Because Agumon and the others are technically not "Digimon" in Digimon Survive the term Evolution is used instead of Digivolution.
While taking part in an extracurricular, history studies camping trip, Momotsuka Takuma visited a shrine that performed rituals surrounding the "Kemonogami" from a local belief that was passed down in the region, along with his friend, Hyuga Minoru, and Shibuya Aoi, who is a year older than them and from a different school.
The legend of the Kemonogami dates back to the Kamakura period. It is said that a powerful clan from that period borrowed the power of a beast-like god that resided in the mountains, and although they became prosperous, they incurred its wrath and were wiped out. The locals who feared the wrath of the "Kemonogami" used to offer their children as sacrifices to it. Although that tale was from long ago, the shrine is still used for rituals in the region, and it is said that when children enter it, they end up being "spirited away".
The shrine was shrouded in fog, and an eerie presence drifted about as if it were otherworldly. The group split up to investigate the shrine, and a creature appeared before Takuma from out of the grass.
The creature introduced itself as "Koromon", and said that it felt like it knew Takuma from the past. Although he was confused by Koromon, a scream from his friends caused him to come back to his senses.
As Takuma rushed ahead, they were attacked by a monster different from Koromon. And then, the youths were engulfed by the fog around them as they ran about desperately trying to escape.
They went astray in the world of this fading legend...
Having strayed off into another world, the youths were faced with new encounters and an imminent crisis!
While driving back the monster that chased after him with the help of Agumon, who evolved from Koromon, Takuma, who was surrounded by fog and had been separated from his friends, joined back up with Minoru, Aoi and they arrived at a school building that was somehow the camp's lodging facility.
However, they were surprised to see the school building. It was covered with vegetation, and looked worn down and dilapidated, as if several decades had passed. Was this really the school building where they were staying at? Maybe they time traveled? Or, did they stray off into another world?
Such questions come to mind.
Then... "Ugyaaaaaah"
Ryo's yelling was heard from the school building. The youths were hit with a new crisis...!
"Where the hell am I?"
Having gone astray in another world, the youths were puzzled...!
I wonder if Takuma will eventually make it into the main video game timeline. Seems like they've been really pushing for this Digimon game universe between the World & Story games
Survive would've made a super good anime.
Certainly would be a lot better than the Taichi show...

Best version of Agumon for me. A rare chance to play heroic versions of Tyrannomon and Mugendramon.
Adventure 2020 did it first.
My first playthrough went from Tyrannamon, to Triceramon to WarGreymon.

I never played this game. I wanted to ask how you unlock the Digivolutions? Like are they random when the story calls for the moment to Digivolve or do you get to choose their first one?
For Agumon it depends on how you have Takuma, his human partner, respond to certain questions throughout the story. For the other characters, their first evolution is unlocked as part of the story; later on you have to raise their affinity/friendship to unlock the rest later on.
@@MidNightFaun Oh. So that section you were in where you got WarGreymon is optional?
@@Banjoisawesome Well not that exact section. In part 8 of the game Takuma is given four questions and three of those questions will decide Agumon's final evolution and that specific ending of the game unless you are playing through the truthful route where everyone lives.
It's a lot to explain...

Question why is Agumon digivoling straight into Ultimates like Triceramon or Megadramon?
Maybe Agumon's warp digivolving? Maybe the developers didn't want to say a certain evolution is canon versus a player's choice during a battle.
It's like in digimon savers where they "warp digivolve" to both ultimate and mega
Evolution works different in alternate universes.

@@MidNightFaun that really doesn’t make any sense why they would do that in hackers memory I think it would’ve called. They used the real name and not omega. Why are they so changing it?
@@chancesmith4614 Probably the people who translate the games from Japanese to English not paying attention. Omnimon was called Omegamon in Next Order and that came out before Hacker's Memory.
Pretty sure it’s called Omegamon in Japanese, so if anything Omegamon is the original name.
@@DanielWhite4869 That's right, but dub has been consisted with Omnimon until Digimon World Next Order. Now it's either name depending on the translation/translator.
No they are digimon in digimon survive. They use the term evolution frequently throughout the franchise when taking about digivolution quite a bit
In Survive's universe, they haven't become Digimon yet. They're referred to as Kemonogami because in Survive they were seen as spirits and were able to live with humans before technology and electronics developed.
