it's actually quite enjoyable to watch Phil do interviews back in the early 90s, before the drugs fucked him. he displays a lot of charisma and is quite articulate
really?? the guy is an angry prick every time we hear him and tragedy hasn't even struck yet. in Hindsight it was easy to see this band coming to a tragic end, their energy was fueled by anger and hatred

You have to realize the person who did that was sick. To try to convince that person that Dime was beautiful and the world was a better place with everything how it was, would be like telling someone with severe depression to just cheer up and stop being depressed, or to tell a psychopath to, I don't know, just be normal.
The last true balls out metal band. I’ve seen hundreds of concerts. Lived in Europe at the height of the NWOBH. Lived in the Bay Area during the Thrash heyday. Seen everything from Pink Floyd to Norwegian Black Metal. Nothing could fuck with Pantera live. Those dudes At their peak, untouchable. A true wrecking ball of pure testosterone and power. Glad I was there to watch it unfold and flourish. What a kickass time to live. While everybody was abandoning the Heavy Metal ship in favor of grunge and alternative, Pantera stepped up with a huge middle finger to all the weak ass trends. They had a no.1 album in the peak of the grunge/alternative scene. Tell me that ain’t badass?! Truly, fuck the world for all its worth, every inch of planet earth.....🤘🏻
Phil you are so right my man. A totally different phil in his past young days compared to his older mature self today. He is so sure with the drive and passion in the direction he's going. I miss those Pantera days, miss the 90's and was the best years for me in my early 20s to late 20's.
I love how Phil simply just ignores what Mike Muir said, because he knew they had it. They didn't have to gloat and expose that, they're this and that, acting like they are the most dope. They knew they had success. They believed in what they were doing and didn't have to answer to such silly statements, because they knew it was a dumb insult, and there was no need to fight back and cause a reaction that the media would eat up.

Ironically a lot of people said that about Suicidal when they came out with the album they were playing in the clip - that it was too commercial and they sold out. Personally I loved it.
It's funny watching interviews like this and seeing how articulate Phil really was at his best. He cultivated this image of tough guy, and he is, but at his core you can see he was very perceptive and very aware of what he was trying to do. People just get lost in the image.
Part of the reason why these guys got so far is not only because they were amazing musicians and helped revolutionize the genre (especially for guitar players), but also because the charisma. These guys are just regular partying dudes at the end of the day. They weren't as much troublesome, as much as they were just genuinely fun as fuck to be around, even just watching interviews or the home movies is so entertaining, they were and for the most part still continue to be legends!
i love when phil quotes lyrics from any of the albums like when he said "present tense works and lasts" here (obviously from a new level). its even cooler when he does it for songs that they havent written yet, like in one interview in like '90ish he said that the crowd takes them to "a new level of confidence and power"
