    Absolutely stunning views Gerry, the weather seemed to play ball long enough for you to get your camp set up and even your tea. I love being tucked up for the night and listening to the sound of the wind and rain. That was quite a hike for sure . Ive had visits in the night from foxes at Foffanny but we just sit and chat around the campfire. Finding that wee pitch in the dark was no mean feat ,lucky indeed it was flat, and the vista that was waiting for you at sunrise was delightful, lovely pitch. Enjoyed this one a lot. ATVB Colin

      Cheers Colin, the weather was great and was timed perfectly to suit my walk and camp.You need to capture those foxes sitting with you around the campfire🦊😊 do they partake of some wine? There is nothing better than being all snug and warm with wild weather battling the outside of the tent, I am looking forward to something colder and frostier though as that is great when camping too❄️

    Great viewing Gerry 👏 Every time I see your videos of the Mournes I feel a tug to get back there soon. You seemed so happy on this adventure - the cat that got the cream for the whole trip! I enjoyed your easy chat and updates on the opportunistic foxes and sheep in fox clothes!! Incredible views of the mountains and trails you followed and I know how steep those climbs are. The long nights in the tent at this stage aren’t too inviting for solo wild camps, it’ll be a long winter without them - so I’ll easily do one or two anyway! Beautiful capture of the lovely Mournes and the life of a wild camper 👍 And on to the next adventure Gerry - wherever you are taking us 🤗

    • @gerrymcveigh
      @gerrymcveigh  2 роки тому +1

      Cheers Miriam, I think I will do one of two as well throughout the longer nights, especially if we get some settled weather - it seems to have been unsettled for week upon week. The Mournes are a brilliant place for wild camping and there are so many places to choose from - high or low and it is really accessible. I am never disappointed with my visits. it is always about the next adventure😊

      @@gerrymcveigh hah! Had a great night Gerry - met up with Sole Trail (Martin) and some of his pals. We camped at Lough Cummeenapeasta and it was dry for us when hiking and setting up our tents. One of the guys had a tarp so we sat under that until about 9pm before heading off to our tents. All of our tents survived and we did too - we bailed at about 6am and it took 3 of us to take each tent down. Great experience for us all and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. My first time camping with others - it has its benefits! My solitary trips will continue but nice to share some time with likeminded people and then top it off with a hilarious encounter with Colin and Ben..great weekend!

      Cheers John, they have to be one of the best mountain ranges in Ireland for their variety, ease of access and good paths. Some fantastic mountains, challenges as big or as small as you want to make them, views out to sea, cool bodies of water in the mountains and paths less trodden so you can have the place pretty much to yourself. They are well worth a visit👍

    Wow, the Mournes are looking good gerry. I gotta say I love them sheep trails - I agree they disappear and come back. The trick is to have your gaze ready to pick it up. Hey, good to hear you repair and use - it's a trusty tent mind you and keeps the foxes out. Well, a great adventure after gerry - a few water features and obstacles and you're away buzzing. Good going. Have a great week ahead. Mark

    • @gerrymcveigh
      @gerrymcveigh  2 роки тому +1

      Cheers Mark, sheep trails can be great to pick up and follow. The National Trust, which own part of the Mournes, have halved the number of sheep grazed by their tenant farmer which should help create a better balance with nature. Everything is so expensive now - I think that tent is double the price now when I bought it all those years ago so repair makes sense in that and other ways. We both get a buzz out of water💦 I hope you have a good week ahead😊

    • @WyeExplorer
      @WyeExplorer 2 роки тому +1

      @@gerrymcveigh A pleasure gerry. Hey that's good reducing the number of sheep. They have transformed the landscape over the centuries. Love to hear of the tents longevity - economic sense to. As for the water - it rocks.

    Fantastic, Gerry as always. Me and my daughter were in and around Silent Valley yesterday (4 Nov) up Sliabhnagore taking pics of Moolieve, Wee Binnian and Sliabh Binnian. The worst that could happen is that you get no views, though I am sure you will pick a day to sort that out😊

    The electric bray is very close to where you are there Gerry.

      Have a wee look at this Gerry, I have been there myself it is quite mind blowing, everything looks like it rolls up the hill. I was there many years ago with my four children, they could easily push the car up the hill but not down, even had a football that rolled up the hill. I guess it must be an optical illusion (or is it :)) it is a few miles outside Attical towards Newcastle. It's been a few years since I was there so sorry for the lack of direction. Have a look at this ua-cam.com/video/lcf_DOcWrC0/v-deo.html&ab_channel=TravelWithShanna

      I have walked down that bit of road a few times to get to the river below the dam, will have to keep an eye out next time to see what way the water is flowing😊

    Is there free parking at silent valley? I usually park in Donard car park but it’s a bit far for day hikes if I want to explore further afield

      William, it is £5 for a car which I think is more than reasonable as you can park there all day or overnight securely👍
