    I always wondered why my curls get tighter or look “better” on a wash day after straightening my hair. This definitely proves that damaged curls are much tighter and fuller. I love that you talked about this, you’re the only person i’ve seen shine light on this. It’s def important to know 🤍

      What? Damaged curls are tighter? Who told you?

    • @StormyDay
      @StormyDay Рік тому +5

      Same here! Well think about it scientifically, unless your hair is so damaged it snaps, when you straighten for a while and then let it go curly, it’s going to be curlier!

    I’m so glad someone finally touched on this topic. When I wasn’t cleansing my hair often enough and using way too many heavy oily products my curls were drier and kinkier. But now that I’ve finally found a consistent wash routine and used products that are compatible with my hair, my curls are not only healthier but so much looser to the point I thought I damaged it. Come to find out my hair is just healthy.
    Not many people in the curly/natural hair community talk about this enough and so we’re so quick to buy all of these treatments and deep conditioners to restore our hair that doesn’t quite need restoration. Your curls are also very pretty and look so soft btw 😍😍

    Mine has done the same exact thing over the past few years! Its really healthy and super long do the curls are pulled out by gravity. I'm looking g for a stylist to get it cut into layers to hopefully get more bounce and volume back. Thank you for sharing your journey over these years, you've been a great help and encouragement!

    you look beautiful with both looser and tighter curls! my hair has done the same and it is a bit of a hard adjustment, especially with the curly hair police that gatekeep what texture “counts as curly” or if your hair is “just wavy” but it doesnt matter either way

      My hair would break. Especially the sides. I would slick it back tight when wet so it would stay all day and night in the summer months. I learned as the hair dries it shrinks then snap!

    i appreciate these hair updates so much! when i first started watching hair care vids and trying to take care of my curls, i struggled a lot bc it would never look like the voluminous defined bouncy curls everyone i watched had. i didnt realize that it was just bc i never heat/color treated my hair and it was just healthier so i needed different techniques. it's definitely been a process learning what my hair can and can't do and that even though it's different, it's still gorgeous

    It's very beautiful to see you embracing the change your hair has gone through! I'm actually currently dealing with the same thing right now. I used to straighten my hair all my child life until I was a freshman in high school and that's where I started my curly hair journey. I'm currently 24 years young so that's about almost 10 years now!! Oh man I kind of sound old when I put it that way, lol jk. When I first started my curly hair journey my hair was loving all the different loving it was getting from products + water. Then, it grew out pretty long like past my chest. I cut it after that and she was super short and springy! I absolutely loved that time. Then, most recently I've noticed my hair is getting much drier and doesn't seem to be growing. Once I receive this long awaited trim and layering I can only imagine how my curls are going to react 😍
    Your content is very aesthetically pleasing and calming! Keep up the wonderful work Queen 👑

    Ah this helped me so much! I have been following you for years and we’re actually the same age. From age 16-19 my hair was SUPER SUPER curly. And the last couple of years it’s less curly all of a sudden and I am kinda sad about it and was wondering why that would be (besides of course puberty hormones ending). But my hair was a LOT dryer and damaged in those ages! So that explains a lot! 🙏🏼

      You could try some Amla powder hair pack. It can bring back some oomph to curls. It will be shiner for sure and helps the hair grow as well. If you’re blond there’s a chance of it slightly darkening the hair I have dark brown so I don’t see anything. Most people don’t but there is that chance. FYI

    Your hair has always been so beautiful! ❤️ love your volume. Mine used to be the same way but after doing the CG method it ruined my curls so I went back to using silicones and the products I used before that honestly had always worked for my hair before I even heard of CG method. Just remember that not all curly girls are the same and not every product works for us all. At the end of the day we know our hair best since we were born with it after all lol. I’ve watched your videos for a long time and have always loved your honesty with your subscribers.

    • @Willowy13
      @Willowy13 Рік тому +1

      Gosh! I thought I was an unicorn. CG did the exact same thing to me to the point people were asking what was happening to my hair. I was going bald. My hair had thinned, was dry, opaqque and my 3a/3b pattern became 2b/2c/3a.
      Blood tests came back ok. My doc gave a diagnostic of androgenetic alopecia, which I didn't accept as this doesn't run in my family.
      Short story, I turned to my routine and realized my problems started with CG. I went back to sulfate and silicones. Nioxxin did woders for me. although it dried my hair.
      Minoxidil became part of my routine, while I couldn't use oils/butter in my hair. It was almost impossible to find products without these (Redken Extreme) was my savior.
      All in all, almost four years latter I am way better. The only thing that never came fully back was the curl pattern as I had curls from my roots.

    I’ve been going natural for a bit longer than a year and completely stopped heat styling for almost 4 months. Compared to last year I have definitely seen a change in my curl pattern and it’s been a bit less springy and more natural looking. It still have some very tight curls though but some are also just 3A hairs. I wasn’t like most people who have had curly hair since they were born, I actually had straight hair (not PIN straight but mostly straight with a few waves) up until I hit puberty. None of my family members but I have this much curly hair so I never knew how to take care of it and would always put it in a braid or bun when I didn’t straighten it. It was not until 10th grade last year when I stared going natural and it was thanks to me finding one of your videos! Your hair pattern is really similar to mine and I love watching your videos! ❤❤

    Jayme jo! You’ll always be my curly girl queen! I began my curly girl journey because of your videos ❤. I was exited for this particular video because I noticed that my hair had changed a lot in the past year. I think it’s mainly due to water! I moved to the uk last year and the water here is very hard and I’m from a soft water region in California and so I totally see the difference in my hair! I also got so much build up and flaky scalp due to the water. I am moving back to California in 3 months because I was just studying here for a year and I can’t wait for my hair to be cleansed with soft water again! I hope this is the reason? I’m not sure yet. Thanks for your videos! Will def check out the textured spray for my hair aswell thank you!

    I loveeee your videos so much! You've helped me so much with my hair. I feel like lately I've been noticing my curl pattern changing and will defiantly be trying this! I defianlty thinks mines been changing due to overmoisturizing but also because of the seasons I think. During the winter time, its dryer where i live and so using leave in was good to not get frizz but now that's it summer, my hair is flat triangular shape (you know what I mean, if you know what I mean), Its less curly and FRIZZY, so I'm so excited to try this and thankyou so much for all your help!!!

It’s better now and I’m back to shedding the normal amount of strands each time I wash. My curl pattern used to be tighter and thicker too. Back when I would dye my hair, my curls were a lot more tighter and bouncier. It's been years since then and I have cut all the dyed hair off and for sure my curls are a lot more softer. I've been thinking about cutting a few inches off to see if that would help as well. I have also noticed that I can't use heavy products either like Shea butter or some coconut creams really weigh my hair a lot. Also, I must admit I've been wearing my hair in a slicked bun and I know that definitely isn't helping my curls either 😢 this was really interesting to listen to as I haven't really thought about all this myself so thank you ❤ do you have any recommendations for affordable light weight gel but that still have hold to it? My hair always needs a good hold gel but I want to try a lighter formula.

    What if your hair was actually really healthy when you had super tight curls, and it got damaged (at least curl pattern damaged and manipulated) when you did repeatedly pinned curls?? Maybe that's what affected your curl pattern 🤔 I mean, your hair was always easy to manipulate and you could make your curls ever tighter while using and denman brush or finger coiling...maybe pinned curls manipulated the curl and now it's wavier? Idk

    Hi, great video just sharing my opinion and don’t mean this in a negative way, but it can also be a hormonal thing with age our hair texture and density may change over time but I don’t think that with heat damage your hair should’ve been curlier than it is now that it’s healthy. Hi Jayme🥰everything you said is true. Im going through the same thing. My hair was in between 3b and 3c and now i actually have a mix with 3b and 2c hair which makes is so so difficult to style my hair. I have no idea how to make the 2c parts tighter to be like the rest of my hair. At first I thought I was doing something wrong with my hair when I saw the changes. I do feel like my hair gets dry too fast if I dont use any leave in conditioner as first product. Do you have any advice for me?

    Hi what are your thoughts on keratin treatment for curly hair? Many hairdressers recommended for me but I’m scared it might damage my curls 😩

      My hairdresser has curly hair, he recommends the Virtue line for keratin so that's what I've been using the past year. My hair is definitely healthier than it was before using it.

    When I was 22 my hair became less and less curly so I decided to start to look closer at the ingredients of my curly products and it was soooo bad. So I started to use natural ingredients and product and since then my hair are curlier than ever ! I love following your content but since the beginning I noticed that you use some products that are not that good, I recommend you to find an app that can scan your products and tell you if they are OK or not :)

      I know that hair can also change with hormones and everything, but I think it's also necessary to pick the right products :)

    Question...you are using a definer not a lotion leave in...would you please talk more about that? Do you wash out the definer?

    • @jaymejo
      @jaymejo  Рік тому +1

      Hi!! This is a curl definer so its abit stickier than a leave in. A leave in moisturised and hydrates the hair before styling, but a definer creates shape, hold and definition for the curls

    Going CG was the mistake that changed my hair texture to the point I was going bald and my friends started asking what was going on with my hair. It had thinned, was dry, opaque and my 3a/3b pattern became 2b/2c/3a.
    Blood tests came back ok. My doc gave a diagnostic of androgenetic alopecia, which I didn't accept as this doesn't run in my family.
    Short story, I turned to my routine and realized my problems started with CG. I went back to sulfate and silicones and spent some coin to improve it.
    Nioxin did wonders for me, although it dried my hair. Minoxidil became part of my routine. I also couldn't use oils/butter in my hair or it would fall out.
    It was almost impossible to find products without these substances. Redken Extreme was my savior.
    All in all, almost four years after ditching CG I am way better. The only thing that never came fully back was the curl pattern as I had curls from my roots.
    Now it is changing again as I am going through that pre-menopause period of our lives. It changes with age, care and hormones. My hair was the curliest whenI was on the pull some 20 years ago for example.
    You hair is beautifull now as it always was.

    I think puberty at its peak and now ending puberty is why you're seeing a change in your curls, skin (for some).

    I have also noticed a change in my curl pattern over the past few years.
    Perhaps its due to a change in our hormones as we become more womanly with age.❤
