Hermes didn't "show his true colors" he had always been this way since season one. He would do anything to make his hero story of Bell happen specially when he gave that invis mask to Mordo. @@Echoing_ Possible spoiler alert (since i don't remember whether it's from LN or anime). Hermes is obsessed this way because of Zeus and fall of his familia. Bell is said to be the greatest hero of the generations because he was nurtured by his "grandpa" (who's actually Zeus) to be that way. Hermes is the only one who knows that and he's ready to do everything to make that happen. Quite often this leads to him being portraited as evil, since he makes stuff hard for Bell in order for him to grow. I didn't get over the Xenos arc in LNs because of time (and my reader being borrowed) but s4 got me hyped up and I can't wait to see where this goes.
Yeah, he's just a manipulator but not evil about it. Though sometimes it may be detrimental, it's usually not lethal to anyone who isn't objectively evil themselves. His "worst" aspect is simply that he withholds information but that's understandable given his character.
The voice is amazing. I subbed just for the voice, and maybe to have you read a shopping list as ASMR lmao. Top notch video. Danmachi has grown leaps and bounds. Especially this current season. Next season, I have heard indeed does go wild. I am excited for this.
Danmachi has always been phenomenal, the novels have been one of my favorite for such a long time but Jc staff just cut out SOOOOO many important character defining moments and the writing is almost second to none able to suck you in in a single page. So good definite must read
Danmachi became my 3rd favorite anime of all time with S3. And S4 was just so insanely good on top of that. I usually don’t obsess over a series, but for some reason the show has really clicked with me. 🤷♀️
What I love the most is that Bell is always being challenged in one way or another, he is always facing something he must overcome, be that just him having to grow stronger for his familia's sake, having to face one of the most powerful familia's to save someone he cares about, having to risk everything he has and everyone he cares about to continue sticking to his principles and morals, or simply being thrown into the deep end of the dungeon with such a low chance of making it back alive having to overcome despair and the monster of the lower floors they were caught in. The fact that me and my friend who watches Danmachi with me were wondering "Fuck is someone not going to make it?" really speaks volumes to how well the danger and tension was able to make you forget that these are the protagonists of the story, because even with Bell we were wondering "What is going to happen to him? How broken is he going to end up from this experience?". Season 4 has definitely been the best one so far.
The first season was one the first things i watched getting into anime and i always liked it now that i have been in the space for some time i see how it lacked a good bit in the beginning and seeing how it has evolved is amazing
this was one of the first animes I started following when i found anime sites and I thought it had a lot of potential and it has been great seeing it not only given that time, but to blossom so beautifully
After season 4 I literally just decided I couldn't wait and read the LNs and omg, when they adapt LN 17 it's gonna be so good. Not gonna spoil anything, just saying imo, it gets even better.
For anyone who finished season 4, I would recommend starting off from the beginning just because there's a lot of cut content in the earlier seasons but season 4 ends with volume 14 iirc. Volume 15 is what we're getting next, unless it's an ova.
@@L3onking yeah, I especially hate how they skipped stuff that's important to character development. Like welf having to confront his father and grandfather when they showed up in Orario.
It genuinely makes me really happy season 3 and 4 are over 20 episodes covering 2-3 books as opposed to season one that was 13 episodes and covered like 5.
Didn't bother to watch season 4 when it was airing as I didn't find the plot too interesting, but i'll give it a watch now. Great video, hope to see more content from you in the future
I've always liked the First Season a lot. While not particulary good, I found its simplicity to be quite enjoyable, and while other series with similar premises feel like a poor attempt at irony, DanMachi felt earnest. And Bell vs Minotaur is a guilty pleasure of mine. Good OST too. It got me into the novels (A rare sight), and the difference in quality is staggering, honestly. Very enjoyable read with a lot more character and stakes. I didn't much care for the 2nd and 3rd seasons due to their issues, but I'm glad that they are finally putting the series back on a good track. It's not perfect, but it's a far cry from the mess from before. Hope they can keep it up.
Thank you, I try my best to make scripts that I can be proud of. There was another one I made for this video that I deleted and I'd say it was def worth rewriting lmao
For me, the popularity of the danmachi is enough. You know when an anime gets too popular they gain a lot of haters to the point that they throw tantrums to the studio and author. So for me as of now I don't see any unnecessary memes, which are kinda funny to see but also change how we view the anime.
Danmachi is my biggest switch up in anime. I written off the show as mid especially in season 2, disappointing. Season 3 was a little bit better, especially with the final fight but still wasn’t too good. The relatively unique world building was the only thing keeping me in. 6.5/10 show. But season 4, it was so good, I’d give it a 8/10 or 8.5/10, it had everything I loved in it. Fighting, character development, atmosphere, romance was on point, none of that harem/fan service bullshit. Even Bell, who I had written off as a generic protagonist, had development as well that I really liked. They even developed the side cast as well, surprising for the genre
Writing be damned, I think the familia war arc at the start of season 2 is so much fun and good character intro for a lot of the supporting cast going forward
To me this is a great series from start to finish, even with the cut and changes. Heck it brought me back into anime. But yes, the light novels are way better, yet even still, the anime is still awesome, which proves that the source material is just up there.
if you think about it it makes sense season to season bell is basically building his party and as such the world cant be explored as much as we want we mainly see him grinding when the party is complete is when we really get to see the series shine
Interesting. I wasn't aware people felt that way. It's been my favorite anime from the get-go. Got the courage to wear my Aiz t-shirt out today in Kyoto. Might be why I haven't been able to find any merch yet, I guess.
I think it's great to feel passionate about a series, so glad you got the courage to wear it. I don't think anyone ever really disliked Danmachi, but it never really got high levels of respect either until now

Dan Machi was the first show I saw the thumbnail of when I got Crunchyroll, and I only recently picked it up about 2 months ago, just to drop it at the start of s3 because I was really board, I then got hounded by ani news' videos in my recommended, picked it back up and smashed out the last 2 seasons, I completely agree with this whole assessment

Season 2 final few episodes with Freya invading Ishtar is what got me hooked. The first season was solid and i was falling off during the second, but when Freya invades and lays waste to the Ishtar Familia, it reeled me in.
It's always been good People just love to look for it's bad part rather than appreciating all it's good side Majority of people who hates danmachi never actually tried to even watch / understand the series If you combine danmachi + sword oratoria novel It's one of the best 2 side fantasy series
Even when just the first season came out, I always told my friends to watch it like 24/7. Even after the popularity bottomed out and the season 2 wasn't coming out for years I still loved it.
Good NOW? My brother in Christ it's been ballin af since it started airing. That minotaur fight from season 1 holds it's place as one of my favorite anime fight scenes of all time.
Danmachi became one of my favorite anime for one reason. The fighting animation. They just do a great job animating the fights and I have no shame living my 12 year old power fantasy through them.
I always assumed (because of the title and some promo visuals) that it was a harem anime where the main plot is that Bell goes into the dungeon primarily to pick up girls. Like he would wait until they were in trouble and then sweep in at the last minute. Damn that is not at all what this show is. Just finish season 4 part 2 and its been a great time
It's kind of wild how many fantasy anime are isekai instead of just a typical fantasy. I suppose probably because it checks the boxes of easy to use writing tool and gives people the ability to self insert
I Think my favorite part about danmachi's lore, is how we are lead by the story into believing it is a wholesome story while in reality we are seeing it throught the filter of Bell's innocent and naive mind, the world has some sad terrible backstory from wars, slavery, racism, mass genocide, there's some terrible people and the gods aren't saints either, they are bored people who would gladly murder half a town for the sake of "Enterteinment". The power system throught fauna is also pretty unique.
Also, love to see people enjoying fourth season, the Juggernaut arc is fucking amazing. It's a non-stop 2 book marathon of pretty much just constant action, and about every single new event is filled with pure terror. It grabs the og feeling that got me into the series (The main gang getting stranded during the first season) and just pumps it up to 11
This anime is actually really good in the first season it was already peak its like a hidden gem that no one knows about cuz it wasn't that popular back then but then in season 2-4 now its getting a lot of attention and its lore, world building, characters, power systems and some storylines is interesting too.
I put off DanMachi for the longest time, mostly because I was put off by it's name and the general discourse around it at the time, which might I add did a wonderful job mischaracterizing the series. People gave me the impression it was some Harem bit (which, I've come to realize, people don't know what that word means). I started watching it recently, and I'm now caught up, about halfway through season 5, and boy has it been an exciting ride. Season 3 things started getting pretty serious, Season 4 was one long series of escalations and disasters, and Season 5 just decided to let loose completely and go absolutely over the top. Super excited to see how it plays out.

You know the anime is good when it has 5 season
Loving the grind Danyul! Will definitely check out Danmachi now!
Love Danmachi so much it’s just soo good rn and as a Novel reader as well the anime does a descent adaptation
The voice is amazing. I subbed just for the voice, and maybe to have you read a shopping list as ASMR lmao. Top notch video. Danmachi has grown leaps and bounds. Especially this current season. Next season, I have heard indeed does go wild. I am excited for this.
Thank you lmao
Danmachi has always been phenomenal, the novels have been one of my favorite for such a long time but Jc staff just cut out SOOOOO many important character defining moments and the writing is almost second to none able to suck you in in a single page. So good definite must read
considering that its already over a year old, season 5 is turning out to be amazing!!
Let me know how it ends. I might pick up season 1.
bro how are you so underrated
Gotta start from somewhere. Much appreciated though :)
Great review my dude.
Glad you liked it!
the light novels are very well detailed I hope you read them and this introduction is very nice thank you for making it.
Thanks for watching!
Danmachi became my 3rd favorite anime of all time with S3. And S4 was just so insanely good on top of that. I usually don’t obsess over a series, but for some reason the show has really clicked with me. 🤷♀️
fuckin same
You know you done something right when you make someone who doesnt read want to read the LN
The Sword Oratoria Manga is on another level when it comes to world building, writing and storytelling.
Looking forward to it!
That’s if they remain truly faithful to the material, but here’s hoping
For anyone who finished season 4, I would recommend starting off from the beginning just because there's a lot of cut content in the earlier seasons but season 4 ends with volume 14 iirc. Volume 15 is what we're getting next, unless it's an ova.
@@L3onking yeah, I especially hate how they skipped stuff that's important to character development. Like welf having to confront his father and grandfather when they showed up in Orario.
dude and 18th novel is already translated
season 4 took things to another level. Danmachi went from being so-so to my top anime in terms of hype.
I’ve been reading the light novel since the first season and the writing is really good. Next season is going to be really good
It genuinely makes me really happy season 3 and 4 are over 20 episodes covering 2-3 books as opposed to season one that was 13 episodes and covered like 5.
Danmachi is one of my favourites. Thanks for doing this.
Didn't bother to watch season 4 when it was airing as I didn't find the plot too interesting, but i'll give it a watch now. Great video, hope to see more content from you in the future
Appreciate it, hopefully my future content will be of interest
Billy army got me here, great video, nicely structured, keep it up my man, glad i found out about you.
Danmachi really got ambitious in the later seasons, and I ain't complaining with stuff like the Xenos and Ryu arcs
those strings made with heavenly materials
wow. this is the first vid ive seen of yours and I gotta say...definitely the next Gigguk. Amazing video keep it up man!
Thanks for the kind words :)
trust me even after s4 it gets better. s5 will be fucking amazing
Who else is here from season 5? No spoilers but got damn is it good
Im in the 4th episode of season 5.
It’s baaaaaaad. It’s a different anime
Season4 both parts have been pure FIRE!!!! Really have enjoyed where the series has been doing recently.
Great video! I was shocked at the end to hear how few subs you had because of the high quality of the content haha
been growing a bit from the last couple vids at least lol, hoping to keep it up from here
I've always liked the First Season a lot.
Nice analysis, thanks!
Thank you!
watching season 5 right now and its peak fiction
I was surprised to see the amount of subscribers you have, definitely thought it was more with how organized the video was. Well done!
Thank you, I try my best to make scripts that I can be proud of. There was another one I made for this video that I deleted and I'd say it was def worth rewriting lmao
Great vid man, Honestly interesting enjoyed every minute
Glad you liked it! Much appreciated
sup, here from nux's video. had seen your content before tho. Great stuff, keep it up
Hmm season 1 was my favorite. I actually thought 2 and 3 were horrible but I’ll give it another shot
you're underrated
Thank you!
I really enjoyed this. It popped up in my recommended and got me to watch the 4th season.
That little bit in season 2 you were questioning, it was adapted horribly about 80% of the light novel just left on the cutting floor
Classic LN adaptation
This video was very very enjoyable. I loved it!
the seasson 4 part 2 is super intensseee!
For me, the popularity of the danmachi is enough. You know when an anime gets too popular they gain a lot of haters to the point that they throw tantrums to the studio and author. So for me as of now I don't see any unnecessary memes, which are kinda funny to see but also change how we view the anime.
I agree so much. This is my personal “hidden gem”, honestly most of my friends wouldn’t watch this type of show, and never even heard of it anyways
Binged watched s4 just to finish this video. Worth it
Aside from the great video, congrats on hitting 1k man!
Appreciate it!
Great content you’ve earned a sub from me keep up the good work
Appreciate it!
Great video essay!
" its good now " its always been good its great now.
next seasons story arch will be even bigger on character development
Good is an understatement
Just addressing the title. It was always good.
I remember finishing Damachi when 3 and 4 wasn't out man now i gotta rewatch season 1 and 2. Feels like i don't remember anything now
Writing be damned, I think the familia war arc at the start of season 2 is so much fun and good character intro for a lot of the supporting cast going forward
the fourth season genuinely had me questioning if most of the characters would actually make it out alive
Very good video, how do you have so few subs. You deserve a lot more!
Thanks!
I liked the video and it showed some good perspektive ty
To me this is a great series from start to finish, even with the cut and changes. Heck it brought me back into anime. But yes, the light novels are way better, yet even still, the anime is still awesome, which proves that the source material is just up there.
DanMachi is one of a few anime I wish I could watch again for the first time. Absolutely love this series
FYI, the Light Novels (LN) are amazing!!!!! The show is great but the LN are way way better!
I'll have to check them out one day
I can't think of too many shows or movies that are better than the books if read first before seeing the show or movie😮
"very close to a thousand subscribers"
13 days later... 1.9k
That was a hell of a call to action. I insta subbed haha nj brother!
This video certainly got much bigger than I anticipated lmao
Great video!
if you think about it it makes sense
season to season bell is basically building his party and as such the world cant be explored as much as we want we mainly see him grinding
when the party is complete is when we really get to see the series shine
Interesting. I wasn't aware people felt that way. It's been my favorite anime from the get-go. Got the courage to wear my Aiz t-shirt out today in Kyoto. Might be why I haven't been able to find any merch yet, I guess.
I think it's great to feel passionate about a series, so glad you got the courage to wear it. I don't think anyone ever really disliked Danmachi, but it never really got high levels of respect either until now
@@danyul- It's always like that with good fantasy or isekai anime. People like to complain that isekai anime are now boring because of tropes and what not and when you ask them to give good examples of isekai they'll give you mainstream ones. They'll not mention anime like Danmachi, Grimgar, Somali, Land of The Lustrous.
@@asandax6 I do adore Somali and the Forest Spirit, hopefully the author can return to working on it one day, though it seems kinda bleak.
@@danyul- It's like a mix of Made In Abyss and The Promised Neverland (Still waiting for season 2) without the dark parts. My little sisters love it.
2:32 Brother where did you find that Lili portrait from, I've searched high and low for one for my own videos and they're nowhere as clean as this one ;-;
Nonetheless, great video! I definitely feel the same and am truly impressed at how far this series has come.
Just googled "Lili danmachi png" and it was right there 💀
@@danyul- Bro my google image search game is absolute trash omg 💀
Great vid dude
Appreciate the kind words
I am rewatchimg it right now second time and it's actually amazing second time around really forgot how good it was.
The volume that season 4 was adapted from was the best rollercoaster of doom and despair I've ever read in a novel
Season 2 final few episodes with Freya invading Ishtar is what got me hooked. The first season was solid and i was falling off during the second, but when Freya invades and lays waste to the Ishtar Familia, it reeled me in.
It's always been good
People just love to look for it's bad part rather than appreciating all it's good side
Majority of people who hates danmachi never actually tried to even watch / understand the series
If you combine danmachi + sword oratoria novel
It's one of the best 2 side fantasy series
Great vid 👍🏾
Even when just the first season came out, I always told my friends to watch it like 24/7. Even after the popularity bottomed out and the season 2 wasn't coming out for years I still loved it.
Good NOW? My brother in Christ it's been ballin af since it started airing. That minotaur fight from season 1 holds it's place as one of my favorite anime fight scenes of all time.
bro holy shit season 4 parts 1 and 2 were so unbelievably good, those two parts skyrocketed this show prolly into my top 10
caught up to the light novel and I'm glad I did. this show is well done. this arc has been great and the next couple arcs are way better imo.
Danmachi became one of my favorite anime for one reason. The fighting animation. They just do a great job animating the fights and I have no shame living my 12 year old power fantasy through them.
Didn’t know the movie wasn’t cannon
I always assumed (because of the title and some promo visuals) that it was a harem anime where the main plot is that Bell goes into the dungeon primarily to pick up girls. Like he would wait until they were in trouble and then sweep in at the last minute.
Damn that is not at all what this show is. Just finish season 4 part 2 and its been a great time
He actually does that in what will be Season 5.
After someone puts a magical gun to his head and forces him to do it.
always been found of danmachi. it scratches that fantasy anime itch while not being an isekai
It's kind of wild how many fantasy anime are isekai instead of just a typical fantasy. I suppose probably because it checks the boxes of easy to use writing tool and gives people the ability to self insert
Good stuff :D
my personal favorite scene in season 1 is bell vs the Minotaur I get chills every time I watch it
I Think my favorite part about danmachi's lore, is how we are lead by the story into believing it is a wholesome story while in reality we are seeing it throught the filter of Bell's innocent and naive mind, the world has some sad terrible backstory from wars, slavery, racism, mass genocide, there's some terrible people and the gods aren't saints either, they are bored people who would gladly murder half a town for the sake of "Enterteinment".
The power system throught fauna is also pretty unique.
The animation also really leveled up in season 4. Like that boss fight is so fucking cool
This show was heat from the beginning
Also, love to see people enjoying fourth season, the Juggernaut arc is fucking amazing. It's a non-stop 2 book marathon of pretty much just constant action, and about every single new event is filled with pure terror. It grabs the og feeling that got me into the series (The main gang getting stranded during the first season) and just pumps it up to 11
The dungeon is scary af and the life threatening moments feel personal
