Whenever I click on videos from this channel I dive straight into the comments so I can see what locals of the city have to say. These channels are notorious for trying to hype up random places in a city
Having lived in Chicago for 4 months in 2016 I ate here a couple of times and it's actually not bad. Nothing to write home about and yes the burgers are thin, but I always got the triple burger to satisfy my cravings and it's pretty good. What I liked most was the atmosphere, this sort of greasy spoon bar under the street in downtown. Just a nice place to relax and have a drink, a burger and no fries, chips.

It's an overhype old establishment with average food that got hyped a lot because some public figure apparently ate there once.. you can easily find a better burger joint elsewhere that will never be covered here because no one famous ever eat there

That’s a good point. Natural in the food industry means the product doesn’t contain any filler, flavoring, colors, chemicals, or preservatives, and that it’s only minimally processed. It’s possible to have meat that has some of these things and that would not be able to be called “natural” meat.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen one of these videos that made me so profoundly indifferent about the place they were profiling. It looks like an unexceptional, cheap cheeseburger on a too-big bun. The lengths they go to sell this place as worthy of bring profiled are comic. The beef is “all-natural”! Wow, since there is no such thing as artificial beef that’s a real accomplishment.
The label "all-natural" means that there is no filler meat. Some places uses patties that are a mix of beef and something else and hence are not "all-natural".
the point still stands, it is hard to find those kind of shops nowadays. having said that word doesn’t mean he have to forced himself eating and drinking only at classical place. i’m sorry you develop a hatred towards modern coffee place, hopes you’re doing better.
The Billy Goat Tavern was great because of the bar where you could find iconic Chicago reporters from both the Tribune and Sun-Times hanging out and arguing about everything. That was what made the place iconic. The food was made famous by SNL but the food is nothing special. It's all about what has now become a tourist trap restaurant. However, if you sit and drink at the bar like a regular, odds are you'll meet some actual Chicago personalities.
There are no more Chicago personalities. Studs and Royko are pining for the fjords. There's like a Roeper guy, Royko bullied him and he needed years of therapy. I don't think he eats burgers. The burger is OK. You can load up on pickles and onions. You can get Berghoff's dark at the bar, or at least you could when I went there for lunch in the early aughts. It wasn't a bad combination. Iconic? Legendary? Nah. A fairly tasty burger with a lot of pickles and onions and a nice dark beer. Not overpriced for the neighborhood. No celebrities, no personalities. It's not the worst experience you will have in your life, especially if you live in Chi.
These UA-cam Channels seem to be making shit up to sound hip. They do the same thing in NY and LA by handpicking a place and claiming it has some cultural legacy tied to the city when in fact most places didn't open up until 5 years ago.
I’m from the burbs and live in the city now. It’s definitely good, and locally iconic, but far from the best burger in town. Clearly too much bread for that.
I wouldn’t doubt its great, but I’m sick of these “traditional” mom and pop burger joints that don’t serve fries. Chips are NOT a good replacements. French fries are essential.

This burger looks like, when you run out of ground beef, after making several patties and simply just don't want to let that small amount of left over beef go to waste. And I'm from Chicago. Small cheval, Kuma's corner, and Jeffs red hots by the 6 corners are some of the best burgers I had.

I'm a volunteer tour guide in Chicago. Since the Pandemic has put a halt on my tours, I've done a lot of research. I went to Billy Goat Tavern and, honestly, it wasn't that bad. The place is definitely unique and has lots of history. The Burger itself, the "cheezeborgher" is tasty. It's not the best burger in the world, but it's definitely a Chicago must have, especially for visitors. It costs $6.69, which is cheap for being in the middle of downtown. I would give it an 8 out of 10.

For $20 you can buy this, a Chicago Style Hot Dog, and an Italian Beef in Downtown Chicago and still have change left. Of course, if you go outside Downtown, you're bound to find fatter and cheaper burger's, like the one's in Fatso's. But that's the case for all downtown reataurants.
"it wasn't that bad" is what you say after someone asks you how was the drive to your place threw 1 hour of traffic. They put 50 cents of meat and 20 cents of cheese people saying "oh its cheap!!!". The burger is OK. You can load up on pickles and onions. You can get Berghoff's dark at the bar, or at least you could when I went there for lunch in the early aughts. It wasn't a bad combination. Iconic? Legendary? Nah. A fairly tasty burger with a lot of pickles and onions and a nice dark beer. Not overpriced for the neighborhood. No celebrities, no personalities.
It's not the worst experience you will have in your life, especially if you live in Chi.

I'm a volunteer tour guide in Chicago. Since the Pandemic has put a halt on my tours, I've done a lot of research. I went to Billy Goat Tavern and, honestly, it wasn't that bad. The place is definitely unique and has lots of history. The Burger itself, the "cheezeborgher" is tasty. It's not the best burger in the world, but it's definitely a Chicago must have, especially for visitors. It costs $6.69, which is cheap for being in the middle of downtown. I would give it an 8 out of 10.
If $6.69 is cheap for a paper thin burger with a huge bun, I’d hate to see what Chicago joints charge for a real burger.

For $20 you can buy this, a Chicago Style Hot Dog, and an Italian Beef in Downtown Chicago and still have change left. Of course, if you go outside Downtown, you're bound to find fatter and cheaper burger's, like the one's in Fatso's. But that's the case for all downtown reataurants.
