Imagine in Beethoven's time, audience used to listen to Haydn, Mozart and the first two symphonies of Beethoven, and they came across this grand symphony! It is the peak of western musical culture.
Yes yes yes this conductor and his players keep surprising me. I really feel that Beethoven himself would approve of how his music was interpreted. And the energy, which is by far the most important I believe. You can tell that these performers are not just playing for money or prestige, but are passionate; and that makes all the difference.
Tremendous performance. So much thought went into this interpretation. It's as exciting and inspiring as it is moving. Thielemann is firmly among the greats.
How refreshing to see a full-sized orchestra with 8 contrabasses playing this music ! None of that period instrument crap. You get the exposition repeat which you never see in a live performance, and the extra trumpet parts in the coda of the first movement. What more can you ask for? And of course the Vienna Philharmonic who can play this music conductor-less more or less.
I'm not a musical expert, but I loved this video. Most playings of this symphony are, in my opinion, rushed. This one was slower and not hurried . . . instead it was graceful and majestic. Plus, the video work was outstanding, IMO. Enjoy.
Me da mucho gusto la preocupacion christian por haceber hecho unas interpretaciones de beethoven no tan lejos de las directrizces que marco su compositor

It is said that the Vienna Philharmonic was a men's club and no women played in it. It cannot happen today and I don't know when this custom changed. Still, the number of women playing in this concert is far from as many as men. Actually, I can only see one in the first violin section. But what a performance and what an orchestra!
Several ppl have commented on the fact that there's only one female musician, myself included. It's really disappointing that one of the world's finest and most well-known orchestras still hires almost no women. There's nothing that justifies that!
@@annedwyer797It’s just a tradition. You see lots of orchestras where there are more women than men, why don’t you complaine those orchestras have too much women and less men?
It takes quite some time for the 3rd movt to arrive at its assigned key (namely, before it finally gets to E flat, there's some B flat, then F, B flat again, and only then, E flat)

There was ONE female musician in the violin section...very disappointing in the Vienna Phil. I read that it was their policy until the 1990s not to hire women, but that was 30 yrs ago, and a hugely outdated policy at the time. But here we are 30 yrs later, and only one women in the orchestra! 😖
It takes decades of practice and great skill to be part of the world's best classical orchestra. Most women aren't committed enough. But there was one woman in the orchestra that night.

My most favourite living conductor. These Beethoven symphonies performance will be a landmark in the recording history.
They're live. Studio is always preferable.
perhaps the best interpretation of this sublime piece of music.
i couldn't agree more, Thielemann using orchestra like Furtwängler back in days, continuous tone... a mast!!

I love Bernstein's series also. I have always loved the vpo and beethoven!
A pure joy to watch. Love Christian Thielemann and Vienna Philharmonic - the best of the best. Thank you for sharing❤
thielmann ist grosse klasse. danke.l
Love Thielemann! Thank you for posting.
The Viennese sound is such a treasure..maintaining the traditional methods of how they played from the 1800s..it sounds so compact and mystical!
This amazing music is written for any heroic person-Beethoven Symphony no.3-total genius.
Nice to see/hear the coda taken at a pace that the strings can actually physically play.
ok.ich sage erstmal Dankeschön, herr thielemann. mein Beethoven ist bei ihnen sehr gut aufgehoben. vielen dank. .
Grandios, es ist schwer die Qualität in Worte zu fassen

A commanding performance.
Most sensitive rendering of this profoundly revolutionary symphony
The development section of the 1st movt even has its own theme; it contributes a new theme to the movt
Excellent interpretation. Bravo!
