Best? That feels like really pushing it. Even in the story it was blatantly obvious it was the big corporation behind everything but the main trio was still shocked to learn who was the bad guy. One of my favorite parts of appmon was near the end, like right before they get god mode, and they get asked their activation question again. It happens in like an "are you still firm on your stance" kind of way. We find out that Rei's question was "are you alone?" and he chooses no. That made me tear up.
seeing such obvious lgbtqia+ rep in appmon was something that really made me feel good, and I desperately hope future Digimon stories continue to make good rep! also appmon should be considered regular digimon imo. a lot of them are very obvious references to existing digimon and could very easily fit into digivolution trees. if xros wars can add levels to their characters then appmon (who already have a level system, literally just change the names) shouldn't be considered any different than digimon
When I first started Appmon it didn't feel like Digimon and I stopped watching. Last summer, I resumed watching and quickly binged it within a few days. It's one of my favorite seasons.
Appmon is the Digimon hidden gem. Such a beautiful Story, characters, soul and personality for days. I miss the old good days of watching the series weekly and being able to share the thoughts with other Digimon fans. I hope that Appmon will be integrated into the main Digimon anytime soon. It's part of the family, and one of the best ones if you ask me
My favourite part of the show is the theme of A.I as appmon themes and topic is probably the most relevant in all Digimon series as now we're entering the era of A.I and the stuff appmon talks about A.I can be scarily accurate and hey perhaps one day a Leviathan would exist in real life
About 2 years ago I started watching every Digimon series with my son. We are only missing Xros wars and 2020. But, let me tell you. This one caught me by surprise. It's actually one of my favorites. Don't sleep on this one, guys. One thing I really liked was how creative they were with the Appmon abilities and how they use them in battle.
Watched it while airing, I'm glad to hear people enjoyed it. In hindsight, there is probably a larger discussion to be had here. Especially when it feels like ghost game with episodic feels, but with an actual payout.

You were the reason that I, only last year, watched Appmon and I absolutely loved it ! One of the best Digimon experiences that I ever had. This did a lot of arcs that Tri, Adventure 2020 and Tri tried to did but failed so much better
One thing I appreciate about Appmon is how it ramped itself up so subtlety. In the beginning episodes I didn't think too much of it and the plot but then all of a sudden we shifted into high gear once we started we started to get evolutions. My favorite character which surprised me was Astora, which again surprised me cause I paid closer attention and was ready to like Eri and Rei but as they progressed he just keep sticking out to me. Not to say I liked them less but I related to him more.
Harus evolution is similar to Pop's in the Dragon Quest Dai anime and he's the best character in the show. Starting off cowardly makes the change to bravery all the more impactful

Wow, finally found someone who ADORE this series. I made a Mal review and gave it a 10/10 after watching it. This amazing Digimon series got overshadowed by that atrocious Digimon Tri thing , which is just very sad. The growth of Haru as a character and the chemistry between him and Yujin is the best Digimon series has to offer. The supporting casts and their partners all have very satisfactory conclusion too. As an adult who go on a rewatched all the Digimon series , Digimon Appmon is the only one that can stand toe to toe with Digimon Adventure as far as story /characters goes. My only complaint is the downgrade in music department. Digimon 01 OST is just on a totally different league in that regard.
Appmon came out around the time Spyro was being absorbed into skylanders and got me a bit scared Digimon would be absorbed by its own spinoff. That didn't happen obviously but it seemed like it might at the time.
Appmon still remains my forth favorite season of digimon after original Adventures, 02, and Tamers. I wish Ghost Game had gone the route of having cap stone episodes where the episodic stand alone episodes had connective elements leading to an end of arc boss episode. Where you could watch those episodes by themselves and not need more story, yet there's some minor parts that can be ignored but also work towards a story later on. The when the cap stone episode occurs it would reference those events so you didn't need to watch the previous episodes to follow the story of that episode. Sort of like how they used the black digimon appearing during Gullusmon episodes and then revealing them at the end of the series-- though more should have been done with them for all the build up they had. A better example for what I mean would be to have all the dark digimon that got away in the early episodes reappeared in the episode Vamdemon was the enemy, and make it clear in that specific episode that what they did was tied to him. Also, that there was a continuity editor to make sure that events that changed things actually changed, and we don't have episodes that feel as if they should have occurred much earlier in the series. It really feels like Ghost Game tried to be more episodic than Pokemon, yet not realizing that while Pokemon told a simple story through each season, that you can skip episodes and still understand what's going on-- they still told a story that was built upon bit by bit.
I'm split on ghost game, on one hand I really enjoyed a good number of the individual episodes, on the other hand none of the shows character arcs were memorable to me, and the Overarching plot took way too long to progress, along with the Story Disapointing me for how long we were made to wait for it.
It's actually kind of sad that so many sets have come out and they have pulled Digimon from just about everywhere except this show. I hope they get cards also. I don't play the tcg often due to being a Magic player, but I do have a few decks and buy packs now and then to collect since I love Digimon.

as a person who watch almost the entirety of the digimon anime, appmon is one of the better ones. the worst no doubt in my mind is xros wars hunters (i like xros wars, the take on it was interesting but hunters is where i draw the line)
Ever since I got to this season in the binge and saw your original appmon video, at least briefly, I was so excited to give this season a try. And after being burned over and over by seasons 2, 4, 5, and 6 all having aspects of good in them and getting legitimately invested in some of them, only for them each to kinda crash by the end and be all somewhat mixed in quality to the point where I could not say I wholeheartedly liked them, I was afraid appmon would turn out the same. But upon watching it, I couldn't have been happier to have been proven wrong. Appmon has since been my favorite season of digimon and I have to absolutely thank you for giving me the hope for the season enough to commit to checking it out, and as well as being one of the only digitubers out there who has *truly* been giving this season a chance to be seen and recognized by fans all over. Thank you.

When both appmon and tri were ongoing, I felt more attracted to appmon. I don't know what it was about tri, but of the 2 I always preferred appmon more.
To me Tri felt like an unnecessary attempt to use an old setting to expand on things nobody asked for nostalgia while Appmon's worst crime is having too much filler, I at least praise the 2020 reboot for telling it's own story but Appmon still felt like the best recent Digimon series
Tri was just bad, it is an anniversary product that dedicates its entire run time to being an asshole to some random girl, to the point that the main villain ends molesting her, and by the end the protagonist even kill her partner, and for no good reason other than the writers having a boner for making her suffer Which of course has nothing to do at all with the idea of reconnecting with the old cast as we get to see them as grown ups
thanks to your video, i actually checked out appmon. i just finished it a few days ago and it was AMAZING. the finale episodes post ep47 are particularly VERY awesome. definitely my favs after tamers & adventure!!
I remember when this came out (when I was in 6th grade) and thought it looked odd but I gave it a chance and watched up to the first 6 episodes cause it was hard to find the episodes. But it’s on Crunchyroll and after watching this review I can’t to finish and experience this for myself.

7:32 I don't have a problem with UA-camr protagonists when it makes sense for the story themes/universe. Appmon uses it to explore people's reliance on modern technology and its consequences, so it makes perfect sense. It's only cringy when a franchise retools in order to include social media elements, like the most recent My Little Pony generation, where they are no longer in a magical fairytale world but instead a modern world where they are all obsessed with social media.
I'm one of people who don't like appmon when they announce first time, kinda sceptical because the direction, design, and many season before it who kinda unsuccessful But when i grow more older and found it aired in local tv it's make me sad how people miss such a good show

I haven't seen Appmon yet, but I believe it's biggest mistake was Labeling itself as a Spinoff, right after a season that was devicive and already bucked a good chunk of the standered conventions to the point where it in and of itself felt like a Spin off. And my theory is when you make an actual spin-off right after a show that felt like a spin-off it kind of makes you wonder if this new show is even related to the original or if it's just using the name. I personally think it would have had a higher viewership if it came out around when Ghost game aired.
I agree about the naming convention. I think it had something to do with Tri being for old fans and this trying to create NEW fans. But a rebrand / spinoff title "Appmon" was a mistake imo.

I appreciate you sharing your thoughts on this. I was always drawn to Digimon bc of the themes: the "never give up" attitude that persists, how good qualities in real life became in-universe power ups, the bond between partners, character design, & etc. I've always struggled to pick up on the complexities of narratives in fiction, implicit or explicit, & plot holes were something I rarely caught onto (incomplete dark ocean story went right over my head as a kid & adult lol). It's also why I've loved seasons people have been tough on bc of story-related issues, but I'm glad I've gotten to see what others have through these in depth explorations.
The Ghost Game disses were a bit annoying ngl, especially when the main point did not age well. Yeah yeah, I know he disliked how the overarching plot was an "Excuse Plot" for the "Monster of the Week" format. Wanting it to have been syndicated does not that was *not what it was going for.*

Could have just undermined the scare factor of the MotW ngl, which were the point of each episode. Frankly, how would the idea of horror from Digimon not understanding humans had fit with some "mastermind" being behind everything?
at the first glance, I kinda hate cgi that being use in this season. However I kinda like it and prefer it since cgi can make their action more smooth and consistent. Look how epic was the battle. The animator doesnt need to hardly draw action per second when they can just move the 3D model as they want.
My only issue with Applimon is that they tried to incorporate so many things that "worked" in other franchises...Ultraman, S.Sentai, Yokai Watch...and the Digimon seems too small. The storytelling improved but it lost what made Digimon great IMO. Then again Im a millenial...
Nah you’d need to have thicker goggles than a Digimon protagonist to force the two young kids there to be gay 😅 No greater love than this is to lay down your life for a friend. Last I checked there was literally zero romantic chemistry going on there it was just typical shonen friendship Cool of you to cover this series though it’s basically the black sheep of Digimon.

What I say in the video is "My understanding is this relationship meant a lot to lgbtq+ digimon fans and I can understand why" -- no forcing here, art is open to interpretation and often can be read in multiple ways. I can't stand Astra. Though I thought his intro episode was good, he is so annoying, and that goes double for Musimon, especially the voice. I also thought Episode 13 was really stupid. I get needing a holiday threat, but the problem with it being digital is that we have tech people that could easily fix that. Heck, if anything we could just say the 26 is the 24. And there are still analog calendars. There are just too many holes to the point where it becomes distracting. I've just finished episode 14 and though I like Haru, Gatchmon, Karen, and Dokamon, I'm not seeing that "spark" that makes a series really click. The show itself is starting to give me Digimon Hunters vibes and that is NOT a good thing. I'll be back after the series is done.

Nah. This was what killed the series for me. Wasn't a fan of the 3d digimon. The AI field setting was boring, and the narrative wasn't compelling. I appreciate the inclusion of the problems that come with the use of technology, but unfortunately its integration to the story is not really interesting. I probably watch up to 15 eps.
Universe appli monsters was fun to watch I watched it once and now recently I re-watched it second time and I still loved it. It is actually scary to imagine how AI can be destructive because when humans start to rely on technology and AI it usually means humanity downfall Terminator movies showed that, and even this anime showed what happens when humans rely on technology too much, technology needs to be maintained, looked after, because anyone can hack the technology and what would happen then? total chaos will happen, this is why humans shouldn't rely on technology all the time, books exist for a reason.
I believe the reason it was hated initially was because of the fact it was made during the Yo-kai watch craze at the time, hence why the Appmon look the way they are. Viewers and fans alike simply thought the anime was a blatant Yo-kai Watch clone.

When leviathan called the protagonists “chosen children” I got the biggest Digimon chills, that and ofc the brave heart digimon episode Definitely a digimon show imo
The concept of an "idol" character is just super cringe to me all the time. It's literally a career built on simps and girls just being vain and pretty. Just cringe that is somehow accepted in Japan amd especially anime.
To be fair, a similar phenomenon was done with musicians, actors, and sometimes rich people in general. The concept of an "idol" consolidates and weaponizes that in a similar way you'd expect from a boy band, which they too, were basically marketed in such a way that teenage girls would fork over handfuls of cash for a t-shirt with her favorite member's face on it. Go back far enough, and there are several groups of musicians that existed around the same time period that also basically lived lives in a similar way to idols. It's like carcinization, except that it's very capitalistic and it's more brief random explosions that inevitably burn out.
For this being not such a watched series the toys for it are soooooo expensive lol. When I watched it I loved and went to buy the toys and was like woah toooooo much for me lol
DIGIMON UNIVERSE APPMON seems like a waste of time why would anyone watch Appmon when they can watch or re-watch the original 5 seasons of Digimon instead? particularly Digimon Tamers and Digimon Data Squad (Savers) (The "Grown Up" Season)
can't tell if this is a joke or serious comment. Not everyone wants to rewatch. Maybe you've already rewatched Tamers, Data Squad a million times and you want something new that is still in the world of Digimon. In that case, Appmon is a great choice

Ever since I got to this season in the binge and saw your original appmon video, at least briefly, I was so excited to give this season a try. And after being burned over and over by seasons 2, 4, 5, and 6 all having aspects of good in them and getting legitimately invested in some of them, only for them each to kinda crash by the end and be all somewhat mixed in quality to the point where I could not say I wholeheartedly liked them, I was afraid appmon would turn out the same. But upon watching it, I couldn't have been happier to have been proven wrong.
Appmon has since been my favorite season of digimon and I have to absolutely thank you for giving me the hope for the season enough to commit to checking it out, and as well as being one of the only digitubers out there who has *truly* been giving this season a chance to be seen and recognized by fans all over. Thank you.

Appmon > Adventure (2020) + Ghost Game
When both appmon and tri were ongoing, I felt more attracted to appmon. I don't know what it was about tri, but of the 2 I always preferred appmon more.
To me Tri felt like an unnecessary attempt to use an old setting to expand on things nobody asked for nostalgia while Appmon's worst crime is having too much filler, I at least praise the 2020 reboot for telling it's own story but Appmon still felt like the best recent Digimon series
Tri was just bad, it is an anniversary product that dedicates its entire run time to being an asshole to some random girl, to the point that the main villain ends molesting her, and by the end the protagonist even kill her partner, and for no good reason other than the writers having a boner for making her suffer
Which of course has nothing to do at all with the idea of reconnecting with the old cast as we get to see them as grown ups
No way that kid can do UA-cam for only 30 minutes 😅😅😅

thanks to your video, i actually checked out appmon. i just finished it a few days ago and it was AMAZING. the finale episodes post ep47 are particularly VERY awesome. definitely my favs after tamers & adventure!!

I remember when this came out (when I was in 6th grade) and thought it looked odd but I gave it a chance and watched up to the first 6 episodes cause it was hard to find the episodes. But it’s on Crunchyroll and after watching this review I can’t to finish and experience this for myself.

7:32 I don't have a problem with UA-camr protagonists when it makes sense for the story themes/universe. Appmon uses it to explore people's reliance on modern technology and its consequences, so it makes perfect sense. It's only cringy when a franchise retools in order to include social media elements, like the most recent My Little Pony generation, where they are no longer in a magical fairytale world but instead a modern world where they are all obsessed with social media.
I'm one of people who don't like appmon when they announce first time, kinda sceptical because the direction, design, and many season before it who kinda unsuccessful
But when i grow more older and found it aired in local tv it's make me sad how people miss such a good show
Appmon's issues stem from the Yo-kai Watch trend chasing; as in the beginning is a bit too younger audience orientated even by kids anime standards.
Yep but with its proximity to Digimon Adventure Tri I could 100% understand why they thought "Tri will hit for lapsed adult fans and Appmon will create NEW young fans"

what I like about Appmon is while it's design and formulated for younger viewer, it's have charm that I love form Digimon.
I haven't seen Appmon yet, but I believe it's biggest mistake was Labeling itself as a Spinoff, right after a season that was devicive and already bucked a good chunk of the standered conventions to the point where it in and of itself felt like a Spin off.
And my theory is when you make an actual spin-off right after a show that felt like a spin-off it kind of makes you wonder if this new show is even related to the original or if it's just using the name.
I personally think it would have had a higher viewership if it came out around when Ghost game aired.
I agree about the naming convention. I think it had something to do with Tri being for old fans and this trying to create NEW fans. But a rebrand / spinoff title "Appmon" was a mistake imo.

I appreciate you sharing your thoughts on this. I was always drawn to Digimon bc of the themes: the "never give up" attitude that persists, how good qualities in real life became in-universe power ups, the bond between partners, character design, & etc.
I've always struggled to pick up on the complexities of narratives in fiction, implicit or explicit, & plot holes were something I rarely caught onto (incomplete dark ocean story went right over my head as a kid & adult lol). It's also why I've loved seasons people have been tough on bc of story-related issues, but I'm glad I've gotten to see what others have through these in depth explorations.

The Ghost Game disses were a bit annoying ngl, especially when the main point did not age well. Yeah yeah, I know he disliked how the overarching plot was an "Excuse Plot" for the "Monster of the Week" format. Wanting it to have been syndicated does not that was *not what it was going for.*
What main point did not age well? I kept them in *because* they still felt accurate and worth mentioning for people who are on the fence about Appmon looking for reasons why it's different from seasons they may have tried. I also make comparisons & critiques of Tri, Adventure 2020, Adventure 1999 throughout this video -- so why are my Ghost Game comments the issue? Sadly, I am not knowledgeable enough on youkai works nor ghost story franchises to properly explain how *"Ghost* Game" does not sound like a syndicated plot, but I can stand by how the plot was more a *backstory than a goal.* Honestly, I do not see how an overarching big bad would really work for the horror of a ghost story anime, especially when the main threat was Gulus all along. I mean, I cannot imagine there being a ghost story anime with an overarching big bad, like Nurarihyon or something, when they are fighting stuff like spirits, and the characters knowing Gulus was the cause of everything earlier might have been awkward. Could have just undermined the scare factor of the MotW ngl, which were the point of each episode.
Frankly, how would the idea of horror from Digimon not understanding humans had fit with some "mastermind" being behind everything?

at the first glance, I kinda hate cgi that being use in this season. However I kinda like it and prefer it since cgi can make their action more smooth and consistent. Look how epic was the battle. The animator doesnt need to hardly draw action per second when they can just move the 3D model as they want.

My only issue with Applimon is that they tried to incorporate so many things that "worked" in other franchises...Ultraman, S.Sentai, Yokai Watch...and the Digimon seems too small. The storytelling improved but it lost what made Digimon great IMO. Then again Im a millenial...

What I say in the video is "My understanding is this relationship meant a lot to lgbtq+ digimon fans and I can understand why" -- no forcing here, art is open to interpretation and often can be read in multiple ways. A lot of lgbtq+ fans took something meaningful away from the writing of these characters, and I also picked up on those readings. Cheers!
I can't stand Astra. Though I thought his intro episode was good, he is so annoying, and that goes double for Musimon, especially the voice. I also thought Episode 13 was really stupid. I get needing a holiday threat, but the problem with it being digital is that we have tech people that could easily fix that. Heck, if anything we could just say the 26 is the 24. And there are still analog calendars. There are just too many holes to the point where it becomes distracting.
I've just finished episode 14 and though I like Haru, Gatchmon, Karen, and Dokamon, I'm not seeing that "spark" that makes a series really click. The show itself is starting to give me Digimon Hunters vibes and that is NOT a good thing. I'll be back after the series is done.

Nah. This was what killed the series for me. Wasn't a fan of the 3d digimon. The AI field setting was boring, and the narrative wasn't compelling. I appreciate the inclusion of the problems that come with the use of technology, but unfortunately its integration to the story is not really interesting. I probably watch up to 15 eps.
Universe appli monsters was fun to watch I watched it once and now recently I re-watched it second time and I still loved it. It is actually scary to imagine how AI can be destructive because when humans start to rely on technology and AI it usually means humanity downfall Terminator movies showed that, and even this anime showed what happens when humans rely on technology too much, technology needs to be maintained, looked after, because anyone can hack the technology and what would happen then? total chaos will happen, this is why humans shouldn't rely on technology all the time, books exist for a reason.

I believe the reason it was hated initially was because of the fact it was made during the Yo-kai watch craze at the time, hence why the Appmon look the way they are. Viewers and fans alike simply thought the anime was a blatant Yo-kai Watch clone.

The concept of an "idol" character is just super cringe to me all the time. It's literally a career built on simps and girls just being vain and pretty. Just cringe that is somehow accepted in Japan amd especially anime.
To be fair, a similar phenomenon was done with musicians, actors, and sometimes rich people in general. The concept of an "idol" consolidates and weaponizes that in a similar way you'd expect from a boy band, which they too, were basically marketed in such a way that teenage girls would fork over handfuls of cash for a t-shirt with her favorite member's face on it. Go back far enough, and there are several groups of musicians that existed around the same time period that also basically lived lives in a similar way to idols. It's like carcinization, except that it's very capitalistic and it's more brief random explosions that inevitably burn out.
I will say at least Eri was fleshed out as most idols are seen as practically not "real people" for some of their fans IMO.
