@theprospectinggeologist4347 I look forward to it! I'm from CT and been mining out west for years. Figured it's time to find a good spot to dredge on this side of the country! Been keeping an eye on what to expect.
I really appreciate the detailed walkthrough! I grew up just a few miles from the Uwharrie area you were looking at, kinda cool to see road names I recognized in a random video on UA-cam. 😄
Thanks! I need do an updated version of this video! Check out the CalTopo app, it has Lidar and trails and a bunch of other stuff built in and covers uwharrie.
Great Video. I just found out that Utah finally has Lidar data available. I'm wondering if I could send you a file to look at. Could you point out any potential anomalies you might see so I have a better idea what areas to go inspect?
I can do a quick analysis of a location for $25. Or I’m thinking of offering a UA-cam membership where that would be one of the perks. Not sure what the best way is. Thanks.
You are amazing! I live in North Carolina and while tilling my garden I found amazing archaeological finds. I first found an arrowhead. So, that was exciting then I thought to myself "Girl, GET A SHOVEL" . I found Native American pottery, beads and what looks like a cut off braided lock of hair. Also there were pieces of red garnets. Thank you for posting this video! I love Archeology "SUBSCRIBED"
Hello there, I'm a new subscriber and I purchased a lidar of the AZ GPA claims and I'm trying to figure out how to turn the lid around off and on. I think it's just something simple but sometimes simple can be complicated for me. Thank you
Hi mate! I found your video very helpful for us here in Philippines. I'm very interested to know more about LIDAR. We have locations that need confirmations.
With this scan .can it be found and scan metals special gold underground?and how much the deep scan underground ..and can find caves and old rooms underground...im from jordan.
I like your channel and I just subscribe tonight, I've been using lidar for places that I go in the Midwest for about seven years. I haven't watched your full video yet you might be using this but like I say I haven't watched your full video yet. Over where you're at do you use soil typing, I have a soil map that's for the whole United States and i use it here in the Midwest to tell me if the creeks that I go to have glacial till in the surrounding hills. And or if the creek or rivers I go to are running through a moraine. I feel it increases my odds of hitting good gold.
The raw data is available out there for free, but it must be processed and rendered in a few different programs to turn it into what you see in the video. I do make them for people for a fee, and ive also made a video on how to make them yourself if you want to give that a try. Below is the link to how to make them yourself ua-cam.com/video/0Hy2phFsrhI/v-deo.html?sub_confirmation=1
Great information. I searched for two day on this subject. I found yours and a few other ones. And, I like yours the best. I sent your link to my friend BJ Crow, and BJ informed me that you and he are friends. I always say that God looks out for fools and children, so I have double coverage. BJ will contact you about getting some info. I look forward to using your information and getting prints from you.
I followed your instructions to pull up the Lidar image of Island creek mine. I downloaded the mrds data and the xml file which opened google earth...Mine locations show...however there is no lidar image when I click on the mine location. Layers are turned on in my google earth. I can obtain info about the mine locations but no Lidar image. Did you download some other layers or data prior to opening the MRDS data?
Sorry if it wasnt clear. The lidar maps are something i make from raw lidar data, they are not availaible through the MRDS system. The MRDS system just gives you mine locations an information.
i thought about taking a class in ArcGIS. software is expensive...any recommendations for software for making Lidar? I know about the national map and distance elevation data. Im an old geology instructor in North Carolina
Wow! That LIDAR is a great tool!! I was trying to find stuff with Google Earth, and this is just so much clearer. A couple questions if you don't mind? I believe you indicated that you googled a KML file for the trail map onto the LIDAR map. Is that correct? Or, was there a KML file of the trail maps in the MRDS and you just downloaded the overlay? Kudos to you!!
The trail map was a separate kml file that I found online, it was not from the MRDS. Google.earth is a fantastic tool and you can find overlays for it for almost anything you can think of.
@@theprospectinggeologist4347 you know, I just realized. There's a lot more to this than I thought, right? Don't I have to convert the LIDAR data to an actual map, before I can actually make LIDAR maps? If so, then I need to sit down and figure this out. That said, I'm driving down to North Carolina slate belt to look for some properties for an early retirement (pseudo retirement) in about 2 weeks, which won't give me the time to figure this all out. How much would you charge to create the full LIDAR maps for Stanly, Montgomery, Moore, Randolph, Eastern Rowan, Southern Guilford and Eastern Cabarrus counties (also, the trail overlays for Uwharrie NF? I have been trying to find properties that were close to historical mining claims using Google Earth and a paper Gold Map. And, now that you have enlightened me to the inaccuracies of the non-LIDAR map locations, I may have more options!!! You can email me at ebnk15@gmail.com Thanks!!
Can you point us to some resources for figuring out how to set these Lidar maps us ourselves? I'm a 3d artist, so the tools don't scare me, I just don't know the pipeline/workflow! Good job on this!
Hello I would like some help using this software for my current area and heard you could help me with that for a fee? I’m from Greensboro NC and just getting started and would love your help. Please give your price if available.

Awesome! Glad to have you! Currently we do daily shorts at 6pm and a weekly long format video on Saturday at 5p for the premiere.

Hey, do you Lidar map in Ontario Canada?
Great videos just wondering does LIDAR show buried items shapes looking for buried gold coins a hoard.
No it does not show buried items. It only shows the surface of the earth as if there were no vegetation.
@@theprospectinggeologist4347 thanks I guess GPR would be better for items but not so good for veins of gold.
@@notommr Just depends on the geology and the depth to said item. But you are correct GPR is not really used for gold exploration.

No Lidar only shows you the bare earth ground surface as of there were no vegetation.
