      I don't know about California. I know here in the Mid-West there's 3 people who look over 4 states. You can make a complaint, and you'll be lucky if they see it within 3 years.

      Also wanna throw out there this is why educating yourself even a little is important. I'm not saying everyone should be a tech. Just check out some sanitation laws in your state.

      @@litterbyy I get what you're saying, but California doesn't have more of a population than Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Michigan combined. This region has about 2 million more people.
      California does more closely follow regulations on EVERYTHING than the rest of the country, but I feel like California probably has more nail salons per capita. My point is just feel free to file a complaint, but don't rely on it doing any real good.

      I went to get a mani/pedi a few weeks ago, and I did notice that the nail lady would just rinse the tools in the water like in here and put the tools back in the drawer, and after she filed and cut off that skin on my fingernail cuticles, she had a little device where you fill it with water and put all fingernails in, I guess to soak the nail, and when she was done with that she dumped all that dirty water filled with skin on the tub in my feet and I guessed that wasn’t supposed to be done and I thought it was gross, and I did get ingrown toenails on both of my feet. Definitely not going back again

    • @JustTanya.
      @JustTanya. 5 років тому +7

      I agree with that. You just have to check the reviews I think. Sometimes the higher priced places do horrible jobs because they have a lot of workers who don't have very good training while other salons may charge less but they have less workers who have excellent training. Even if the salon doesn't look like a "spa resort", for me as long as it is clean, tools are cleaned professionally, they are friendly (customer service and all) and they do a good job and treat you well I would continue to go there. I've been to fancy schmancy nail salons that went horribly and over-priced for a half ass job that I ended up getting nail fungus from. I went to a not so fancy nail salon after that and they didn't over charge me and actually fixed the fungus and taught me what to look for so I've been going there ever since.

    In my state cuticle cutting is considered a surgical procedure. It is illegal, and you are never to cut live skin tussue. Also the thing you call a cuticle is not a cuticle is called eponychium, which helps keep bacteria from entering the body. It is also live skin tissue. I am also licensed nail technician. Maybe it's because you live states, but definitely illegal in mine.

      That's gross though, if I don't cut my cuticles they grow and grow and grow to like 1/4th of my nail bed. You can't just leave it there if you did it would look like 1/4th of the nail isn't painted....and if you pushed it back you'd just have a huge chunk of flapping skin.

      They grow like that because you cut them and your body's defense mechanism tells your body to grow them back. I have pushed back my eponychium after a shower since i was a child. Pushing back and removing actual cuticle, (dead skin connected to nails plate) , this stunts them from growing. And if it flapping it no longer alive and considered a hang nail. Also if it that bad you can use a file. Which has LESS of a chance at cutting you. You are more then welcome to cut your own skin but i prefer to follow standard precautions ie all blood i contaminated you do not do anything that may draw blood

      Fun_with_my_nails Macauly - MMA is illegal in beauty salons here and has been since the 1970’s. Unfortunately because in liquid form it’s poison but cured it’s fine they still use it to make dental implants and that’s why it’s referred to as “dental acrylic” as well as MMA. So, because it’s still used for that it’s legal to get here and a lot of the walk in/Asian salons still use it. One of nail instructors in school is Vietnamese and what she told us is the owner keeps the jugs at home and fills the containers there so when the board comes in they don’t see they are using MMA. Right now California isn’t testing the monomer when they do their checks so they get away with it.

Which means new packaging. Which proves it's been sanitized. I'm hoping to get one for my home spa I've created. Currently I'm using CS20 wet sanitizer solution. Along with a scrub with soap and warm water first. And ALWAYS a new disposable file, in the plastic wrap, in front of the client. These 'sweat shops' should be illegal. Cosmetics are not regulated, only certain ingredients are banned if they are found to be unsafe, but as a whole they are not regulated. The FDA only regulates non-food products that are classified as drugs or as medical devices, and since most skincare and cosmetics do not have active ingredients nor are they medical devices they are not under FDA scrutiny. The ones that are classified as drugs have specific labeling requirements and/or may require prescription, like tretinoin. The more you know, and all that.

      FDA should regulate nail salons more because of health risks. I know in australia they try to shut down these places that bring over dangerous banned products from china, to use on clients who think they are getting something else. Which is scary.
      I mean I knew a nail salon that would refill opi nail polish bottles with cheaper nail polish - sketchy.

I’m a licensed cosmetologist currently working in a hair salon and if you’re clean and following regs there is nothing to worry about. These videos scare me, because with access to whole sale pricing there is no excuse to reuse disposables.
      While I was in school we always stressed that disposable files and pumice stones were to be put in the trash (in front of the guest) or offer it to them; clean products were to come from sealed factory packaging or labeled clean container (and if someone asked to look at them to inspect them, show them).

It's something that no one talks about but we are all somewhat okay with. Look up the definition of indentured servitude. Most of these nail techs get told that they have jobs waiting for them in the US and when they get here are told that they are in debt for the cost of travel, boarding, and state licensing for 10-15 years. Thank you for taking the time to make this video!!! I wish someone in Athens, Alabama would go to the ones here! I used to go to this one place and the technician was awesome! That was back in 2011- 2014. In October of 2018, I decided I was going to go have my nails done again. I went to a place called Diva Nails. EVERYTIME EXCEPT THE LAST TIME I WENT IN, THE TECHNICIAN CUT MY FINGERS TO THE POINT OF BLEEDING AND TAKING A FEW CHUNKS OF MEAT AND I MEAN MEAT!! They have never taken my acrylics off properly. When I went back the second time to have them done, I wanted the acrylic tips off and mine had grown out so I wanted an acrylic overlay. I couldn't even get that because she kept trying to pry off all the old stuff and broke almost all my OWN nails way back into the quick. When they filed my nails and used the dremel tool, they kept on until my nail beds were actually burning. I know that's not normal. To go and be in pain each time? WTH?? Last time I went in was in beginning of March. I got a male finally. And he has been the second male (first male who did my nails, the owner, he didn't hurt or cut me either) to do my nails there, didn't hurt me or cut me. Or burn my nail beds from using that dremel tool. He was the ONLY ONE WHO GAVE ME A PUMP OF LOTION. I have not been back there since. I'd love to see what is actually supposed to happen and exactly how they do it when you get tips with acrylic. 🧐And I'd love to see exactly what the proper way to remove them are. Thanks again!! Hope you have a wonderful day/week/year!! 🤜🤛🧐

    You should totally come up to Seattle and go to the Apollo nails and spa, I worked there as a receptionist but we have over 20+ nail techs at just the location I worked at (capital hill location) we sanitize every chair and autoclave and sterilize our tools for every client. We even open the sterilized bag in front of you. New buffers and nail files of course. There will definitely be someone who can cut your nails straight and cut all your cuticles. Let me know if you want a recommendation for a nail tech. Also we train our new incoming nail techs for as long as they need to get up to our standards before they work on clients so there should be no issue with your polish.

    You can actually buy pumice stones at the dollar store and they're not too bad. I don't know much about nail salons but I have been to nail suppliers and they have great deals. $20 sounds like enough to buy new pumice stones and nail files?!

      There are so many salons and so few state board employees in comparison. I live in the midwest, and the same thing happens here. Dozens of nail salons per decent sized town, so many of them have less than three stars for cleanliness from the average, untrained customer

    • @fluffydevil13
      @fluffydevil13 5 років тому

      In California there are only like 10 inspectors for the entire state (keep in mind it takes like 9 hours to drive from top to bottom). State board takes complaints seriously, not yelp reviews. Always ask to see licenses and if you feel something is up contact state board.

      Isabella G you aren’t supposed to cut your eponychium, you take off the “cuticle” which is just the dead skin on your nail plate, there should rarely be cutting, lol. If you cut your eponychium it will grow back thicker & it’s not safe for you.

After figuring out that the nail shops that I frequented to used MMA acrylic, I just stopped going all together. I'd rather grow out my own claws and learn how to take care of them. However, it would be nice to have someone else do my nails for me.
