I finished the excavator at last! This thing is lots of fun and very fragile. I, again, went too far and this thing is too big for this kind of design. I recon I could try a different design using the blocks to make an excavator at this scale that doesn't "autodisintegrate".
The choice of using servos was on one side poorly made because they lack power and speed and in the other side poorly made because there's no feedback position so any minor distraction makes the thing implode. If I were to try again something similar I would probably use linear actuators (like the ones used in beds) and would wire endstops to stop the thing form harming itself.
I broke a few screws here and there but the screws are quite reliable even though the printing orientation is not the best.

It would be really cool if you had a public live cam overhead of your printer. It seems your printer probably never stops! I'd like to know how long it took to print all the parts for the tracks... that's a lot of pieces!

You know I think the only thing missing from his workshop now is his own 3D filament production or recycling system. It probably wouldn't be practical but it would be cool to see how Ivan would put something like that together

Man, you make this look so easy! I keep thinking "Man, I could do that!", then I take a second to consider the engineering and design that goes into a project like this. Seriously impressive!
For me it's the cost.

You should do a video on your recycling, and show us how you re-use all the excess plastic from your prints you don't use.

Ok, the tabbed "brim" like that, is an amazing idea. Something I will start trying out for my projects. :)
I strongly recommend trying to figure out how to make a slip-ring, so the top of the excavator can go all the way around. Otherwise - really cool!

Completely bonkers and ridiculously fun! Definitely need bigger continuous servos for the drive train, and a coarser acme thread for the bucket arm linear actuators to speed up movement there. Way too much fun and can't wait to see the go-cart. Thanks for sharing!

Ideas for a future project:
1. build a crane 🏗️ to lift projects off the work bench.
2. Build a workbench that can be lowered closer to the floor.
The amount of detail you put into these builds is really awesome, you made a screw driver to screw in the hardware you made, that is pretty great.
He made a custom funnel that integrates into the system... It's kinda insane.

With the ever increasing weight of projects it might be fun to design a hoist to lift and lower. I was thinking 2 ladders for the sides. Maybe on wheels so you won't need to move the table. Strong bar across the top, and a pulley system or manual hoist for lifting and lowering. Also, thick straps of course. Love to see what you come up with next.

You should make a video showing all the fails and mishaps of your projects to show the prototyping process, I think it would be neat.

Bravo! My only suggestion would be to use some silicone tape or Loctite to prevent your screw drop out issue. And perhaps a more powerful DC motor!

Super awesome and impressive! It seems like everything-red is your thing, but this would look infinitely better if you mixed in a second color like black or gray for some classes of components. At a minimum, all screws could be in the highlight color. And maybe something obscure like all exactly-4-length joiner pieces or something like that. It would not only look better, it would *really* help the features of the engineering standout.
For the loose parts, you could try tapering the threaded holes narrower at the bottom, so you get tighter friction/pressure on the last turn. A ridiculous alternative (and you seem like you're into ridiculous), is that you could make the equivalent of lock washer out of TPU - a thin, low-infill ring that compresses under the screw head.

it's awesome how there are a certain set of pieces
like the screws, blocks, and plates
which can all be assembled to create stuff like this
along with some specialized pieces like the wheel sprockets and gears
the threaded screw heads are also genius
and it all goes together so well
along with the fact that you can custom size all the pieces and print them out
also the different length screwdrivers and holes through both sides of the blocks allows for easy access
since you can put a screwdriver straight though
little quirks like that

You need to add little TPU pieces on the tracks to increase friction. Actual Lego tracked vehicles have it as well.
Your new construction system is a keeper I think.
It would be interesting to see how expensive it is to get some critical parts, like the screws, injection molded for extra strength.

I would like to see you make a tool for doing up all those screws as it seems hard work. Too much torque will strip the screws though

I get 2 of 20 words from this guy, but this build is pretty sweet.
For removing the screws at 8:00 I wonder if the tabs could be redesigned so a single swipe of a blade could release one side of an entire row. That would be faster than individually removing each screw.
Your idea is very creative, I like your work very much, you can try the ds600 one-handed remote control to control this machine, it will operate very well😀
On second thought, it's not too surprising that parts keep falling off, since single screws are easy to get to back out, with rotation or even just vibration forces... maybe some sort of thread-locker (glue is probably the wrong tool here, lock wire maybe?) would be a good idea for the go-kart
Or some kind of splitpen to lock the bolts.

I wonder how much heavier it would end up...
I'd bet 3x at least unless Ivan designs some thin sheet parts to make most of the structure solid - probably for versatility and lightness something like 2x3 and 3x5 ratio triangles with just holes along the edges and a few fixed beams across the thin middle parts. Even then I suspect it would not be really practical as that thing is already so heavy and it is all only made in PLA.

What an amazing construction set you have created! Like a cross between Lego and Meccano, the best of both worlds, so well done. It looks quite scalable too. On a smaller scale, that should go into production! If not you, then who? Patreon account, injection moulded themed kits, ... :-)
Make a shredder machine to shred all those failed parts and build/supports, and try making something with recycled parts, should be something accessible for you and you can make a series out of it, soled 3 videos. Shredder + filament extruder and printing new parts.

would you consider building an excavator out of the full size Miranda blocks I'm absolutely addicted to rc heavy machinery models and this is just got me foaming at the mouth for more please do a full size Miranda block one and a front end loader i would be so stoked to see those projects

How many hours did this take to print? And what printers did you use? Only your self-build ones or did you use other printers as well?
hey i may have an idea on how to make the 3d printed parts even stronger but it will need testing.
all you need to do is cover it in sand or salt then place it in a mini oven get it to the temp where it just starts to melt then let it cool. that should make the part solid.
could you give it a try and see if it helps your builds rigidity? it could maybe even help you save on the filament by making smaller but stronger parts and could help with the treads breaking like on the tank.
Would stepper motors be better for driving the treads? I guess servos don't require the additional control boards and they might have more torque.
