I am not English people, but just a stranger. Don't know anything about your actors and actress.
But still, I like to look oldies movies, because some they are nice to look. This movie is nice and I congrats! To this move, it's a good show. ❤....... . Truly. ❤.

Janet Gaynor was not only a terrific actress, but simply one of the most luminous of all the stars of that age and even now. Thanks for sharing this wonderful film.

Beautiful, as all the Southern old world... It deserves to be fully restored.

Interesting old movie, full of the pride and lies of our conjoined history. Beautiful acting throughout.

Painful racial stereotypes but I look at it as a glimpse of the past we've left behind whether actual or in literature. This is a great film.

Always a pleasure to see the great Henrietta Crosman, who was amazingly the niece of Stephen Foster!

Janet Gaynor was Fox's most reliable female star through the latter 1920's and into the mid-1930's. The first Best Actress Oscar winner in 1929 for three Fox films: "Sunrise", "Street Angel" and "Seventh Heaven". Many Fox films were lost in a 1937 fire; good to know George Eastman House has a copy. It's likely not seen because of it's portrayals of blacks, the antebellum South and portrayals of tobacco use. But she wasn't much in Darryl Zanuck's plans when his Twentieth Century Pictures bought the bankrupt Fox Film a year after this. Her next big film was 1937's "A Star is Born" for Selznick International Pictures. And you get Shirley Temple for a couple of minutes; she appeared in cameos in several movies before starring in her own.

It's fascinating to see Janet Gaynor beyond just clips. She was impressive, but the underlying racism is difficult to overlook.

Never seen this film before. I liked Robert Young and most of his films. This looks like the earliest full length movie of Shirely Temple who was about 6 years old.

Great actors of their time. Today's actors don't come close to their talent. But the racist language in this movie is hard to listen to.

Agreed, but outside the inappropriate dialogue the writing in these old movies is so much better than today’s.

the script was a train wreck. it was like watching a long Phillip Morris cigarette commercial.

@@berthesghostwas it edited a bit? The story seemed a bit "jumpy". Amazing that peddling death was made out to be a good thing.

I read some novels written in the 1800s and the attitudes to blacks and Jews was terrible.

Great old actors = fabulous! Treatment of an entire race of people created by God = disgusting! Manipulative destructive matriarchs = horrendous! Little Shirley Temple = so cute!!

Speechless...just in time for the Restoration of the Confederacy.... Such a Radio active film. Wish Kamala Harris could have seen this film when decided to go all "Southern" before Black Voters. Definitely a film that could use a Lot of CRT.
