@@GreenAquaShop obviously there are disagreeing opinions everywhere, but I would argue that asking your wallet is good advice. If you can afford to spend hundreds on a light, then that’s a good route to go. You are sure to get great results.. But that doesn’t mean you can’t get amazing results from $25 worth of LED flood lights. Pretty sure MD doesn’t spend much on lighting and has some of the nicest tanks I’ve seen. The best part of a hobby is how many different ways you can do the same thing.
The point of the video was to bring closer the reality with these lights. Would be great to have a universal marking on the lights so we can compare them better. But there aren't any. So you may buy something which will never work with your 60-80cm deep tank for example.

Здравствуйте. Только сейчас посмотрел это видео. Спасибо Вам большое за то что Вы делитесь своим опытом!!! Это действительно очень круто!!! Удачи Вам 👍👍👍
Super glad I watched this. I bought a Twinstar 30B thinking about the size and not the wattage. I spent up for a nice c02 setup so might as well spend for the 300E III. Thanks! You guys saved my first build from having sad plants.
I know that you guys cant possibly cover, or expect to stock every light in the market, but i bought a Finnex 24/7 Planted light for 2 different tanks, and they work absolutely wonderfully. I have had 4 different scapes under them, all 4 flourished, 3 of which were no co2 injection, one of my current scapes is being injected with co2. This light cost me around $85 dollars at the time, i think they have come up in price to around $100, but i would pay that again if i were to setup another tank. The 24 hour cycle is fully adjustable, i run about 12 hours on, with the first 2 or three hours as a gradual ramp up to 10 o'clock when the light is on full power, then around 3 it begins to ramp back down. In the evening it sits at avery low "Moon light setting". Morning starts at 6 am, with a nice redish "Sunrise color". RGB, and the 24 hour cycle is adjusted via a remote. I wish that they had an app controlled one, but i am fine with the remotes. Just one that i think deserves a bit of praise as i have been running mine for about 2 years now, and it is quite impressive still when i watch the preview of my 24 hour cycle how well it controls the lighting, and then when it is on at MAX its stunningly bright. My one real complaint with it would be that the remote has to be pointed DIRECTLY at the sensor which if your sitting in front of the tank making time and lighting adjustments can be a bit finicky but i have found once you get past this, the light is phenomenal. If in the next 3 to 5 years it dies, i will certainly be ordering a new one. Just something to consider.
the best lights i have used are the Radion XR15 G5 Freshwater lights. I have tried a ton of different lights but those have been my favorite. my second would be the kessil A160WE Tuna Sun.

Thanks ! Great video again, and it helps a lot ! I just have a concern, as many led light are really powerful, I was wondering if you are using every light at 100% of their power no matter the tank, or if you adjust the maximum accordingly to the category of plants you are using ?
Thank you for the informative comparison. You stated that you run your lights at 100% from the beginning. It looks as your lights are also hung high above your scapes. Could you share your PAR levels? Thank you!
Tommy, A big thank you for creating such a informative education video. Perfect Short and detailed explanation. Yes sometime too many technical information will confuse many new aqua scaping beginner. You are another master level humble guy.
Great video as usual!! I use Chihiros cIi RGB well planted 30L tank and 8 hours with 30 min Ramp, would be about 7:30 or better to put 7 hours ramp included? And with CO2 inyection, at what time ON/OFF? Thanks legends!!!
I have the uns 90 u (35 l /22w/22h 68 gallons) so what size the platone light can be best for my new planted aquarium buddy. ? Thanks up front. Your answer advice would help a lot for beginners like me
Hello from Spain! First of all I really love your videos, I see them all and I find them really useful. I have a question for you just in case you can help me. I work in the morning so I arrive home at 15:00, I would like to enjoy my aquarium from 15 to 22 for example and here comes my problem. I have a pretty lightened dining room, even if the sun doesn’t hit directly the aquarium, the room is quite bright... my question is: would it be a problem to keep off the lights until 15:00 even if there is a bit of light in the room from 8:00 to that moment? Would it cause an algae problem or an stressed plants issue? Thank you very much! Keep doing these wonderful videos!
Hello Greenaqua! Great video!. I have a 90P tank and I use a Chihiros RGB Vivid II lamp (45 cm). I use 80% red, 40% green and 100% blue. In this configuration, the plants and fish have a very prominent color, I always observe perling and have a good growth. What configuration do you use on RGB Vivid II on Greenaqua? Best regards!
Will plants thrive if the 7-8 hours are split? Say 2 hours in the morning; 5 hours in the evening? Or will they do better running continuously? Thanks. Wonderful presentation - quite helpful. 👍
Thanks for video. Very helpful for me, becouse i will soon make a new akva tank with many of plants, this help me choose the right one. Little correction : 14:28 ,, Twinstar B line is NOT white LED, its described like RGB LED (i have one :-), actualy its WRGB - it have white leds too (some of lights are WRB - white, red, blue, some RGB - without white, some WRG - white, red, green) but its true, you cannot set individual color channels on Twinstar Line B. Iam from Czech republic but i hope, that I will look at your store in person. Hopefully in the summer I will find some time for a little motorcycle ride. I really admire your work and you are a great inspiration and helper for me. Thanks for that.
Best video so far not biased on any name in particular just facts and useful information and tips. I think I’m going to buy the Chihiros WRGB II LED (Built-in Bluetooth) WRGBII 120 since I have a 60 gallon tank. Can this work on a rimmed tank?
Nice introduction to current lights on the market. Though I think saying "this is for beginners, this is for mid level, and this is for advanced aquascapers " falls a little short on useful information. The thing is that people buy according to their budget and what's available and not according to their level of skill. I know I do. You mention light settings on Chihiros that may not be most optimal for plants. And I say: "Oh cool! That's the question that bugs me since I bought this light! And you say: "Thank you for watching! See you next time!" A more in-depth info on this would be great.
It's a lot of information but it's hardly useful. It's especially info overload for newbies which are the target audience here. Being one myself, I just want a decently priced light that will grow my plants. I don't need some HD shit. I just need something that will work and something that is affordable. This video didn't help whatsoever.
Hopefully, you will find the info you're looking for. 👍 If you only use the categorization from this one you will be fine. You do not need other things like Par, Lux etc as this confuses you.
@@GreenAquaShop Seems like a back handed/condescending kind of comment to me. Maybe you'd like to choose a better title for your video that isn't entirely misleading. You know, click bait. Something along the lines of 'the inner workings of your light fixtures' instead of saying you're going to help people choose the best of the best lighting which you absolutely didn't do. At first this looked like it was going to be a comparison of the lights, the brands, what was overpriced garbage to stay away from and what you should ultimately look for in your price point and quickly turned into 'look at this, this exists, let me give you an infomercial about light itself instead of telling you anything about any of the products you actually came to know about'. It's asinine to be like 'you don't have to use the stuff that confuses you'. That's not what it's about. It's about the fact that we were very much misled into thinking you were basically going to do a review of the best products to use which turned into a history lesson on the origin of aquarium lighting and how the light itself worked. Cool, not what we asked for though. You did the bare minimum to talk about any of the products except for the very much realistically out of reach ones for the average person unless you just have money coming out your ass. Most of all I'm upset I wasted my time watching it thinking it would actually help, losing sleep for work over click bait. I mean God forbid I want to hear about what I came here for based on the title. Not cool, dude. If you wanted to make a comprehensive guide on the inner machinisms of light, cool, do it, but not under the guise of helping people choose the best lighting for their need and price point which is what people literally came for.
OK, people, chill. :) No need to lecture us. We get the message, and actually many team members are answering these comments. Tommy is not one of them, btw. I'm Balazs, just to make things clear. We try our best when we do these videos, and sometimes our best is not enough, especially when you have to present a huge variety of products. This channel squeezes in as much info an entertainment into these videos as possible, but please don't expect us to give you customised advice in them. Your local fish-shop would do. If you live in Europe and wish to order from Green Aqua for example, and you drop us a mail to our regular customer support line, or you call us, we'll be happy to listen to what you need, what kind of tank you have and what is your tech that supports that tank, and then we'll be able to give you 2-3 options you can choose from. Another possibility: for example if you have a 60p tank, you can just look up the Green Aqua website's lights section and filter accordingly, look at the prices, remember the types of lights mentioned in the video to be able to categorise the lights you see on the website, and you'll be able to make a decision without a question. Peace.
@@GreenAquaShop It's not lecturing just to share valid criticism just because you may not agree. That is the point of the ability to comment on a public platform on the internet. I don't care who is responding, the message can be passed on although I know it most likely won't. Nobody was asking for specific, tailored information. Doing simple product reviews shouldn't be that hard of a concept to understand and has nothing to do with asking for highly fine tuned information. People look to those experienced in the industry for advice on products that work and products to avoid, even if it's all just personal preference, so that they might be able to make a more informed decision before making a purchase. A lot of these things are highly expensive and you won't know if it really does anything for you or actually harms you until it's probably too late to get your money back. Now, for the sake of clarity, I personally am in the market for planted betta tanks, looking for lights that work well enough for plants to grow but ones that don't bother my betta. Something that's decently priced. There's so much back and forth about every little thing in this hobby that I question why I got into it, but I do it for my fish because I want them to have the best life I can afford to give them. I probably over paid already just on substrate, but I've already spent $75 alone on fluval substrate after spending a few weeks in debate on substrates and I'm contemplating 'pool filter sand', as I've been recommended, for some aesthetic difference because it's relatively cheap and I've heard nothing negative about it. It takes longer than it should to make decisions on every little thing because there are so many worrying, negative comments about fish deaths involving products and I just need to be done worrying about it. It seems like almost no one agrees on anything in this industry so it's frustrating to not get seemingly simple answers for weeks on end. I have two jobs, this shouldn't be stressing me out the way it is.
3-4-21, Tamas very very educational video. I now have a much better understanding of the intricacies of aquarium lighting. I am always looking for ways to make my plants grow better and show off their color. Thank you. This is why I love Green Aqua. William, PS I am glad Balazs was not in the video! Only Kidding.
I'm building a new scape with a 100cm L x 60cm H x 45 cm W tank with C02 with a wide range of plants and Dragon stone. My question is about the light: I don't see much in the aquascape world for using Fluval Plant 2 lights which I was thinking of buying to replace my Fluval Aquasky.. Do you think Fluval Plant 2 lights are adequate for aquascapes and this size / deep tank? Also why do these lights never seem to be mentioned for aquascapes? Thanks for any advice and keep up the great work 😷👍
Hi Tommy... The video is amazing... I have a question...what light setting do you recommend for a new tank ... I have light Chichiros Wrgb 2... 60 Thanks
So... If I'm just starting with this whole planted aquarium thing and I want to get some good lighting for my tank (which is 20" long, by 12" tall and 10" deep, and roughly 10 gallons btw) should I just get two 15-20w 6500k CFL light bulbs attached to a lamp and that's it? The LEDs look awesome, but if it's to much of a hassle, I don't want to lose my mind over them.
This video is great! Thank you. Do you have experience with Kessil? Where would you place them in this hierarchy of lighting options? I’m thinking of getting their smallest one (the Tuna Sun A80) for my new 30C tank. I’m just curious what you guys think, since you have so much experience with many different lights. Thanks!
Great video! There is a manufacturer called Micmol that would be interesting to here your thoughts on. Also it would be interesting to here your thouths on bars vs spots like twinstar s vs something like kessil.
Hi, my tank is a 80x30x35, i have a chihiros wrgb 2 slim60 (around 27lm x litres), i was thinking to upgrade the light to a WRGB2 Pro80 (98lm x litres, i can dim it to a 80% to achieve an 70-80lm x litres), i inject co2 and have red stem plant based tank, do you think that the light will be overkill and maybe its better to buy a WRGB2 60 (78lm x litres at 100%), or should i go for it? Thanks
Hi Tommy, Great video with a lot of useful informations for beginners like me. I just got a WRGB 2 yesterday and kind of lost in the colour setting. Can u do a video about how to balance the RGB colors and how do these rgb colours affect on the plants? Thanks ^^
@@HuuChi93 it depends on your sizes. Chinese Chihiros A series will definitely let you grow plants because it is very powerful leds and they are comparably price comfortable. SDK makes special orders of leds according to your needs and sizes of the aquarium. If you have money buy ONF and ADA those are very good ones. Amazing lights but cost fortune. If aquarium sizes are like Dennerle than get Dennerle leds. Their lights are also very good for aquascaping.
@@NoOneIsLikeWinona thank you for tips man. I am looking forward to build a 60p tank, but I am afraid that my 45cm wrgb 2 can’t give enough light, if so I might get a new a2 chihiros to help it out. Buying another wrgb 60 is too expensive lol
When I bought dymax iq9 dropoff tank, it comes with dymax spacex. Iam not to sure about that space X light by dymax but they said is a high end side but I still don't like it. @@supermeseriasu it’s could work if the legs reach the edges of the tank or you suspend the light! But the left and right sides might be a little darker than the middle! If you suspend it you could turn the light all the way to 100% and raise the light higher so the light could reach the edges!
Hi Greenaqua, I just purchased a 6’x2’x2’ peninsula aquarium and I’d like to create a discus tank with is inspired by your recent scape. If price was not an object what lights would you suggest?
If you live in the States the Titan 1 from UNS is almost a direct replacement for the ADA Solar RGB for half the price. I have one and it has amazing color rendition
As you mentioned we can keep the photo period according to our time. What about ambient light.. If we want to create a photo period from 3pm to 10pm. There will be a lot of ambient light till 3pm. Also dark room isn't a option since living room is the spot for most of the people. Thanks in advance for any suggestion.
Well, don't put the tank where there's light in the morning, use shades on timer, or close the curtains, if you can. If you can't because there are people - family - there, just move the tank to another place. It is better to have it bring up some shady areas in the house anyway.

Pls tell me the suitable brand with the model.. Waiting for the reply friends... Tnx.. From India..
25:24 You almost forgot to say the “bell, notification, subscribe” thingy 😂 Nonetheless... this is a good information for the lighting system of planted tanks. I got Chihiros C301 for my 30cm tanks and A501 for my 50cm community tank. They’re all controlled by Commander1 so they’ll be ON at 12:30 and goes OFF by 8:30 automatically. And yeah, if you keep the lights ON longer than 8hrs per day, problems with algae is TRUE!
Greeting from Singapore. Thanks for great information. How about the height of the light? This is also another factor for plants to growth? If ones saying the light is not powerful enough, can we lower the light so to have more light penetrate near to the substrate level, or can we extend the lighting hour for additional 30-1 hour? Would this help ?
Thank for a really good video. I totally agree that comparision of different manufacurers are difficult in todays market. I know you dont stock the Sera LED X-change system, however, in what category would you place their system? Asking since I went from 2xt5 to 4x LED tubes and actually feel I'm getting less out of the LED system, to the point that a new system is on the "to buy list" and I want to take a step up so to speak

You're welcome, glad you found this useful!
What would be a balanced colour setting for the chihiros wrgb?
X2
100% Red
60% Green
90% Blue
You can check out my Instagram to see the effect it has on my Iwagumi tank as compared to the default setting used in my setup video on my UA-cam channel.
I prefer 100% red 45% green 55% blue. The green is pretty strong so it's a balancing act.
I do red 100% blue 0% warm/cool/pure white 75%
I prefer their bauce settings or whatever they call it. My plants love it too:) I run it for 12h :)
Thanks for the nice video! For home tanks, do we need to cover the aquarium when the light is already off, but the light in my house is still on? And also when it's already morning when I open the curtain at home. Thanks!

Great topic Tommy, to a new comer to this hobby I found it most useful so a big thank you.

Nice great comprehensive video about commercial fixtures!
Thank you 👍 Unfortunately Skylight Hyperspot and WRGB 2 slim arrived lately. Well, next time...
Very nice and informative. Please suggest which one we should select for Planted Aquarium - "Chihiros A II Series" or "Twinstar B line Version III"
Was hoping to see how to determine how to set up RGB lighting for chihiros....like how many % red green blue
A good subject for another video. Maybe for a Monday shorter one

Great video as always, by the way, what are your color setting in the Chihiros RGB vivid 2?
Thanks ! Great video again, and it helps a lot !
I just have a concern, as many led light are really powerful, I was wondering if you are using every light at 100% of their power no matter the tank, or if you adjust the maximum accordingly to the category of plants you are using ?
well depends if you get algae problems. Less intencity and lenghts in lighting means less algae most of the time.
Thank you for the informative comparison. You stated that you run your lights at 100% from the beginning. It looks as your lights are also hung high above your scapes. Could you share your PAR levels? Thank you!
Great video.. about par.. just buy a par meter.. and measure what you got.. especially when scaping with overhangs, etc.. loved the video.. well done.
Thank you for all the knowledge you guys give
Thanks for watching 👍
Tommy, A big thank you for creating such a informative education video. Perfect Short and detailed explanation. Yes sometime too many technical information will confuse many new aqua scaping beginner. You are another master level humble guy.
Thank you for your kind words. 🙏😇
I hardly comment on YT, but DAMN Tommy. That was a great video.
Thanks a lot. :)
I learn a lot today. Currently I’m using chirios WRGB for my 60p. Thanks GA. Keep the good work 👍🏻
Love to hear that! Thanks for the support!
Great video as usual!! I use Chihiros cIi RGB well planted 30L tank and 8 hours with 30 min Ramp, would be about 7:30 or better to put 7 hours ramp included? And with CO2 inyection, at what time ON/OFF? Thanks legends!!!
You need to turn on your co2 inject 2hours before the light goes on. (Balazs said that)

Wow that’s some amazing aquariums you have there 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Hello from Spain!
@greenaqua I was wondering this myself as wel. Will you be able to answer?
At home, most of us start the aquarium lights from 3-4 pm as we spend more time in the evenings, nights at home. No prob with that
You just missed the opportunity to play "Careless whisper" when Tommy said "when you can change the color and get into... mood"... xD
🤣🤣 LOL
Hello Greenaqua! Great video!. I have a 90P tank and I use a Chihiros RGB Vivid II lamp (45 cm). I use 80% red, 40% green and 100% blue. In this configuration, the plants and fish have a very prominent color, I always observe perling and have a good growth. What configuration do you use on RGB Vivid II on Greenaqua? Best regards!
We use all colour chanel at the same level. If the lamp to strong, just use all chanel in a lower level.

Will plants thrive if the 7-8 hours are split? Say 2 hours in the morning; 5 hours in the evening? Or will they do better running continuously? Thanks. Wonderful presentation - quite helpful. 👍
They will do better without the "daytime fiesta" 👍
Best topic❤️❤️❤️u r amazing legend ...always make something new video for us❤️
Thanks for watching 👍
I think I’m going to buy the Chihiros WRGB II LED (Built-in Bluetooth)
WRGBII 120 since I have a 60 gallon tank.
If you only use the categorization from this one you will be fine.
Thank you the only thing I was stressing about with planted tanks was lighting.
Thanks for watching 👍
3-4-21, Tamas very very educational video. I now have a much better understanding of the intricacies of aquarium lighting. Hi Tommy, Is Dennerle Power-led 5.0 really better than Dennerle Style led 8 W or did you make a mistake? Thank you for your answer!
Yeah. Good question.
Thanks for any advice and keep up the great work 😷👍
I am using twinstar 600 EA.. Pretty happy with the results.. May be later once if i wanted to go for more higher end this guide is really helpful 😊

The video is amazing...
I have a question...what light setting do you recommend for a new tank ...
I have light Chichiros Wrgb 2... 60
Thanks
Excellent video! I learnt about LUX and Lumen. I did not know that...I am used mostly to T-8s...nice.

Thanks!
Thanks Jessica. Most of the Kessils are mid-intense lights. Good ones especially if you after some shimmering effect from the spot light. 👍

Thanks ^^
I got mine not so long ago. Frankly speaking this light sucks for growing plants. Only beautiful picture.
@@NoOneIsLikeWinona so which light do u recommend to grow plants?
Buying another wrgb 60 is too expensive lol

chihiros rgb 60cm is good for 80 cm tank ?
Thanks for this video, it helps a lot. Great video
Sounds good.
Thanks. :)
Hello from the Cayman Islands, I would like to know how many Chihiros RGB VIVID II 10th Edition LED Lights you would use to light my heavily planted (co2) my 180x60x60 tank - are 2 lights enough?
You are the best guys! :)
Thanks Lukasz, wish we could show more in the vid. Too short. BTW Hyperspot and WRGB II slim just arrived... seems like this story never ends :)
@@GreenAquaShop Definitely, it never ends. I've purchased few months ago Twinstar 450E, for my 45 cm tank. But before making hardscape. Now, when the hardscape is done i liked it the most when i have roots going out of the tank. So i would like to have a hanging lamp instead:( and i even haven't flooded the tank yet:(...damn:(
Would you recommend more of a flood light style-light for a cube aquarium? I have one 35 gallon (50cmx50cmx50cm)

Nonetheless... this is a good information for the lighting system of planted tanks.
