Perfect timing. Getting ready to start ocean beach scene and really having trouble figuring out what I want to do with sky. Looking at other paintings and photos of ocean skies and I can see that they are different than other skies.

Hi Eric, Hi LIsa Question, when you blend your pastels, doesn't it crush the crystals ? Is there a danger to get muddy easily ? thank you Have a great day... thanks for sharing, Eric these days Pastels, but at first it was oils, acrylics, watercolor, now I do all but oils when I can outside. Use to paint oils in the summer outside. Now, Pastels, acrylics, watercolors. Thank you Laurentians, Qc, Canada

I wish Lisa had talked more about exactly how she frames her pastel painting without a mat (spacers? sandwiched between glass and foamcore board?). I'd also appreciate winning a digital copy of Eric's book.

I loved this lesson. That horizon line creates a lot of depth. I don’t understand the complaints about focusing on the water. This was lovely!

So, this is not about skies at all.....? Am I right in thinking she sort of re-worded this to say it was about skies over water and then divulged it is the colours reflected in the water that is the trick? Whilst I understand the principle, I am not sure why she said she was concentrating on the sky.....? Regardless, it was an interesting lesson. Not a pastel person, but always interesting to see a top artist at work, regardless the medium. Thanks.

It's mostly about skies as you can see as I develop the painting and the water supports our dynamic drama filled sky. Our surf below will have pieces of the sky reflected in it to really harmonize our whole painting.
