  • Digimon Dreamers completely shocked me, a series I THOUGHT was going to be a simple comedy manga for young kids. Little did I know it would provide more story and more unique concepts for the Digimon franchise than I'd ever imagined.
    How does it compare to the other Digimon narrative projects of the 2020s, Seekers, Survive, Ghost Game and Adventure Reboot? Should you read Digimon Dreamers? Watch to find out!

    I will say in regards for digimon seeker their not only a good unofficial translation of seekers but recent official chapters translation have actually got better to the point it looks like they listened to the criticism and actually did better with the translation at least from later chapter part of 1 onward

    High Level Programming Langauge typically means something like Java instead of something like Assembly; you'd actually be trading flexibility for accessibility.
    Which as magic is a form of reality warping also makes a weird amount of sense.

    Glad to see you covering Digimon manga content, DigiKnow! I don't know if you've read the Appmon or Xros Wars mangas yet, but those two are also pretty good. The Xros Wars manga in particular has such a good narrative. Bagramon gets such a massive glow-up in it where he's an interesting villain with actual motives compared to his anime counterpart, and Taiki feels like an actual character with a personality in it too (and so do several other characters). Please check either of them out too!
    Maybe there will a Ghost Game manga down the line where it's better than the actual show just like the Xros Wars manga was. That's probably only a pipe dream, but I'm allowed to have hope.

    Funnily enough, a high level programming language is actually something that would be a lot easier for the average person to understand. It just means that it’s made to be more abstracted from machine language, and more similar to how people speak and write.

    So prior to reading the official translation, I knew wizardmon and a teased future villain would be in it, however did not expect witcheny to be brought up. Digimon dreamers feels like a love letter to fans were as Seekers here is series for normies and new people. The early chapters did give me a laugh and I am looking forward to more. Hopefully after the 21 chapters are adapted they will do a physical release for America like in Japan.

    Huh, how very interesting, honestly I can understand your experience with this Manga, there have been times when a Manga, that I thought would be one way throughout, ended up developing into something way more interesting than I initially expected and i really like that kind of Series, really make it feel like progression is being made, in some way.
    Anyway, this makes me wonder, what Digimon Manga would you really like to see an adaptation for?

  • @SacrificAbominat

    Sounds interesting I'll check it out. Yeah Ghost Game disappointed with the overall plot but I did enjoy the individual episodes as they did have some interesting things with Digimon being Yokai. I just hope the next show isn't episodic and actually does more with it's main cast than Ghost Game did. Maybe a follow up since Ghost Game did leave on a bit of a cliffhanger which could be capitalized on with a sequel show.
    I just got Survive so I'll check that out soon, and I should get back to Cybersleuth at some point as well.

    Honestly what I really love about this take is how out of sync Ritsu and Pal (Yeah Pulsemon goes by that name) are. They rarely have anything in common and Ritsu is just a poor introvert who's stuck with the absolutely in your face extrovert that is Pal. I will say the Bulkmon evolution joke is getting a little overdone by Ch19 at this point but I never tire of Pal just dragging Ritsu along his path kicking and screaming. Ritsu just under half the time gets invested typically when it gets serious so he doesn't fall too deep into the "Why me" whiny pitfall some in his character archetype can trip into. Ritsu absolutely cares about Pal but shares none of what Pal wants. Pal wants adventure and to get stronger like a typical shonen MC, and Ritsu would just be happy relaxing in the village with the other baby digimon from time to time instead of doing anything dangerous.
    It's honestly a really refreshing relationship and his potential character development could succeed where I felt Kiyoshiro failed. Joe is possibly set as the ideal that Pal would want Ritsu to be while Ritsu wouldn't see it that way. I'm curious how their wildly different desires and opposite personalities co-exist in the future. It also really goes to show at least to me that light or dark it really doesn't matter which to choose and either can work or fail. The length per chapter might hurt the pacing a bit but it's a worthy trade off for consistency. It also works in this format with just one tamer and partner so the shortened length doesn't end up sidelining anyone important.

    What's really let me down about Digimon is what was a series that I had started to move in the right direction in terms of including women and seemingly even potentially some queerness from the original Cyber Sleuth [Hackers Memory really did try and dig some dirt in that] now seems to have shifted totally towards being a boys series for boys. Every single manga and anime protag has a male protag, the last two games have had a locked in male protagonist, the series seems to be pretty convinced it's a boys only franchise with a token 1/3 of ghost games cast getting to be women being the most we've gotten in a while.

    • @thedigiknow

      Very great criticism! Mamoru Hosoda (who did Digimon Our War Game before creating his own films) has proven over and over you can tell big fantasy stories like this with women at the forefront (Belle, Summer Wars, etc)

    • @TheDiscoGenre
      @TheDiscoGenre 9 місяців тому +1

      Digimon is Tamagotchi for boys; there's almost no real need for a female MC, unless the character is as bland as Taiki and 2020 Taichi, and you need a meatshield for blandness.

  • @Matiasfv

    It's a shame that digimon can still tell compelling stories everywhere except the anime.
    We have seekers now getting really interesting, dreamers that was a surprise how fun it is and survive with its dark and yet the most digimon anime like story told in years, while in the actual anime we get stories that could've been so much better. It's a bit frustrating.
    At least in the movies you can see they are still trying.I can't wait for the 02 movie and a new season with a writer with passion for the franchise and its potential for storytelling, I still have faith eventually we'll get a really good anime season.

    I think the bottom line for future digimon anime is for the writers to not give a darn for the modern generation who prefers shorts such as tiktok and youtube shorts. Modern generation are bad demographics to be audiences for anime and they are destroying the industry because of it. What they deserve is to have a Digimon series with a large overarching story with dark themes that heavily tests the characters into their head and it will not matter if they like it or not. Of course when it's a manga, the mangaka themselves have free reign so there is no real audience to target for. In better terms, kids are not stupid so don't treat them like they are even though a lot of adults nowadays have practically became karens.
    Speaking of though, I haven't touched it for a long time but does the idea of in a Ghost Game Alternate Universe which I had worked on as a bit of a fanfiction hobby where Hiro abandons his friends and heads to the Digital World alone after unleashing Regulusmon after destroying bridges between humans and Digimon in the human world sound appealing? There is already context behind this but I just want to hear thoughts and how you think comes to be?

  • @kirarakidohara1423

    What is with Digimon Tamers fans' inability to compliment Tamers without insulting other fans' favorite series? Insulting other shows to prop up your favorite show just makes it look like you have nothing good to say about your favorite show, so you have to bash other people's favorite to make yours look good by comparison.

    • @thedigiknow
      @thedigiknow  9 місяців тому +2

      If you're referring to the Tamers to Fusion comment, it is a massive reach to say I'm "insulting" anybody's favourite series. There is a clear scale of darkness from those two shows with Fusion overally being a much lighter story. I never said lighter is worse, by the way.

    • @TheDiscoGenre
      @TheDiscoGenre 9 місяців тому +1

      Xros Wars/Fusion is easy to dunk on because its a combination of early Appmon levels of kiddy and Adventure 2020's spectacle over substance and MC wank (Taiki is basically 2020 Taichi and Shoutmon is 2020 Mimi but actually relevant)
