Welcome to my channel where I share my simple and peaceful cottage lifestyle. The days are getting shorter and grayer here in the Hudson Valley ... so in this video, I share some of the things I'm implementing to keep happy and calm : ) It's technically not winter yet! But somehow it feels like winter has been here for months! So far, for me, happiness this season has involved thrifting, taking walks, baking, and crafting. And also the use of my trusty light box and a technique I've been using to calm anxious thoughts.

MY WASHING MACHINE ... people often ask what brand it is, and if I like it! The answer is ... yeeees! It's a Costway portable machine and I LOVE it! It's not nearly as fast and efficient to use as a regular washing machine. But if you can't have one for any reason, this little guy can be a real life saver. My sister who just died of ovarian cancer in June told me before she passed that she never felt good enough and when I saw what you wrote it broke my heart and made me cry. YOU ARE NOT ONLY GOOD ENOUGH BUT THE WORLD IS A BETTER PLACE BECAUSE YOU ARE IN IT! I can’t tell how many times that I have watched your channel….. and the first time I was in a hurricane. Your videos help me to forget my grief and your relationship with little Charlie always makes me smile……..so coming from this old lady I consider you priceless!

Hi sweetie! Please don't feel like I'm preaching...I'm a retired psychotherapist and educator who also struggles with anxiety. The most profound thing I ever learned in grad school is this one simple phrase: 'you cannot have a feeling without a thought'. So when anxiety is on the rise, figure out what you're thinking. Exactly like the 2 things you wrote down and burned. Then test them with the 'f' words-is this a fact or a fear? It's almost always an unrealized fear. To calm a racing heart, the most recommended thing is to control your breathing. But do you know why? The lungs are mightier than the heart and have the power to calm it down! Yes, our dear lungs which keep us alive through oxygen intake! God bless your efforts and thank you for making the most beautiful videos on UA-cam!

It's so crazy to think that just a few weeks ago there were still leaves in the trees and green space. Keep warm and cozy dear Kate! We are all so grateful for you and your art. Beautiful video! I too used to struggle desperately with anxiety and tried everything to overcome it. Counseling, diet, exercise, meditation, and the list goes on, and nothing ever really got to the root of the problem. Until a specialist finally explained to me that depression and anxiety, which are closely related, can actually be simply an organic illness, like diabetes, heart, disease, multiple sclerosis, etc. Many of these things are brought on by lifestyle, but are not treatable unless treated with medication. he explained the whole thing about serotonin, and how some bodies just do not produce enough which in turn can cause anxiety and depression. I was at an all time low and decided to try a low-dose of medication which he recommended and it revolutionized my life, and I think actually saved my life. My zest and vigor for life came back, and I do stay on a low-dose all the time now especially in the winter months. I live a completely anxiety free life, and feel healthy happy and thankful to be alive every single day. This, of course, is just my own story❤, and many people may disagree with me. But I am thankful that I was able to find a medication that gave me my healthy life back.
You sound exactly like I was, I also am on a low dose of medication which completely changed my life. I got extremely bad anxiety and depression when my son got killed. Now with the help from my doctor and low dose of non addicted medication I feel wonderful. Blessings to everyone ❤

Same with me. Medication saved my life, and allows me to live with less depression and anxiety. You don't realize how much a chemical imbalance is affecting you, until it's corrected.
I didn't have a problem with anxiety, but did suffer from depression. I'd get home from work and just want to go to bed. And I knew that would be terrible for my children. Medication made the difference -- it removed the weight of depression that was wearing me down and allowed me to be myself, explore life, and have energy and laughter for my children.
Thank you for sharing this. I’m so sorry for the loss of your sister, that is devastating. I have recently been experiencing severe anxiety attacks ( just admitting it here ) since caring for my dad with dementia / working FT for 2 years. I though I was having a heart attack, or breathing issue, but the more I thought about it, the three times it’s happened in the last two week had to do with medical appointments. I’ve gone to my primary and spent 6 hours in the ER two days ago. Time to reach out for some medical help with the emotional distress. Bless you all for the kindness you bring to others.
In my 20s I felt the drive to get married before age 30. Approaching 30, I had lots of anxiety of the worst kind. I did get married at age 31 in my darkest time. The marriage pulled me out of it. Now a widow after 41 years of marriage, I regret marrying, considering everything I was subject to. Life is a gift, not to waste. God is by your side.
You are not alone when speaking about anxiety and your fears. Journaling helps me a little, but retail therapy helps too. Thank you for being so real❤

Hi, it's my first time writing, but I have watched you when I lived in Tennessee, and now back home in Dryden NY, I love your videos. I also try to watch my sugar intake and I'd like to share a cookie recipe with you. It's so easy. take a mashed banana, and put in some oats or oat flour and then add chocolate chips. It's a banana tasting cookie but with chocolate! I don't have the measurements sorry. It is just s cookie I put together. Enjoy!

Big Sur is my favorite place of anywhere I have ever been. I used to live not far from there. Anytime I felt down, that is where I drove to and inhaled the scent of the Redwood Trees. Perked me up instantly. I miss that smell.

Journaling has been so helpful for me in reeling in anxious thoughts! Another exercise that helps me is to write down questions that are troubling me and without trying to overthink, through automatic writing I seem to start a dialogue with an inner voice that is not my own. Much wisdom has been transferred to me this way! You are good enough!
My daughter also suffers from anxieties. I'll tell her to write her worries and fear down, just like you , maybe it will help her some.. Sending love to you and Charlie.

How cosy it all looks with Charlie and the fire. I find with late autumn, early winter i like to make slow cooked meals which has the advantage of having time to clean up before the meal is ready. Perfect to spend cosy evenings without guilt 😉

I watch all your videos. I just love them, especially when I feel the world keeps me too busy and I can't breathe. You seem so relaxed and at ease. I dried some oranges, as you did awhile ago, and I'm so in love with them. The first batch I did, my 2 yr old grandson found and carried them around for an entire day ( I rescued a few). I made a second batch and hung them from one of my Christmas trees. It's a small tree with only white lights, a red bead garland, and now, my orange slices. Love it!!!

I so miss taking walks as that used to help so much but due to my disabilities can no longer do that. You are an amazing person and make such a difference in so many lives, including mine. I love winter in upstate New York, love the holidays so it’s not that but I think like you said fears of deeper things that we really should let go of. I have seven furbabies that I love as much as you love your sweet Charlie so I turn to their unconditional love the way you take your walks. Thank you so much for another awesome video❤

Im working on the giving up of sugar - was on a roll, then Thanksgiving set me back, I'm working at being back on track now - I think it's so much better for my health to go sugar free! Those mushrooms are the cutest. I add unsweetened applesauce to my cookies to give it a tad more sweetness without adding sugar.
I have fireplaces in my living room and bedroom but I have “faux “ fireplaces in my TV room and my mother in laws apt in my basement. They are very cozy!
I half expected Charlies head to pop out of your BOHO tote at the beginning! You look fabulous in that outfit. I hope your anxieties are subsiding. Winter does a number on me after a while with the dreariness of the weather. I need to get one of those sunlamps! When it gets too bad I focus on what I want to do in my garden in the Spring and that helps a lot. So do your videos! Hang in there, you are more than good enough.

I went thirfting today!!!!. They have a thrifting store close by. That now and than they have ( nice) cloths for a dollar..... & There nice. Got a sweater & top for 2.00 yikes what a steel...... Your videos and Charlie bring me joy. You are a beautiful girl inside and out and bring happiness . I have anxiety and find it terribly difficult to do anything with the exception of country driving and thrifting ;) but it helps me. The mushroom garland is gorgeous. Your paintings are so lovely - I think you could open an Etsy shop and sell them! One of the things I have done (usually on the winter solstice) is have a fire and write down on paper the things I am letting go of in the coming year (so those could be things like your fears, habits that aren't serving you, etc.,) and then once you let those burn away, write another sheet with the things that you are welcoming into your life in the coming year, and send that up to the heavens to "materialize." So sorry about your GoPros! Oh so sad to have lost the first one. I think GoPro should be sending you a freebie - even I have looked up GoPros after seeing you mention them. Not in my budget yet, but on the list! We've got some snow up here and the first big snowstorm coming tomorrow...makes me wonder whether you'll be getting snow soon too. Poor Charlie won't be happy!
