This symphony perks up the spirits and makes me feel life is wonderful. Such vibrancy and energy. Beethoven weaves brilliant strands of themes into a complex whole.
Reading "The Heart is a Lonely Hunter", by Carson McCullers: On Beethoven's Third- "For a minute the opening balanced from one side to the other. Like a walk or march. Like God strutting in the night." Upon reading this I had to find Beethoven's Third and relive it again, after so many years, and feel my heart soar!
Ever heard of the Duke of Wellington ? Ever heard of Mozart and Haydn, Bach and Handel, et al ? PS: In 1813 Beethoven neatly switched sides and celebrated the Duke of Wellington in his ‘Wellington’s Victory’ Opus 91.
@elaineblackhurst1509 He didn’t “neatly” switch sides. He was outraged, as were many, when Nappy declared himself an emperor and sold out his earlier republican ideals.
@@roberthill799 Beethoven did switch sides; musically, politically, and emotionally he moved away from the ideals of French revolutionism corrupted into Napoleonism into a better appreciation of the democratic ideals of Great Britain as a better way of modernising the absolutism still found across much of Europe - the evidence can be heard in virtually every note of Opus 91.
@@roberthill799 This, the Eroica was originally written for Napoleon but the name was changed. History isn't that simple, Napoleon was looked at as a revolutionary by some and a opressor by others. California, Texas, Nevada, Mexico and more would've had vastly different historic timelines were it not for Napoleon's wrath.
Brilliant Beethoven, the great genius from Bonn who never disappoints. The 3rd Symphony is mind-blowing and this is a superb performance by ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra and Michael Boder. To my ears the Austrian and German orchestras often seem a cut above some of the others, I think it is the quality of the string playing perhaps. The orchestra plays very well and of course you can't really go too far wrong with Beethoven. I do hope the conductor managed to catch his train though.
"The first public performance took place on April 7, 1805 and was conducted by Beethoven himself." Ah yes, I remember it well, & here I am listening to this treatment 79,982 days later.
I enjoyed this performance immensely. I particularly liked the tempo changes in the 2nd movement, which I'm not accustomed to. I've heard the old Toscanini performance most often.
I feel honored to be in the presence of these musicians. But the tempos are too quick. The second movement is done at such a rapid pace like everyone wants to just finish and get out of there. It should be more contemplative. I believe Carlo Maria Giulini's 1979 release is almost nine minutes longer but is spectacular. A performance for the ages. Next comes Klemperer's.
I totally agree. The opening itself in this performance is so lame. The second movement should be so elegant and majestic and not be played perfunctorily. Carlo Maria Giulini's approach in 1979 stands even today as the most outstanding reading. Eigen Jochum's version was not bad either.

Thank you, ardentspy, for breaking the general pattern and saying something original and worthwhile!
Another great second movement. Best movement in the piece.
"The first public performance took place on April 7, 1805 and was conducted by Beethoven himself." Ah yes, I remember it well, & here I am listening to this treatment 79,982 days later.
MARAVILLOSA Y interpretacion sunfonia n.3 heroica BEETHOVEN..Maria Jose Labori
Un DIRIJOR CU "O TRĂIRE MUZICALĂ SUPERBĂ".
This is amazing wow
오래만에 다시 듣는 데도 새로운 감흥이 나는 군요. ....Meet again , but more new feeling...
Fantastic! Der Dirigent ist unglublich gut~
Это классика на века.!!!!!!!
The performance will always vary between the different way each director feels a particular piece... The tempi show his personality!
Astonishing in every sense this performance truly is.
Good to know, Yoda.
Only Germans could have produced such music ! Thank God for them ! Indian Military Veterans
The music comes from The Big. Know it, with all respect.
Слушаешь и воспаряешь к Богу
Gracias.
that was frickin Awesome,,... 😀
If somebody changes , everybody change his own peculiar way . That is what we call : Symphony .
Me gusta bastante esta interpretación de esa obra maestra del maestro Ludwig.
I enjoyed this performance immensely. I particularly liked the tempo changes in the 2nd movement, which I'm not accustomed to. I've heard the old Toscanini performance most often.
❤
Quite a speedy funeral but I like it
the best beethoven
Having this play in the background while reading chapters of Nodame Cantabile is great 👍🏿
someone was so happy with the song that they tripped the microphone at the point 41:41😁😁
True😃
Enhorabuena por el vídeo.
Maybe they do want to get out of there - completely understandable.
I totally agree. The opening itself in this performance is so lame. The second movement should be so elegant and majestic and not be played perfunctorily. Carlo Maria Giulini's approach in 1979 stands even today as the most outstanding reading. Eigen Jochum's version was not bad either.
Un respiro a pieni polmoni. ☺️☺️
❤️Excellent
RIP Michael Boder.
- how many symphonies had Beethoven written?
- three: 3rd, 5th & 9th
Hervorragend.
Sad that we lost Herr Boder earlier this year.
