. I am a meat eater though and through, but mass beef production and consumption is destroying our planet's environment in ways that are simply staggering. These guys are merely exploring the possibility that drastically reducing our beef consumption and giving up our love for burgers do not have to be mutually exclusive. If this technology can be made affordable and accessible we should all be in favor of it.
    And they didn't go in to ingredients because its proprietary. theyr fucking invented this shit. theyre not encouraging you to just go make this at home with a can of beans and some beet juice. it's not like any of you super dope youtube trolls are willing to divulge all your nuance and insight that goes into all your lit AF youtube comments. That's for you and you alone to know.

      Check out permaculture, it's a different approach to agriculture in which raising meat that isn't as bad for the environment and most of the water used for the animals gets reused and their food doesn't come from massive grain plantations which need much more water dew to evaporation.
      This meat is good as a cheap alternative to confinement meat of low quality, which is what we eat at fast-food chains. But it will never replace a good grass-fed steak.

    • @AnandTumurtogoo17
      @AnandTumurtogoo17 8 років тому +5

      Dude, raising cows costs more water, land, and other resources than planting, I don't know where you got your sources but they are all probably wrong. I love eating meat just as much as the other guy. But, you got a wake up raising meat is bad for environment then growing vegetables, even grassfed ones, you should see what grassfed cows eat and drink.

    • @franklinmichael671
      @franklinmichael671 8 років тому

      Dragon Saurus Im not living in dream land kid, when did I say that could replace the meat production of today? What we have to do is combine permaculture with eating less meat.

    • @Jayterra
      @Jayterra 8 років тому +1

      I think that the most likely and most possible solution will be a combination of all three.
      #1 less meat consumption per person
      #2 more and better meat alternatives
      #3 better ways of farming meat (and yes, permaulture is absolutely better than factory farming, it is less taxing on the environment and much more ethical)
      The reason why I eat a plant based diet is that I do not have access nor can I currently afford meat raised on permaculture farms, and even though it is better than most modern meat, it still does not avoid the the lives of innocent animals (who experience pain and have a will to live) are being taken without consent simply because I enjoy their taste.

      coolest thing ever!!! Honestly I don't really care what people eat as long as we stop factory farming animals (bad for planet and animals). Given that most people have no intention of giving up meat, this seems like an incredibly awesome alternative. (whether or not I would eat it myself is another question though, have not made up my mind yet).

    • @bastiat691
      @bastiat691 8 років тому +18

      What I was describing was the actual patty itself, apart from the tasty bun and toppings it was paired with. It smelt like a good quality beef patty, the texture was a little finer than normal ground beef, but not by much, it breaks apart in the mouth like you would expect a beef patty to, although it was definitely leaner, and appearance wise you can only tell it apart from normal beef when raw, but again, not by much. Will I crave it? Yes, watching this video I want to eat them. After meeting Pat and tasting the burger I asked if I could get care packages sent my way once a month, nothing yet though :p
      This isn't a joke, its the future guys.

      +grandalf although yeast extract does have glutamic acid, it is not exactly just msg. (1) not in its salt form and (2) most likely not artificially manufactured (3) it's not just glutamic acid. Not that (2) matters, as artificial or not, the molecule is completely benign. Also the glutamic acid is only a small component of the yeast's intercellular components. If you eat veggemite that's essentially yeast extract. Nothing to be critical of.

    The comment section here really shows how short people's attention span can be and how behind the times so many still are to the delicious sustainable food revolution happening around the world right now. A change that needs to happen. I agree that the presentation could have been better and much shorter, the interviewer chick is pretty dense and the science a little too heavy but still this is huge news guys! Even though this video doesn't effectively convey the excitement food life this is going to change the world in a very positive way!

    For a video about a possible massive breakthrough, with (usually) very animated personalities, this was a little hard to watch. Uncomfortable, awkward, and that strange nervous feeling that they are trying keep a secret. Obviously, no one wants to come right out and give away a recipe on something that could make them a butt-load of cash. But, either tell us what's up or keep it locked up in your underground bunker. "So what is the burger made of" followed by a few glances and nervous laughter.

      Is that why people end up in the hospital or even die from being "vegan" due to lack of nutrition? Iron, zinc, and other metallic substances we need in our bodies are almost completely out of the vegan diet(s). I'm basically saying if we can't have a balanced diet, we'll become malnourished and even worse, die from it.

    To make the synthetic blood,The DNA that from the plant that creates heme was spliced into yeast so it can be produced in mass quantities easier. The "heme" in most plants is very small so this yeast produces it a lot compared to its weight. The synthetic blood is what's clever

    What's the point of being vegan/vegetarian if you're creating stuff that is so meat-like it bleeds?
    The point should be to eat things that are as far away from the look, taste or feel of meat, as possible.

    • @dootsey
      @dootsey 8 років тому +1

      Because a lot of the population loves meat. So this is an awesome alternative, especially if they miss that part of their diet to the point of not stepping towards being vegetarian/vegan at all.

    • @pjr7613
      @pjr7613 8 років тому +1

      There are a lot of people who like meat but are vegetarian for environmental/sustainability purposes, as well as having problems with modern factory farms where animals are treated horribly. This type of thing isn't going to replace meat, but it's one step closer to breaking down those barriers for people who care about certain issues that go further than just diet/health.

    • @ChickenYale
      @ChickenYale 8 років тому

      Just because someone is vegan, doesn't mean they are obligated to eat this junk food.
      I personally rarely eat veggie burgers.
      But I never eat fake meat, it reminds me of the real thing and I get grossed out.
      These plant based sausages, burgers, fake meat are meant for people who are used to eating meat and but want to go veg.
      Btw I eat whole foods, fruits vegetables, nuts, grains, and legumes.

    • @pjr7613
      @pjr7613 8 років тому +2

      +OSMxLOBBIES That wasn't really my point. You eat what you want. I know I've thought of going vegetarian for environmental reasons but been held back by giving up things like burgers. My point was that if there were better substitutes out there, more on-the-fence people might make the switch. Maybe this isn't the best substitute possible, but it's a start, and it means that better ones are on the way.

    • @Ardaaldemir
      @Ardaaldemir 6 років тому

      Lots of vegan and vegetarian people like the taste of meat. The point of going vegan is to not harm innocent sentient beings. Vegans can eat what the fuck they want in any form and taste as long as it doesn't hurt animals
