As a person who grew up with Icarly, I always loved Jennette McCurdy because she was hilarious. NEVER have I imagined her childhood would be a living hell. She abandoned her childhood just to be the childhoods of all of those who watched Icarly. I'm hoping Jennette McCurdy is doing better now.
Yeah she still recovering
That's y she wrote the book bcus she's finally in her stage of life to finally be able to talk about it
Some of the greatest comedians in the world struggle with mental health issues like OCD, anxiety, etc. Just look at Robin Williams.
I love icarly but I really can’t stand child abuse 😡😡😡😡
I watched with my daughter, and she was my favorite character in the show. Well, her and the guy who played the big brother.
It's crazy that Jennette's relationship with her mom was even worse than Sam's relationship with her mom
At least Sam kinda made up with her mom, unlike McCurdy.
@@addie-eileenpaige6460 emphasis on kind of
Low key lol
At least Sam’s mom didn’t abuse her just seemed more like a party mom and they made up
True! Poor Jeannette
Dan Schneider's behaviour is Nickelodeon's worst kept secret but I had no idea what she also went through personally. Keep fighting Jennette!!
Yeah
Yet he wants to come back to making shows. He sold a pilot episode for one to a different network last year

After everything that Jennette went through at Nickelodeon, i'm surprised she hasn't tried to sue anyone over there especially Schneider, i mean she has every right to do so if she wanted to.
Even if she could and or wanted too, Jennette would have to hire the best lawyers in the state of California if she was going to file a lawsuit against a multi-million dollar network and Dan Schneider.
If Jennette had the right laywers she could sue them for millions.
For real
She still could
I think it's very difficult for individuals to sue large companies with giant legal teams unless that someone is incredibly rich. Even if someone could theoretically win, they likely wouldn't have enough money to see it through an extended legal process.
I grew up watching her on ICarly and I was very shocked to hear about all she went through behind the scenes. For people saying it’s not okay to hate your parent, you wouldn’t be saying that if your parents were like that to you. She endured so much and there wasn’t much she could’ve done as a child.
Now as an adult, she’s speaking out and I applaud her for not taking the $300,000 hush money because that speaks volumes! So many others would’ve fell to that temptation but she didn’t! That’s integrity and sticking up for what’s right! Money and fame will never take away the pain that she endured. I just hope people can learn that no matter your job or how much money you make, we’re all human beings and we cannot stop being human. I hope Jenneatte has a wonderful rest of her life!
I think I kinda knew something was going on. The angry and sadness on the show looked too real to be acting
I remember seeing one of their interviews and it was just so painful. People tell you stories of child actors but to hear a very frank account of a survivor is something else. I’m so happy they’re relatively happy in their life now.
Just listened to the whole book this week. It’s so eye-opening and I have a lot of empathy for her. She went through so much, and I have complete understanding why she may never act again. Her mother was god awful
I knew something was going on but my niece watched the show and loved it so I kept quiet. Also if you go against people in UA-cam they chew you out
Her mother must be in hell right now for abusing her.
The fact the she's been telling her truth for years without anyone batting a eye. Until now. Tragic I legitimately pray for this young lady to find peace and happiness like she deserves.
I knew these claims years ago but god forbid I tell someone on UA-cam what I read. I was called a liar a few times
Am reading this book now. Hard to get through as someone who has been through 60 years of emotional abuse from my mother, I applaud her. I hope she is healing now. Mine is still alive at 90.
I hope you and your mother made up eventually
Jeez, 60 years? That's long. What did she do? And did she show regret for it? Either way that sounds unfortunate.
We all knew something went down but not to what extent. Good for her for finally being able to talk about her trauma.
Jennette doesn't have hatred for Ariana! Jennette even stated in post interviews that she has misplaced anger towards Ariana stop saying that Jennette dislikes Ariana.
They didn't say that Jennette disliked Ariana in this video. They said that Jennette FELT jealousy and resentment towards Ariana. Those are PERSONAL inward feelings towards oneself NOT towards another person. Jealousy and Resentment are exact emotions of misplaced anger as you stated. MsMojo said how you feel and yet you somehow didn't understand what was being said--hahaha.
It’s pretty heartbreaking 💔 what Jennette McCarthy went during her game. Hope she’s doing better.🙏🧎♀️

@Ian yorkland it's McCurdy not mcurdy
I've been a fan of Jennette's since iCarly and it absolutely breaks my heart to hear everything that she went through.
The fact that I grew up watching iCarly, thinking Jennette was a happy girl living the Hollywood dream, thinking Sam Puckett was one of the best characters ever, and to now find out that this is Jennette’s real story is horrifying and heartbreaking.
I almost feel bad for having grown up watching iCarly, or for having watched it on Netflix from time to time for nostalgic reasons.
No person, especially a child, should have to go through as much pain as Jennette did, in any way, under any circumstance.
I’ve experienced a lot of childhood trauma too, and if I ever get the opportunity to meet Jennette, I just want to hug her and tell her that I see her, I hear her, and she is not alone.
I’m sick of people dismissing trauma such as Jennette’s in the name of there being “lots of people who have it worse.” Yes, always be grateful for what you do have and remember that there are plenty who may have had it even worse then you, but that doesn’t make Jennette’s trauma, or anyones, invalid.
Pain is pain, and no matter what type of pain you’ve been through, or how much pain you were in, everyone knows what it feels like to hurt. And we need to validate everyone who has a story like Jennette’s.
Extremely well said. Thank you for sharing that here.

It's sick how some people categorize levels of abuse
Looking at her experience often makes me wonder how Amanda Bynes was treated. Her own spiral makes more sense now.
Bynes was much worse.

Nah
Sam Puckett is a great character, but Jennette McCurdy is much more important. I hope she’s finding peace with her past and herself.
I am glad that she is publishing the book for herself. But it is also a way to show other artist that if they are going though a difficult situation in their companies or with their managers or parents, they are not alone. How brave of herself, thank you for this.
Poor girl. No one deserves to go through that. Also you, go Jennette! I'm glad to see she's doing well and wish her a tonne of good vibes 💖
Jennette McCurdy is one of my idols in the world and I love her book!!
Jennette was expected to handle financial responsibilities at the age of 13. What 13 year old is emotionally mature enough to handle being the bread winner of the house? No 13 year old I know.
When you, as a 13 year old, are tasked with going to work and paying bills, the only benefit, among the laundry list of draw backs, is that you never have to hear your parents saying that phrase every kid hates hearing "I pay the bills." When your kids are arguing with you, and they have essentially outsmarted you, your last resort is the I pay the bills argument. When you are the bread winner of your house, you get to buy whatever foods you want and go out with your friends whenever you want and you don't need to ask your parents' permission, because they don't have your financial dependence to use as leverage in an argument.
Jennette McCurdy should have been able to enjoy the benefits of freedom described above, yet she wasn't even allowed to shower alone. What? On what planet is being allowed to bathe alone a privilege?
At home, she was abused by her mother. At work, she was abused by her boss. Pour thing couldn't catch a break.
If we had lived a hundred years ago that would've been normal

WatchMojo: The untold story of Jenette
Man her mom took her childhood and then the director took her innocence this girl needs support and help and I'm so glad she's tried to fight her right to speak the truth. Hang in there girl.
If there are any children in the entertainment scene that are going through the same thing Janette went through, they should speak out. Help is available.
Her book was such a good read.
Like many other commenters, I was such a huge iCarly fan as a kid. So reading what things were really like when she was on that show was almost like whiplash; it was completely opposite of the image Id created in my head.
It was really difficult reading through some of the raw details of her struggles with her abuse and eating disorders, but so so amazing when she started to recover. She was so real about how recovery isn’t fun or pretty or easy, and it was beautiful to get to see how far she’s come.
As much as I wanted to see her in the iCarly reboot, I totally respect her choice to leave the world of show business. I wish her all the best and I hope she finally finds the happiness she deserves after all the abuse her mother put through.
her ability to cry on cue becomes much more depressing seeing how chaotic her life was. Glad she is free now and able to find happiness. out of all Nickelodeon actresses Jeanette was my favorite.
Yeah, she goes into what she was thinking when she would do it and it’s so sad 😞
Very sad! She made many of us laugh, and we had no idea she was being abused
The absolute irony of her law and order role 😞 .. I'm so happy and proud for her and how she's handling it all! She has to let it all out like we all do 👏👏 sometimes I also wonder if wherever her mom is, Debras sorry or not also is that NORA AT 12:45??
Always watched iCarly with my daughters. I had no idea until a few years later the misery and hell she went through. She's between my oldest and middle children's ages. I can't imagine one of my own children going through such an evil upbringing. I feel so bad especially that no one saw the signs. It sounds like even Jeannette's Dad was used by her in such a reprehensible way.
I really want to read her book now, knowing more information.
Sending much love and prayers to Jeannette ❤️🙏
I thought there were provisions, laws, protections, etc. established to help child actors. Ever since Jackie Coogan on down, laws and people put into place to keep an eye on the "stage parents", production people, the mental health of the children, and education of the child. Wow a lot still needs to be done. So sad.
As a fan myself for iCarly I feel awful for Jeanette. It’s just bad that she had to go through so much crap to be this famous. I hope she’s finding peace in her recovery.
I haven’t gotten a chance to get Jennette McCurdy’s book yet but I’m going to get it soon I met her along time ago when she was at CAPITOL RECORDS Hollywood during when they were filming cupcake wars to celebrate the release of her country music album she did when she was on CAPITOL RECORDS Nashville I loved her music and I still listen to it from time to time and watch her on iCarly and Sam and cat alot it’s just so sad what she went through with her mom and I can see that her story makes sense she was my hero when she played Sam Puckett I wish that she would be on the reboot but I understand she doesn’t wanna do it but I am
thankful to respect her decision i’m thankful she retired from acting
I feel so terrible for what she had to go through and i feel worse knowing that no one knew. I almost feel responsible because my generation grew up watching stars like mcCurdy making us laugh while she was going through the worst hell behind the scenes both with her “parents” and schneider. I just wish i had a time travel machine so i could help people like her. Almost in like a “erased” type situation.
This story is truly heartbreaking. There is an ironic element for me in this too. She was and still is my favorite actor and yet, she hating acting. And I always said if would ever became a director she would be the one person I would want to work with.
I hope Jennette finds peace and heals. Also live life on her own terms.
I have always enjoyed Jeannette McCurdy from I Carley to Sam and Cat, but didn't know these things she was going through. Stay strong!
Now I know what child stars go through. Some that are lucky to not go through to much. I wanted to be an actor as a child but now I know it would have been to much for me to handle. I hope child actors these days aren’t going through as much as some did back then.
Hoping for the best for Jenette! She's been through so much and her book was a tough listen but it was so well done. She has talents well beyond acting that I hope she gets to experience and develop.
God bless Jennette. ❤ a beautiful soul and overall person. It’s heartbreaking to know now everything she had to endure. Being abused at work only to go home to more abuse. She is a warrior. I’m happy that she has taken the time for herself to heal. I wish her nothing but happiness and unconditional love. 💕
Such a weird life. I totally laugh with the Sam character, so well done. The Freddie stuff is heart felt. I feel so bad for the tormented childhood. You are the best!!!
Good on her for speaking out.
That would’ve been tough but so proud of her for being so brave 🙂 I grew up watching I Carly but you never truly know what’s going on behind the scenes. So awesome she was able to recover and heal from such trauma
She was hilarious on icarly as Sam a lot of stuff went down for her
I remember seeing some article about the stuff Dan Schneider did but that on top of everything else is very heartbreaking.
She's literally a survivor
No parent should ever used their child in the way her mom did. Jeanette didnt deserve all this
I really want to cry watching this. My family and I have been laughing along to iCarly since my middle school days, and Jennette was ALWAYS our favorite. To learn all of this was going on behind the laughs breaks my heart. I hope to God Jennette will be able to heal and come to terms with all of this horror. I will always be on her side
I loved her in Between. But so happy that she is getting through the trauma she has gone through. I wish the very best for her!
I’m glad she’s able to talk publicly about her struggles in her life and on Nickelodeon, same with Josh Peck and his book speaking about his weight struggles, the wedding feud, and how he got into drugs
This really just goes to show you never know what someone is going through
To all the a$$wholes who were defending her mother to me, after I watched an interview with her stating everything she wrote in the book before she even wrote it. Now you know the truth. Just because someone is a parent doesn't make them instant saints or good people.... Just because I knew something you didn't due to watching a previous interview doesn't mean you know what you know. It means I watched something you didn't and learned something before you did. She did a wonderful interview with The Minimalist a few years ago that I watched.
Seriously. The amount of comments saying like "well her mother just wanted the best for her"
Starving ur child? Sexually assaulting her? That's what's best???
Hope she has healed immensely
She also said the food she was told to eat on icarly didn’t help her eating disorder either and she also mentioned her mom would literally touch her in her yk privates to check her
I got sick when I read that. In food commercials, they have the talent pretend to eat or just have them bite food & spit it out. They could've done that with McCurdy's scenes of Sam eating.
@@addie-eileenpaige6460 yeah why'd they actually make her eat it
I kept thinking it was just Dan Schneider who made her think of quitting acting but when I found out that her mom was also the cause of her quitting as well and what happened with her and her mother. It’s so heartbreaking to have heard her story. I hope she will be doing better. Growing up I thought it would be cool to be on a series like Icarly or Drake and Josh, now that I know that Dan is the most creepiest show creator I’m glad that dream of being an actor on one of those shows is now dead
Have you read Jennette McCurdy's memoir? What were your thoughts? Let us know below!
I watched her on icarly
Not yet.
It was an emotional rollercoaster. Some parts were really disturbing, particularly her mother encouraging her to restrict herself to a dangerously low calorie intake. Other parts were highly amusing; Jennette is a humorous author. In particular, I busted a gut laughing when she said that the orange Kids Choice Awards blimps were Dan Schneider's "greatest life achievement" while describing how he was forced to stay isolated in a small room while directing Sam & Cat because he couldn't be trusted around kids (or adults for that matter). That was perhaps the sickest burn I've ever heard.

I read the book and it was incredible!! She is an amazing writer and so real and funny in the midst of a traumatic upbringing. Good for her for finally getting the chance to be herself and live her own life!! She is an inspiration!!
Finished the book and I loved it! I loved her on iCarly. Reading her story was eye opening. I can’t believe all she went through. I can’t stop thinking and talking about it.
She’s extremely brave
I feel so bad for Jennette for her childhood and bc she got sexually abused by the monster Dan Schneider😥
I always thought that behind the camera "she must have a really good childhood." After watching this video (& a couple of interviews about her book), I feel completely bad for her. I am glad she is doing better now, but that is just horrible of she went through. This definitely makes me want to go check out her book.
If you see any child actor then they are having horrible childhoods

Part of me wants her to return not as a full time actress but at least as a voice actress sometime making cameos

She literally destroyed her childhood to be mine 🥺
Idk how I’m so late. But gods never wrong on timing. This book came at a perfect time in my life as I’m ready to break barriers!
She lost so much because she wanted to please her mom. She lost her childhood and freedom.
I'm Glad How Far She's Come To Be Successful Without Nickelodeon. Go Jennette! ❤️ #IStandWithJennetteMcCurdy
Yep! I preordered the audio book
Why isn't Dan Schneider in jail?
He's rich
Just wanted to take a moment to say how strong I think Jeanette not only is now.. but also as a child so freaking strong!! Very sorry to hear of the things she went through.. but Jeanette you are an amazing young woman.. you totally made it to hell and back.. and you landed exactly on your feet. As for her book.. I haven't had the opportunity to read it yet.. but I definitely will! The fact that you were able to open up and write the book it's freaking awesome! I admire her strength and will to continue you forward, I can tell she has a strong sense of emotional intelligence, these truths definitely broke my heart but on the flip side, made me appreciate my parents more for not putting me through this & the fact that I had both of mine 😓🙏🏾 also for having the strength to move on & to share her story. Jennette, you are my hero 🥹🫶🏾
I'm still love jennette because she is a strong and humble person with her fans and friends (her ex-mates from icarly because it was one of my nickelodeon shows nostalgically), and I know that she deserves to be in her private life after the situation of she was very difficult actually very sad and we have to continue listening to the attention and also respect her, it is her decision.
I was disappointed when Sam wasn't in the revival, but now I'm happy for Jennette and her decision
It was interesting reading what she went through. She lived her life in a role of who she believed others wanted her to be. She was constantly putting het mother's needs before her own and playing the role as the near perfect daughter. She was constantly playing other characters. In the book you can see how the death of her mom led her to question her idenity and feel free with herself. It's like what do you do when the person you live for is no longer there? It is tricky navigating and discovering yourself. We all have parts of ourselves or our past we may not be proud of. It is a shame that she went through such a rough journey. I am proud of her for being so open and authentic about her experience. I do hope she is doing much better.
Why must childhood stars be subjected to such horrors? I and many others will never understand. Im glad she spoke out about it
I’m going to have to read that book
so very sad. 🥀
i hope that jeanette will be able to find the joy that she gave to so many of us. 💕
Well I haven’t read the book but I will.
it is so sad and upsettimg, jennette you are a true hero and I hope that from now on you will be haapy, sending a hug from Israel
I grew up watching this gorgeous woman on icarly! I had no idea she was being abused, tho
Speaking of her dance talents, there are rumors she may be on dancing with the stars
This was really sad. I heard about iCarly along with Sam and Cat long after they aired, and I have no words to express how messed up this was. An anime series named Your Lie in April follows a boy who suffered very similar traumatic experiences to what Jennette had to go through, also from a mother who was dying of cancer and trying to force her dreams onto her child. But this is the kind of molding that many nobles have used on their offspring (biological or adopted) for many generations throughout history, and it's heartbreaking to see this still being used today. Everyone has dreams that they want to achieve, but we should always take into consideration what our children want to do instead of forcing what we failed to accomplish onto them. What her mother put her through makes me sick to my stomach, even if she had good intentions (as a child who was born into a near-broke family myself, I can somewhat relate to her upbringing), and Schneider made it even worse with how he treated most of those child stars. I know Cameron Boyce died, but how much of an impact did Schneider have on Boyce's tragic end?
She deserves nothing but happiness
I truly adore her. She is strong and I'm just hopeful she is truly happy.
Jennette is a hero to me.
Wow so glad she got help and is in a great place and told her story! Was there a dad in the picture? what happened to her siblings?
I remember listening to her being interviewed on Chris Hardwick's Nerdest Podcast what is now many years ago, and Jennette talking about the music, writing, and the Sam and Cat issues, its interesting how the narrative has changed over time as she has clearly unpacked what happened to her... you go Jennette...
Unfortunately, that is a dreadful reality that some children are put through and grow up thinking that's how it is done. With the mental, emotional, and physical abuse and the toll it takes. When abuse starts so young, like Jeanette, you think it is how all families are. That it's normal. When some of the children become older, finding out that is NOT normal behavior. It can lead to so many things ranging from mental breakdowns to developing severe mental illness to going to the extreme of committing suicide because they can not cope with the fact that the person who is supposed to protect them ends being their abuser.
For years and years, Hollywood has had an epidemic of child stars growing up too fast and facing life situations that no child should endure. A perfect example would be Drew Barrymore. That woman went through so much at an extremely early age of drug abuse and mental illness that she came out about. She has been so honest and transparent about what happened to her. Look at her now. Even though she went through Hell and back and lived to tell her tale and still be a Powerhouse of a Woman in that fucked up industry that we as a society covet. The people responsible who are supposed to look out after and protect these wonderfully talented children betray them all for the sake of money and their own personal stardom. They get thrown to the predators and told to fend for themselves. There are so many sad, heartbreaking stories of child stars who become adults and cannot cope with the abuse that had been endured or the loss of stardom and fame, experience problems with the law, addiction, mental illness of many kinds and have even lost their lives.
I find myself applauding and finding so much respect for these people who have survived their horrid nightmares of early fame. Who have gone on to become fully functioning adults with lives they never thought was possible. They had to face their demons and move on like Jeanette and Drew (Just an example) or tried too deal and failed. These poor souls will always have my sympathy and respect, because after all, I am just as guilty as everyone else in this society who turns a blind eye all for the sake of entertainment.
Sam Puckett is one of my favorite Nickelodeon characters, but I had no idea Jennette McCurry was going through all that behind the scenes. It is truly sad 😢
I'm still wondering why John K., Butch Hartman, Chris Savino, and Dan Schneider are not behind bars yet. But I have to agree with what her book says. And I'm also glad Debra is downstairs right now.
Which videos does Christine say beat in?
I’m starting the book now
I need to see Jeannette reaction to this
