At last! I did take the tank out for a spin and what a spin!! The tank is capable of going over branches, stones, cliffs, I'm genuinely surprised of how well it performed on the field. After last video I swapped the two VESCs for an Odrive with one encoder for each motor and that made a huge difference on the low speed torque of the motors. I haven't mastered the Odrive yet so I had to reset it a few times during the test but this test has demonstrated that those motors are powerful enough. I may even add an extra reduction step in the future just to be able to pull things or maybe use it to remove snow. Please leave in the comments what you think I should be adding next to the tank as it will probably take a bit of time until you see this tank again on the channel. Enjoy!!

One of the things on my list is shielding the motor compartment and battery, yes
@@ivanmirandawastaken 4 latches on each side and 2 at the front would lock the lid down tight and reduce the flexing. A single lever latching system usable from outside and in would be very cool. Perhaps copy the latches used on the Apollo capsules? The 3D files are free downloads from NASA. They're neat things, move a roller tipped arm at right angles to the actuation motion.
I feel that perhaps a helmet should be used here, for extra safety anyway.

a 3d Printer with a multi extrusion setup would help with grip as you can print both in PLA/ABS on one head and a rubberized ninja Flex to add grip in a thin strip on each tread linkage, and a brass powder infused filament might help with its durability. just a thought. OMG I just realized that your tank looks like a diesel train engine on tracks. Pacifically it looks like diesel 10 from Thomas the tank cartoons. Diesel 10 is a villainous diesel engine with a roof top hydraulic grabber or claw which is nicknamed Pinchy. He is ochre colored with white hazard stripes and is known to be mean, devious and is despised by the steam engines. Thomas gives him a 10 out of 10, for devious deeds and brutal strength! Tanks!
The boardwalk in Wild Wood New Jersey has these floating battle tanks that look similar to this. They seat 2 people. One person drives and the other person shoots the yellow balls.
You can pay to drive on of the floating tanks, or pay to use o n of the many guns surrounding the giant water tank.
Each tank has two targets on it. And randomly scattered hanging above the water are missiles. And if you hit one of the targets on the tank, while the tank is below one of the missiles, a giant water explosion happens and the tankers get all wet.
I begged my parents to go in a tank when I was only 6 or 7 years old, but I couldn't drive, only shoot. So my dad paid the $20 ( which back in the 80's, was a lot of money ) so he could drive and I could shoot. But when we got onto the field, we got hit and water started coming I to the tank and I started screaming (BECAUSE THEY LOCK YOU IN THE TANK!!!) because I was sooo scared.
I felt so bad because I was screaming/crying the entire time he drove the tank back to the station, lol.
We need a Railgun inside!!! 😲😂👍🏻
Wow, that thing is powerfull! I was sure that the driveline would break somewhere when you went on your little joyride but boy was I wrong.
Great video!
Might be worth considering adding an emergency stop button on the front and back. Runaway RC cars are nbd, but this is 125kg. Runaway tank never coming back... Runaway on a one way track...
Thought of that yes, it is on the list, I hope I do it before I need it
Great video! I've been making diy tanks for years, but always have some trouble with the transmission (worm gears wearing out, gears snapping, or even the entire gearbox being annihilated). Do you have any advice on making a strong gearbox? (use a worm gearbox, or a spur gearbox). Also, a suggestion is that instead of using a tall cover for the tank, you can make it have a lower profile by putting your upper body inside a turret, and your head stick out of the turret. This will lower the entire cover to make it look like a ww2 beast rather than a moving house or a kolohousenka
I wish i could afford the filament to make this, would absolutely bring it to my paintball field and convince them to let me use it for some special games XD
You’re probably going to need a comfortable seat and some cooling for those motors :-)
Well done Ivan, you really have made something VERY SPECIAL indeed!
Seriously amazing. I love your fun filled, break it till you make it attitude. Very inspiring.
Now. Take that thing through a fast food drive through :D
That's an idea...
It would be super cool if you scaled it up to have a turret with a nerf machine gun inside. That way it could have a commander/driver, and a gunner/loader!
The giggles that came from inside the tank were contagious.
It is an experience... 😅
When I get established at my own place I want to make one of these that meets all the rules and regulations of the airsoft fields. Also a speaker to blare some English folk punk or something else that is a mix of something old and new. Like Hungarian Dance no.5 metal version. Also camo+shark face=master piece. Haha.
You should put some sort of Inner lip or fingers on The front of the door so the door doesn't shift back-and-forth while driving specially if you plan on taking it off road I could see a finger design that bolts into existing holes that would make The lid significantly Strong When closed I can also see a latch being put in that will hold the door closed so it doesn't Rattle up-and-down While off roading Of course the latch would have to be somewhere you could reach it While inside These modifications I think would be very easy to incorporate I strongly suggest Putting fingers on it Or an inner lip specially if you plan on Putting a turret on top eventually The added weight would cause a lot more stress on the Hinge While driving I love what you do please keep up the good work You inspire me to continue making things I love 3-D printing I look forward to watching your videos to come
Regarding safety; what are your fail-save settings? it has to be at least both on the receiver on signal loss AND the esc on receiver failure. With the weight and power of this thing it can injury people if it goes out of control and hits someone. You should also add a "battery disconnect" that is accessible from the outside like a connector that can be unplugged. And think of mounting a fire extinguisher on the back outside (also looks cool).
This is awesome. It's a real vehicle! A 3D printable vehicle you could actually download and build. Simply amazing. To improve, it, I think you need a metal planetary reductive gear drive to add torque. You got plenty of speed from those huge motors, but torque is a bit of a challenge. With both high input speed and higher output torque you can actually achieve more speed with less strain on your motors. RC helicopters usually use a reduction gear ratio so the tiny motors can rotate the large rotor more easily. This allows them to achieve more speed with less strain, thus achieving high thrust.
honestly i love this design since it has so many features found in real world tanks that were never to my knowledge put together. like the suspension system looks a lot like the sherman hvss suspension, but it can turn on the spot like late ww2 German tanks such as the tiger and panther and the fender design reminds me a lot of the king tiger. something really interesting about your design is its similarities to the German Elefant which was rear sprocket drive and had 2 sets of sprockets with no return rollers. overall i love this project and i would love to see its future developments
Ivan:"now we can plough the forest'
Forest: NYAHHHH
Depending on what you do for the "cannon" it might have room that you could sit up inside the turret. Would be far more comfortable im sure.
Or a hatch so you can sit up through or lay down depending on the situation.
Who ever sells this guy red filament is a very happy person lol
Holy smokes that thing is enourmous. I'd think the tank will not bear the load of you in it AND going offroad, with oud breaking a few parts, but it migth be worth a try to identify the weak spots.
I think it'll hold me well, It is only one third of the weight extra. I'll have to test it to prove you wrong Clemens 😉
The bogeys seem to not depress far enough for the tracks slack, making it so the track loses friction with the ground. Its really cool to see you make "mistakes" that were made in real tanks from ww1 and 2. Means you are actually problemsolving and engineering.
Looking good so far 👍. If you want to ride that thing off road you'll need roller guides on your rollers and Treads, (little spikes on the inside of the tread to keep them in place) so they don't slip off the middle of the tread, and a more active and staut tread tensioning system.
Congrats on getting this beast up and running!! I've been following this series since the start. It is such an impressive display of engineering and problem solving. Keep up the good work!
I can't wait to see you go offroad inside of it. The trick is pushing it until it breaks then fix it up stronger than it was.
2020: 3d printing a tank

This would take things like laser tag or paint ball to the next level! Very neat project.
Can't help noticing that you have the chassis protrude beyond the active surface of the tracks, front and back. We've been over this years ago, Ivan. They *will* catch on terrain when climbing.
That is one of the coolest prints I have seen yet! Two words: STEALTH Tank
World of Tanks needs to put Ivan's tank into the game!!!
Yes!
You should add drive sprockets since real tanks use them and it may help boost the speed of the tank. But it may also put more stress on the the tracks themselves too. Something to think about.
Great Job. I'm surprised by how much less traction it gets when you are inside, but it looks like you have good power. On RC car prints I've done, I used either bicycle tubes or bicycle rim liners cut into a circumference and glued around the contact patch. You could use self-tapping screws on each tread section to hold it in place, heating while screwing it in to get a really good hold down. It would be time consuming, however, it would look awesome and be very functional.
Imagine the same thing with a metal 3D printer ...
I can see your future....I see a passenger drone with 3D printined outer shell coming soon!💪💯😀
The one complaint i have with this is that the tracks are smooth as hell, so your traction in dirt is lower than what it would be if you had treads on your tracks. It would also provide extra height to get over small obstacles
Everyone gangsta until you see a man riding a giant rc tank

Maybe you should add a couple latching mechanisms in the front of the top part of the tank so it doesn’t wiggle so much.
It feels like you should give that tank a paint job. How would you paint it for a forest with red leafs? red camouflage should be very interesting.
Esto es simplemente épico, gran trabajo!
Gracias!
Go to local hardware store, get rubber floor mats, cut rubber floor mats into pieces that fit tracks, increase traction without adding much weight.
Where did you see lack of traction?
@@ivanmirandawastaken It just looked like the tracks were sliding/slipping on the ground. Could just be me, I'm not known to be very useful!
On the Tarmac it slides a bit but that's by design, so it can turn. Off road seemed grippy enough, It went up pretty big inclines, maybe is not appreciated on the video. For offroad grip improvement I'd redo the tread design to give it more bite. It was useful! 😉
So proud you've finally managed to get it to drive properly, it's been fun seeing it go from tiny tank to massive tank. Looks like it needs a magnetic catch or something to hold the top shut while driving, but i assume you were already thinking of that!
I see, you've printed an RC coffin lol
You need the Apache Helicopter setup, VR googles to a turret with your camera, so then you can see more around you.
