This show is all of my guilty pleasures slapped together and turned up to 11. I just love the fact Cid in Shadow mode is LITERALLY thinking at any given moment, "What is the edgiest thing I can say right now?" and then says just that.
Oh man, i was shocked by the way the animators went for the fight, a single movement of muscle was instant death and she stepped back. Her confidence and self esteem was shattered and he couldn't care less
When Cid has a detailed monologue in episode 1 detailing how wonderful weapon a crowbar is, where the whole point is "I learned I can punch through armor by hitting them with the pointy end," I knew this series was for me. And it didn't disappoint.
This show completely took me by surprise. I started watching it when the season was 5 episodes in ( I like to give new anime time to air 5 episodes before I start in) and after that, I watched it week to week. Every episode left me eagerly waiting for a week to pass so I could jump back into the madness. If I were to rate all the anime that has released over the last year based on how much I anticipated each episode week to week, this would be number 1.
to be fair a crowbar is a really fucking good improvised weapon, shit could be a blunt weapon, stabby stabby, hell Arnis with crowbars is fuckin terrifying
Yea, episode 1 hooked me almost immediately, I got super hyped during the crowbar fight, and was completely blindsided when the episodes ends with "surprise, it's an isekai!" (i don't read summaries ahead of time). The fact they show the actual death scene as him not accidentally dying but in fact intentionally running into traffic screaming at the top of his lungs ISEKAIIII really set the tone to 11, and I was there for it every week!
My favourite part was when Sid heard an ominous line after being "saved" so he dedicated the entire fuckin' night to running around a vampire infested town saving people while repeating the exact same ominous fuckin' line to the people he saved while having 0 fuckin' clue what ANY of it means.
I think one of the biggest selling points from this show as well, is just the VA work for Shadow. Dude nails every corny phrase, while exuding some pure badassery and terror when it calls for it, then jumping back down to sounding like your common redditor. And it works, to a shocking degree.
Haven't watched it yet, but felt like gigguk was overselling the show from what I remembered feeling when reading it. It was fun, sure, but in a very mediocre way and I ended up dropping it in the abandonment arc. The he showed the full clip of "I am _ATOMIC",_ and I realized why he loves it so much. The sound design is, as you put it, godlike. This seems like one of those adaptations that is clearly superior to the source material. *At least if I can extrapolate the rest of the show from that one scene (like I said, haven't watched it yet).* Honestly, fairly much alike 'reincarnated as a sword' in that way. Soundtracks and voice-acting and overall cool animation for the magic and combat scenes carrying and synergistically enhancing what was a rather mediocre comedy otherwise.
My theory is that MC is in a coma ever since getting hit by that truck. It's the only thing that makes sense - and explains how his random made up plot immediately becomes real.
Man, I loved that episode when the eminence in the shadow said: "Yes, I am the eminence in the shadow" and eminenced in the shadowed every enemy on screen, truly an eminence in the shadow moment.
well, he got kinda screwed by the princess knowing/realizing what he was actually doing and bull shited him with accepting. the funny part came when somehow the princess wanted the whole thing to continue/be real relation and he refused in the most BadA$$ way.
The start of the manga was hilarious, he is SUPER macho and is like "I blend in perfectly, COMPLETELY inconspicuous" while looking like the incredible hulk.
Honestly the first Atomic hit so hard and funny and they did it really nicely. 2nd one's line was a bit more cringey and less cool. Third one was cool because he was just playing around and not actually using it. Man EIS is the best isekai I've seen. Sure Mushoku is art, Rezero is great but isekai is only captured by the fun you have along the way.
@@hughmungus4730 Honestly, Danmachi has the best sound design I've ever heard in an anime next to Made in Abyss. Just to be clear, I'm talking sound effects and design, not music. Kevin Penkin did the music in MiA and it's pretty hard to beat.
the piano got me in tears, other anime will just put the piano in the sewers, eminence went: "but how did it got there?" and show us, and then in contrast of the ridicoulnes of stealing a piano they just went with the most edgy scene ever... man i love this anime
I fucking loved that part so much! The police going over the scene like "it was here, then it vanished" like who the fuck steals a full ass piano in the day time? Brilliant.
The best part for me is how much that scene meant to Princess Rose and to him its just like "Damn I've always wanted to play piano in a moonlit underground chapel-like part of the sewers."
is the dumb idea of “i’m trying to not be serious so it’s funny” BUT FAILS AT THAT REALLY HARD! there is an skill involved in trying to be a parody! and this anime and manga ain’t one
@ERMER Yeah which sucks. the Manga has insanely funny moments that almost made me shard. also some of it actually makes sense in the manga. like in the very first ep. Since he aspires to become the Strongest obviously despite being a teenage boy he has a RIpped AS FUCK body.
It actualy don't make sense specialy when you realize that cid is intelligent(although insane) and sophisticated at what he does. He won't make himself that buff that will make him stand out, and standing out is something his avoiding specialy on earth because the thing that he does is technically criminal(vigilantesism) and he knows it.
Honestly I'm glad you said it because I randomly think about that scene. Like damn bro, you're going to kill that many people for CLOUT? the only one who witnessed it already knew you were strong!
Honestly for the first two episodes I was thinking of dropping it but somehow couldn’t. Then I realised that even though I am way, way past 13, this show embodies everything that I had ever dreamed of as a child. This show is avenging my lost dreams. Not only that but I feel it brought back the 13 year old in me and I love it. Plus the openings are fire
Same, I couldnt find myself enjoying in the first episodes and thought of leaving it be but thought Id keep going and it ended up becoming one of my all time favorites.
I think this is a good description but it's hard to imagine. I would just say it is an Isekai that is self-aware it is a trash Isekai and executes all of the Tropes intentionally so unashamedly that it becomes an overpowered comedy. I'd say it has more in common with One-Punch Man than Overlord but superficially it pretends to be an Overlord ripoff.
I just woke up, saw a UA-cam short of the very first "I... Am... ätœmîç", binged all 20 episodes and now I'm here. I'd never even heard of this show before this morning and now I don't think I'd be able to live without it.
You and me both, i know it's cringe but it's the first cringe that rolls with the cringe so well it ain't somehow cringe..... SOMEBODY HELP ME MAKE THIS MATHEMATICALLY SENSE!!!! I'm stuck in an ever changing labyrinth in my own head, Trying to figure this shit out, also i'mma beg for at least 8 seasons
The Eminence in Shadow was one of the most hilarious and self-aware shows I've seen in a while. Definitely hyped for season 2. I really appreciate a show that purely embraces the cringe and OWNS it. Regarding the MC, Cid is definitely a breath of fresh air. Absolute gigachad energy, doesn't get flustered when talking to women, doesn't pretend to be a "moral" or "good" person, just runs around doing a little bit of trolling (and nuking) in pure Chuuni style.
Some writers think making the character aloof and detached is how you make a show self aware, but that's wrong. This show only works because of how deeply committed Cid is to the LARP.
This is honestly one of the most enjoyable anime that I've watched in years. Ultimately, it also proves Garnt's theory in the stages of weebdom. I am back where I started, which is not watching highly sophisticated plot heavy series but simply enjoying dumb and fun shows.
@@fieryelf I have always preferred more lighthearted shows because of that reason. Especially because a lot of the drama / heavy plot twists in a lot of shows feel like their only reason for existence is to be exactly that, and not to fit into the story.
The funny part is, the show has a TON of actual story and deep shit to it... its just hard to see because every time you get close to it Cid just kinda... Shadows all over it? I am glad Gigguk said it reminded him of One Punch Man because that is what I have been telling my friends the whole time since it feels so similar to me. All the other characters have all this deep, intricate interactions between one another. They fight desperately against a foe they have no hope of truly beating. As they reach the end of their ropes and you expect some bullshit plot device to get pulled out of their ass like friendship or something to defeat the baddy... Saitama shows up and kills the bad guy no problemo. Eminence in Shadow has the EXACT SAME ENERGY to that and I love it.
@@fieryelf that is the most known secret ever. Obviously an over saturation is bad too but entertainment that is cheesy and dumb sells, every time. Like know one thought the expendables was "good" as a deep story, it was fun tho. same with the Fast movies
This is probably one of the only a handful "harem, OP, Isekai" that I found super fun to watch as a female. If I was in Cid's world, I'd certainly hope I have invisibility and shield magic so I can just watch everything he does and carry popcorn with me.
Dude when he says "Atomic" I feel like my ears got most definitely indecently and inappropriately touched. They perfectly recreated the feeling you get when that creepy person whispers in your ear. I loved this show and I want more.
@@azfar188 yeah compared to any light novel eminence in shadow had the most episodes for any light novel volume. For one volume they had 9 episodes while me an overlord fan are anime have 3 to 4 episodes a volume with 12 episodes a season.

@@LaKingLuck NO, it will get some more seasons. Season three will have even more fucking crazing cinge 10x scenes. He will go back into his old world, and now magic had come to exist in old world and he will do some crazy shit and will bring back the girl who he saved in his original world with him to his current world. Apparaently he told beta to take useful things with him and beta along with the things picks up the girl as an instruction manual as to how to use those things.
my absolute favorite part is that cid doesn’t even know he’s getting the story shit right, he just thinks the girls he saved are going along with his role playing because they feel bad for him. like they are wholeheartedly devoted to him and built this empire for him and he just thinks they’re being nice because he saved them. but also the scene where he takes a step and vanishes just to reappear behind the person he’s fighting, implying he was so fast not even the air noticed that he moved was honestly cold af. one of the few anime scenes, next to scenes like the hanami fight from JJK, that made me jump up and down like a little kid.
It wasnt that he was so fast, in the ln it said something like, his swordplay is natural, like the falling rain or flashing thunder, you dont pay attention to natural things like droplets of the rain so it slips out of one consciousness. Basically his swordplay becomes one with nature itself and the mind stops to take notice of him.
well he IS very fkign fast, but he also has tricks , like in the manga he wanted to cheat on a test as was planning to move to fast to see but manipulate the wind so he wouldnt create a shockwave
@@Insorainity they're probably having fun honestly. most VAs got into voice acting by watching different types of shows and among them are those who enjoys anime more than anyone

@@ashutoshkumar12a46 I don't care, I have never watched konosuba and I'm not even interested in watching it. Now The Eminence in Shadow? That's some shit I wanna watch
Going in blind it started as like a normal isekai but with very fluid fight animation. The first time witnessing the glorious atomic line will not be forgotten. Ep19,20 is so well done. What a bang it ended on. And S2 is announce immediately. The studio is so confident and gets it.
They deserve to be confident, I knew the source material and this still blew me away. The studio put out a better anime than I could have ever expected from the sources material.
19 was great, but 20 for me was stretched out. The fight didn't really need to go everywhere in the city; also Iris, someone who determined to protect the country, was causing collateral damage everywhere just trying to catch someone she can't beat.
@Aruim I think that was sort of the point. It was expanding on the same idea as her using an artifact despite finding them shameful. Doing everything she could, throwing everything she had at him, even to the degree of damaging what she swore to protect and throwing away her pride, and it was all useless.
S2 ended. sadly the production is off. Alpha and Beta looks very diff. the fights looks less badass. But but the last 5min of ep12 back on earth is good again. Guess the A team came back for the send off. When 'highest' started for the end credit chef kiss. Hope team A works on the movie.
I love this show SO FRIGGEN MUCH. like...the idea he just has a checklist of "cool lines to say" is glorious. being a chuuni in an ACTUAL magic world...and then still acting like a secret chuuni and just...somehow thinking the girls are just playing along with his fantasy, lol
The greatest part of this checklist is that HE SPENT LIKE FOUR HOURS IN HIS CHAIR FACING THE WINDOW PRACTICING "I've been expecting you" and just hoping for someone to walk in as he's saying it. Shadow ignores his harem because he's already in a dedicated relationship with The Bit
I think what really makes Eminence in Shadow so great is it really nails that balance between making a super OP, power fantasy protagonist; while also having that self awareness where they're not afraid to make him the butt of a joke for being a dorky-edgelord
@@evoke97 Oh, he's a dork. He's just a very skilled, very dangerous dork who has no self-awareness and even less care what YOU think of him. It's HIS power fantasy, and you're living (or dying) in it.
@@segevstormlord3713 i really don't think dork is the correct word at all. he literally has a harem of gorgeous girls and is the most powerful being in existence, not socially awkward or anything and doesn't do the typical mc thing of blushing with beautiful girls. literally a gigachad instead of a dork lol
Honestly I just love how much fun they clearly had making it. The scene where two of the harem are arguing over their boob size and the camera slides away to a random gardener playing with a cat while the argument completely fades into the background is great.
That's part of the fun, we already know the cliché conversation they're going to have, in fact the show knows it so well that, just like Cid, instead of watching something cliché and boring, it does something better with its time like watching a gardener play with a cat, and that's magical
or how the girls are helplessly thirsting over cid and then u have the usual clueless but like permanently stunlocked cringe mc but not cid , he has NO CLUE in the slightest and also not a shred of lust in his eyes and thats what makes it funnny, even when delta is litteraly grinding against his crotch he doesnt even bat an eye
@gamingyoshi2280 I also think the main reason he doesnt notice these things is simply because he doesn't care. He has no interest in that since to him it wouldn't make sense for any of his characters.
it's true though xD I was thinking about the same from the beginning of the season while recruiting elfs as his shadow guards xD and asking " HOW IS IT POSSIBLE?! "
It'll be funny if he somehow has heirs and children, even though he NEVER SLEPT with any of his women. The girls are down bad for him so badly, I wouldn't be surprised if they are crazy enough to 'try' anything, like making a child clone of him using his dna or something?
lol how can you get it wrong when the clip is right above the comment section :D "the man fucks without losing his virginity, because he never looses" .. but i agree on one thing ,that line got me as well :D
This anime is one of my favorites. The best part is the fact that he's hyper-aware that what he's doing is an act and bullshitting some fake story. He isn't even aware that the story he's weaving is actually true. He also thinks that everyone around him is well aware that he's putting on an act and goes along with it just to humor him. He doesn't even know he's legit got a harem of shadow assassins at his beck and call and I find all of that supremely entertaining.
This contributes to a lot of the comedy too in my opinion, because there's a lingering anticipation and curiosity of "what the hell would happen if something happened in just the right way to either make cid realize that all of this is real or expose to his shadow garden comrades that he thinks they're all just larping together for fun, how the hell would they think of him and all the work they've done so far", because that could be a pretty goddamn hilarious scene in itself. Instead, the man has a script running in his head translating everything he experiences into the common sense of his past life, meaning "there is no shadow organization hellbent on world domination even though I wish there was, there's no way girls would have feelings for me" etc since that's what his last life was like. Baddies with swords and magic kidnap your sister? Must be bandits that your larp friends made up a fun story for to enjoy kicking their asses more. A princess talks to you about love and your future together with you for hours on your way to vacation? (don't remember how much of this was shown in the anime but it went into good depth in the manga and novel, and the princess in question was Rose, not Alexia). She must be trying to push some strange religion or cult on you, better shut up and feign acceptance until you can get away. Pretty much all of shadow garden idolizes him and definitely all of the main female characters save for like Iris, Beatrix, and maybe his sister would either marry him (whether that's as "Cid" or "Shadow") the second he asked or if he asked after dating for two weeks, but he always has some internal explanation for why their adoration and affection must instead be some loose attachment from shared hobbies or gratitude at best, finding him convenient somehow at worst. He constantly thinks he's just enjoying larping out what he wishes his dream was like and having a good time doing it while also internally lamenting that the real thing doesn't exist, completely oblivious to the fact that he is literally living his dream. He isn't larping, but he's the only one who doesn't know it isn't larp. He's literally living his dream but is too dense to realize it. He's also drowning in all the female affection from women (of such high quality as to have no right existing in such a ridiculous comedy) that a man could possibly want, but ironically Cid himself probably has less romantic desire than 90% of MCs out there and possibly wouldn't think much of it even if he knew beyond just thinking "of course a real eminence in shadow would be brimming with allure and mystique that captures the hearts of women simply because of how goddamn cool he is, they have good taste, a shame this is just larp and not the real thing" even if I myself think one or many of these women deserve to end up happy with him despite himself lmao. The humor in this, especially in the manga and light novels, just has so many layers it's ridiculous. It may be simple and stupid in some regards, but on closer inspection the framework that constructs that stupidly straightforward cringey edgelord humor is actually a bit complex and layered. It's a masterwork of pushing something to the extreme to maximize the comedy. The author is a genius and he better keep the novels coming.
@@trevorthompson6825 Cid/Shadow really are the epitome of "fake it till you make it" Alternatively they're also what happens when you do something for ironic humor long enough, after a while it becomes genuine, like how I said "pog" ironically and then it became part of my vocab.
Cid knew about the Cult , just that he think of them as some weak flashy pushover organization which ,so far from his point of view, he is totally right. He believed there are a more secret organization behind the Cult, think that his 2 friends are part of it, call to spy on him. Also, Cid is actually very knowledgeable about ancient legend and history and went around finding them.
The final episode's fight scene was so beautifully done and felt so cool to watch it unfold while everyone is looking in confusion as everything falls apart around them in a instant.
God the best part is how he fucking trolled EVERYBODY including the damn audience with his blue-balling us on one final epic "I am atomic" scene. Truely a sigma male gigachad moment.
When i fooling around and don't take anything seriously in a multiplayer game. Finishing the game I'm the MVP... Receiving hate messages from the other team for not stopping running around. And myself still wondering how I'm first place.
I think the best way to describe eminence in shadow is using an integer analogy: Eminence in Shadow cranked the cringe up *so high* that it caused an integer overflow and became cool again
I genuinely love this show so much. From the fact that the first episode was such a bait and switch, introducing you to side characters only for Cid to just fugg off to a new world and completely forget his past life, to the fact that Cid himself doesn't even realize that all the stuff he made up is actually real and not just a fanfic. Actually great show, highly recommend it.
At this point in our culture, "I am The Eminence in Shadow." line feels similar to "It`s Morbin time!". A definite add-on to our bucket list to watch. Edit: Thank you everyone for the 1K Likes!
As someone who have read the manga and light novel before watching the anime, the first episode really told me that who ever made the adaptation were fully committed in doing it.
Yep. Rather than OPM, I think it draws a lot from Gurren Lagaan. It just turns all the dials to eleven and doesn't look back. It doesn't care about character arcs or third acts or cliches. It's like seeing someone dance like nobody is watching.
If the show wasn't self-aware, I highly doubt it'd be this successful. The jokes hit way harder because of this trait, and generally makes me more invested in watching more. I just hate shows or games that do stupid shit and don't AT LEAST acknowledge how dumb what just happened is. A good example of another great self-aware game is Hi-Fi rush, and how the world (Magically) is in rhythm with your character, they poke fun of that then dismiss it.
@@wolfboos Being self-aware doesn't necessarily mean pointing it out specifically within its own context. I actually kind of find that "meta" stuff a bit annoying. It 's better if it's self-aware in the sense of not giving a fucking shit and doing it in full confidence that despite it being silly, over the top, or otherwise ridiculous, you WILL enjoy it. Gurren Lagann as mentioned before is the perfect example of this. Most Trigger animes are. Completely over the top, and leans into it so much that it's hard not to love.
@@64-96 Oh yeah, being self-aware alone is not enough for sure, though since this was the topic of this comment, I just thought about that. But yeah, I agree with what you said.
Eminence in Shadow is like when you just stop off for some fast food, and end up getting a fresh, well made burger that actually makes you happy you thought about stopping.
I am atomic Is literally one of the most memorable parts of anime for me. Me and my gf laughed so hard when we heard it but were also so flabbergasted because how cool it was
In general, He used Atomic at the end, but the direction was towards the sky. He, like Saitama, dispersed all the clouds in the sky (Fight against the Sea King, The rain ended immediately)
This was unironically an amazing show. I laughed so hard so many times. It's deliciously self aware and almost breaks the 4th wall a couple times. The mc just debates with himself what the best plot would be. It's also amazingly animated and the sound effect are so on point all the time. The production value is higher than I first thought after watching this video. Thx gigguk for giving shows like this more attention.
"The mc just debates with himself what the best plot would be." I'm in. Was wondering what yall meant by self aware but if they pull that off its gatta be pretty slick
Eminence in Shadow is the first anime that made me binge 5 episodes in a row since GinTama. Also, a show that includes the lines "I am atomic!" and "How did I get on the rom-com protagonist route?" needs to be praised night and day. What a great show!
My favourite part of this was in like episode 4 or 5 or something where shadow garden returns to him and starts talking about how they have over 100 members and are storming the evil cult and this dude is just like “wow they’re still going along with this fantasy for me, did they hire extras or something?” And even after nuking a whole city, and killing dozens if not hundreds of cultists he is just like “wow these guys really commit to the role”
I am over 50 and I love this anima, I have been reading the Manga since it came out and have waited for someone to turn it into a anime. Long live Cid!
preach on man. i followed this since it was a web was overjoyed when it went light novel, then watched it soar into this insane anime. i knew everything that was going to happen and STILL had fun watching it. long live cid
The funny thing is the fact that the studio goes so hard on some of the animation 😂. The batte scene is wayyyy to good. Also the VA is having too much fun doing Cid
Alright but for real though. That very first "I am atomic" scene is so bad it's good. I absolutely love that scene and it still gives me goosebumps when he says "atomic." What a bomb ass sound mix.
It was the combination of the buildup, the cringy but somehow perfect French way of saying atomic with light reverb followed by complete silence. Then blam. Masterfully executed dumpster fire.
I love how it fully immerses itself in cringy chuuni fantasy. That the MC is fully aware of it and decides to go 110% into it simply because it's his passion is something I can respect. He knows people wont be impressed by it, but he doesn't care. He loves it and it's all that matters.
The best part is that the cringe stuff doesnt "just happen". The MC goes out of his way to make them happen. He prepares the scene, he sets up the lightning, he waits for the perfect dramatic moment, he probably learns cool lines to say late at night. All for both the MC and the background character roles. And he always goes to aboslutely ridiculous lenghts for it.
MC always wanted to be a "Hero" so there is nothing chuuni about it, he's not Imagining that he is a Hero, he was actually trying to become one. Also don't be like Gigguk and say anything that is anime related cringe, times have changed, something that was cringe before now is just normal deal with it.
Cringe is as cringe does, people who narruto run will always be being. Anime cons will have variety of cring. And this protagonist is mega cring, but the results and his passion for it are commendable. Not sure if I’d call him a hero since he does good or backstabs his own allies is he thinks it’s “cool”
@@Immerteal Not really, he makes stuff up which coincidentally happens to be true which sets up the scene that he stumbles upon. The Order of Diablos for example.
I'm older and enjoyed the heck out of this series. I hope we get more episodes than one piece IF they could keep it going this good but won't hold my breath on that ever happening.
One moment in the series where it just clicked with me how self aware this show is, is the moment where it shows HOW he got Isekai'd. It shows him being all cool and stuff throughout the series, but how he got there: He's in the forest, LITERALLY bashing his head against a rock and screaming "MAGIC, MAGIC, MAGIC, GIVE ME MAGIC" and then proceeding to run into the road attempting to fly like a fucking psycho crazy person with an appropriately unhinged expression to match, _because that's what he actually is at the end of the day._ Realistically, no other kind of person could commit the way cid does to the things he does. All that training, all that talk about trying to become able to withstand a nuclear blast, and he gets undone by truck-kun like a normal ass ordinary isekai protagonist because that's what would happen to someone like cid, its almost kind of an affirmation to you without outright spelling it out of "Yeah, we know this is stupid, and our protagonist is mentally unwell, is there a problem?" and then proceeding to post a gigachad image next to the entire premise of the rest of the series.
Yah i feel like that moment isn’t talked about enough, the mc is borderline insane and would spend his life in an asylum in our world but in the fantasy world that insanity translated to power and influence.
I like to think that yes, he is insane but id specially laser focus on his objective. Once he wants to do something he does the absolute best to achieve it either if that's been a magic user, a sword fighter, an NPC, literally anything that he wants to be he will train to the absolute limit and beyond. And at the same time he is so far remove from anyone and anything around him like him not wanting or caring to have anything with any girl (either shadow Garden members or not).
Apparently him running in front of the truck was an accident - he though those lights were gods or something coming down to give him magic due to the concussion he gave himself from bashing his head on that tree. Which makes the whole thing absolutely hilarious. Look at his face when he realizes it's a truck. "It's at that moment he knew. He fucked up".mp3
Yeah he is definitely insane but tbh.. If i could master any martial arts there is and train my body to absolute perfection and I still cant win against an atomic bomb, I would go insane too....i mean the absolute only thing that could possibly make him more powerful in Rl is a concept that doesn't even exist there lmao
Can we just take a moment to appreciate that at 10:28 the tram going around the giant collumn litterally is on a track that goes nowhere but in a circle around it? When I first saw this i creased.
I fucking loved these episodes. When that vampire girl first said that I thought something like: "Hey finally Shadow has found someone that can be his shadow eminence friend. I bet he wished he came up with that line." and then he started imitating it 😂
@@notroddy not every possible way , it's comedy is 10/10 and exactly my kind of humour but it sometimes favours humour over it's source light novel , whereas anime is trying to make the story seem serious , dark which it really is if not looking from cid's pov and has a good amount of comedy but even when the show is not trying to be that funny it's still very good compared to most comedy anime we get today.

The voices of "I am atomic" and when he caught the enemy in the sanctuarry "Tsukamaeta" literally gave me shivers down my spine, this show surprised me in the weirdest ways possible tbh
The English lines made me laugh a bunch but the audio mixing on "TSUKAMAETA" was genuinely amazing. Same vibe as when Barou breaks through the pack in Blue Lock.

Thing is even when everybody says it's trash, it is actually extremely well made. The style is very deliberately all over the top. And I am always looking if an Anime achieves what it wants to invoke in a person. And I think it really knocked it out of the park. I don't think I will forget it so fast since it is a extreme outlier within Isekai.
Right. I think most people miss the part where this is a very clear parody of the genre - but does it so well that on the surface it looks like just a high quality isekai trash, which is exactly the point.
@@Ragalya Not really a parody, but more like a super aware of itself show that roll with its own absurdity. People saying that Cid is cringe for example completely miss the fact Cid is a Chuuni and roleplay constantly as a cringe anime trope. It's exactly like One Punch Man with Saitama being completely unaware of his impact and the hero society. But you don't see people saying that Saitama is cringe for having his attacks being named serious punch, or that he beat an opponent while screaming he is late for sales.
Because it's not trash, it's a good Isekai, the problem is that people expect to compare them to famous animes, like action shonens like Demon Slayer (to give an example). Another great example of people being like this is my brother, he loves animes like Evangelion, but always says he would like to see a protagonist like Rimuru from Tensei Shitara Slime, however, he doesn't watch it because according to him, he wants something more like Evangelion (complicated plot in a modern world), even though Slime is almost literally the anime he's been looking for in years.
It's absolute peak of trash isekai and cringe executed in a way which only could be read as masterpiece. It's entertaining, it's stupid beyond reason and the whole story is absolute shit. But boy, I have so much fun with that.
This show is all of my guilty pleasures slapped together and turned up to 11.
I just love the fact Cid in Shadow mode is LITERALLY thinking at any given moment, "What is the edgiest thing I can say right now?" and then says just that.
Gotta love him for that.

Mundane Mann vs Iris was insane. When your fighting instinct is so intense it causes your opponent to hallucinate THEIR OWN DEATH.

When Cid has a detailed monologue in episode 1 detailing how wonderful weapon a crowbar is, where the whole point is "I learned I can punch through armor by hitting them with the pointy end," I knew this series was for me. And it didn't disappoint.
The whole time he was having that monologue, I was getting really intrgued at how wonderful a crowbar was and also just how skilled he was
This show completely took me by surprise.
Doctor Freeman would be proud. So wake up Cid, wake up and smell the ashes.

The va is good, the sound design is godlike.

*At least if I can extrapolate the rest of the show from that one scene (like I said, haven't watched it yet).*
Honestly, fairly much alike 'reincarnated as a sword' in that way. Soundtracks and voice-acting and overall cool animation for the magic and combat scenes carrying and synergistically enhancing what was a rather mediocre comedy otherwise.

@@fieryelf I have always preferred more lighthearted shows because of that reason. Especially because a lot of the drama / heavy plot twists in a lot of shows feel like their only reason for existence is to be exactly that, and not to fit into the story.

I am glad Gigguk said it reminded him of One Punch Man because that is what I have been telling my friends the whole time since it feels so similar to me. It wasnt that he was so fast, in the ln it said something like, his swordplay is natural, like the falling rain or flashing thunder, you dont pay attention to natural things like droplets of the rain so it slips out of one consciousness. He said it because earlier in the show he said he wouldn’t be able to survive a nuke in his last life but now he can so he says I am atomic
"I am atomic" is one of the coldest lines in anime history
This anime is one of my favorites. The best part is the fact that he's hyper-aware that what he's doing is an act and bullshitting some fake story. He isn't even aware that the story he's weaving is actually true. He also thinks that everyone around him is well aware that he's putting on an act and goes along with it just to humor him. He doesn't even know he's legit got a harem of shadow assassins at his beck and call and I find all of that supremely entertaining.
So he's also fulfilling the trope of the clueless anime protagonist, incredible
@@trevorthompson6825 Cid/Shadow really are the epitome of "fake it till you make it"
Alternatively they're also what happens when you do something for ironic humor long enough, after a while it becomes genuine, like how I said "pog" ironically and then it became part of my vocab.

Eminence in Shadow cranked the cringe up *so high* that it caused an integer overflow and became cool again

Eminence in Shadow is the greatest satire of the typical power fantasy isekai. It is absolute brilliance
From what I understand it is to Isekai as Bayonetta is to action games? Is that a fair comparison?
it's not so much a satire as simply those tropes taken to their natural extremes. Sort of like JoJo, in a way.
well, it zigzags. Some of the tropes are subverted or parodied.
At this point in our culture, "I am The Eminence in Shadow." line feels similar to "It`s Morbin time!". A definite add-on to our bucket list to watch.

This show is very self-aware and knows what it is and embraces it fully

I love how it fully immerses itself in cringy chuuni fantasy. That the MC is fully aware of it and decides to go 110% into it simply because it's his passion is something I can respect. He knows people wont be impressed by it, but he doesn't care. He loves it and it's all that matters.
In the manga, the cover called it "Misunderstanding Manga!" which is basically the whole eminence in shadow series lol
_EMINENCE IN TROLLING_
In the manga, Cid purposefully gets hit by a truck because he believes being sent to another world can make him more powerful. He was correct.
in the light novel he still doesn't realize it was the truck that hit him and still thinks it was some magic lights
Same in the anime.
I just love how they rolled the credits right after the news of cid dying on Earth in ep1 even though there was more left to the episode.

Yeah, I don't get people saying it's trash or bad or whatever other nonsense. It's a genuinely good show.
But boy, I have so much fun with that.
i have never expected to find an anime so bad it hit critical mass and went backwards to somehow being somewhat good
