Never feed anything to an animal without the responsible party's permission. Id have picked up the apple and asked the guard if it was okay to feed it to the horse. No answer or a No means it goes in the nearest rubbish bin.

@@kathy3425 As I have stated: horses have a small gullet all the way down the neck.......apples can be large and only fit for cooking or smaller for eating: but, if you buy from the marketplace you will find they are mostly waxed and the skin is hard enough to cut your mouth and stick in the throat....!
All this information came from the Stud Farm behind my house where they bred mostly Arabs at top prices.....and paid a fortune to hire top vets....
My local horse on her own gets a full range of food stuff by passers bye.....even though the notice says no feeding the horse!!

The guard needs to be able to guarantee that all food is safe, hence why its a bad idea to offer then food. Even if the apple is safe, it's cut in half and could have picked up a chunk of grit that wouldn't be good for it's teeth.

Green apples won't make horses sick and yes that guard saw exactly what was going on and has complete control over the horse so if he didn't want the horse to feed on the apple he could have stopped it. The only issue I have with this is that the horse should not eat with a bit in its mouth as it causes damage to the teeth but the guard allowed this. He saw the man kick the apple piece to the horse.

I also know what the bit looks like and how it fits into the horses mouth...but when it moves its mouth the bit also moves because much like our own face their faces uses muscles that moves the bridle while they chew or move their mouth which allows it to rub on the back of those back teeth which can crack or get stuck on the metal bar of the bit. Horses are not supposed to eat with a bridle on. They should have a halter on while they're eating if not then have absolutely nothing on their face.

Do you not know how that works? If they don't want anyone near their horse they can demand them to go away. There are also near by officers to deal with anybody who doesn't listen. They are also permitted to use deadly force if necessary. The fact that this guard said nothing and did not prevent his horse from eating the apple tells me the guy who kicked it was permitted to do so and the caption was more about how the guard was not prepared for the sudden drop as the horse took a bow to eat the apple.

That’s partially true. They can get colic when fed large quantities. I’ve fed our two donkeys a couple apples or a couple carrots every day for 15 years we’ve had them. Never had any problems. Just a happy couple of curious goofballs that think they’re dogs. They’re pretty vocal as well!

In the UK there was a news report about the dangers of people feeding horses. There are some people that own horses on a rented field and on a couple of separate occasions they had woken up to find some of their horses dead in the field. Each time it has been because of the public feeding them thinking they're being kind, but whatever they feed them is bad for this particular breed of horse and kills them. So nobody should be feeding these horses. They'll be very valuable I can imagine.

Not only is it disrespectful to feed another persons horse but also horses should not eat with bits in! It can get stuck in the bit especially if it has rollers or links and can then bother the horse or jam the rollers in the bit.

u should never feed the kings horses in my eyes not even polos. becuase for one they are not you rhorse. and u should always ask the rider anyway as they know how many they already had or whether they are on special diet. but most of all i would nt encourage people to feed them as u never know if some body has poisoned the apple or mint etc that they give the horse. id hate for any horse to be put at risk . the riders also. bless them horses are so beautiful an animal.
