    Episode 1: The Husband
What makes a good marriage? Dan is smitten when he meets Wendi. But after a lavish wedding and a move to Tallahassee for Dan’s job, cracks in their relationship start to appear. Dan is blindsided when he comes home from a work trip and Wendi is gone. Maybe he should have read her novel.
You're listening to Over My Dead Body from Wondery!
    Series Description
Over My Dead Body is an anthology series about people who are pushed beyond their limits and do unspeakable things.
Season 1: Tally - When this "perfect" couple's relationship falls apart, it leads to a bad breakup, a worse divorce, and a murder case involving a menagerie of high-priced lawyers and unexpected co-conspirators.
In this season of Over My Dead Body, "Tally", listen to the story of Daniel (Dan) Eric Markel who was Canadian-born attorney and a law professor murdered in Tallahassee, Florida, in 2014, in a murder for hire motivated by Markel's divorce from Wendi Adelson. Adelson has not been charged, but she has been named, together with her brother Charlie and mother Donna as "conspirators" in the killing. So far, four individuals, Luis Rivera, Sigfredo Garcia, Katherine Magbanua, and Charlie Adelson. During the time of investigation, a $25,000 CrimeStoppers reward was initially offered as well as a separate, independently funded $100,000 award was offered in July 2015. The Markel Act (Florida grandparental visitation rights) was a development from this case. The murder of Dan Markel and the trial of Katherine Magbanua is covered in the A&E series Court Cam Presents Under Oath. Ongoing Daniel Markel Murder Trial for Katherine Magbanua (found guilty on all charges) in Katherine Magbanua retrial and Charlie Adelson are happening summer 2022.

I became team Danny when Wendi packed up the children and left divorce papers at the home.
It’s absolutely cruel to take children away from a spouse without any attempt at reconciliation/counseling.
Their differences were minor in a normal marriage and any attempt to work toward reconciliation was never attempted by Wendi.

Exactly! I am convinced her mother drove it and Wendi said yes you’re right. Now Wendi has cut her parents out of her life thinking then she won’t get drawn into this dragnet😂😂. I find it hilarious with Donna whining about exactly what they all did to the Markels.

This is incredibly good. Have been following the story for years, but you present a richer, intricate and revealing tale I was unaware of, especially the different values Wendi and Dan actually had. They should have never married. Excellent reporting of their friends and colleagues insights as well.

Angela listening for the 3rd time. I think I’ve missed some key points here. (Could have been distracted, took a phone call, etc) i don’t remember hearing that he would not attend W’s grandmothers funeral because he thought he was a Kohen (from the priestly tribe ), and could not go to a cemetery….that is crazy. How would he even know this? I think this must have started a lot of resentment between Donna and DM.
This is the kind of religious fanaticism that divides families. I have seen it firsthand.
Also, it seems all of W’s female friends were very alpha.
If W told friends she was planning on leaving D, and the specific day, how could his male friends know this and not say anything?
Also interesting is how she had dinner parties, etc…she is not the introvert or the passive, weak, babied damsel we are led to believe.
My opinion, as a Jew…the religious fanaticism was huge.
Of course this has NOTHING to do with the murder of a man.

It's disgusting to watch this and see Wendi and her fake ass crying at the police department. Wendi and her family are horrible evil people. Wendi named Lacasse first knowing that guy had nothing to do with Dan's murder....she tried to set him up but failed. It will be nice when Wendi is finally arrested , and she will be, and gets convicted for her part in Dan's murder. She will go back to Tallahassee, where she hated living, to spend time in prison with Donna and Charlie.

Being Jewish, themselves, the Adelsons know, if you "keep kosher", YOU KEEP KOSHER. Those guests couldn't eat.
How are you about to let people go hungry at YOUR wedding? Hell, the Rabbi had to LEAVE.

She should have told him that she'd go back to him if he left Tallahassee and move to a bigger city...like Miami. She should have $crewed his brains out until they relocated. Will there be new episodes with Magbanua + Garcia’s convictions (Rivera’s confession) + now #charlieadelson ‘s arrest ? #danmarkel ‘s mother has written a book, #theunveiling…and #wendiadelson wore the exact same outfit during Magbanua’s 2nd trial. She seems to be unscathed-new, c-suite job at a successful healthcare start-up as Lead Counsel. Also, another book is out-the author is adamant that Wendi is innocent, as is a frequent blogger, Lat (tax prof) although Reddit + UA-cam seem to disagree vehemently with them.
We’re all interested in hearing more from people like Fitzpatrick, Charlie’s ex-friend who testified, and the mother of Rivera’s wife. And we’ve learned so much about Charlie’s litigious history-he’s sued anything and anyone since he was in college. Also, are Donna and Harvey supported by their immediate community, if they have one. What do previous employees have to say? I think many of us want to hear more from Jeffrey LaCasse. And who are Magbanua’s family members who can fund such an expensive legal team X 2 trials? Her sister in law was charged with embezzlement of $1.1 million in 2018. And last but not least, why Wendi’s tearful interview with police is far from being indicative of innocence (from my perspective as a forensic psychiatrist) and is most compelling for all that it is missing, which seems to be overshadowed by her openly emotional display. Just some thoughts…

Dan Markel was a brilliant legal mind and a tenured professor. Despite a good education, Wendi was a legal mediocrity, and received employment only because she was a trailing spouse. Her book flopped because it had no merit, and consisted of self-absorbed whining. Wendi Markel is the victim of the delusion of equality. Not as tall and not as strong and not as smart, she mistakenly thought she was actually the equal of her husband Dan Markel, but equality is never what any sane woman wants. There is the bitterness of thinking that you are something special, when it is actually your husband who is something special.
Wendi Markel was strong and empowered up until the microsecond where she transformed into a victim. However she wasn't a victim, she was a vindictive organizer of murder. It was organized with the same precision that she displayed when dismantling the marital home.
Wendi Markel and Meghan Markle -> trailing spouses who are in the limelight only because of their husbands.

How terribly sad...that...... "he was relentless with love".......
He's been portrayed by the media as an uptight type A stick in the mud. Why? I've been following this case closely, but haven't had an strong emotional connection to Dan himself. Because of such propaganda.
If he did have those stereotypical traits, it makes it all the more phenomenal-and --and proof positive of how head over heels he was about Wendi. But I guess hindsight is 20/20. I also went thru several phases in my life where I wish my point of view, point of reference, in life we're different. I had so much, but it took losing relationships, possessions, circumstances; ...to recognize what I had once had.
Maybe Wendi would have made better choices, had she been at a different stage in her life.

For Wendi, Dan may have been difficult to live with and, vice versa.....they were very different people. But, taking the kids away from a loving parent (and, subsequently, having that parent murdered), trumps anything Dan might've done. May this be a cautionary tale when seeking a life partner. Educational "pedigree" is only secondary to character, and if someone among the prospective in-laws is "ostracized", find out why. I come from an intelligent/educated family, ostracized bec I dare speak the truth of how our narcissistic mother has controlled our lives which my siblings (except for 1) enabled under the guise of "honor thy father and mother" while she continues to disparage my father who died 25 years ago. Wendi claims Dan was "emotionally abusive" bec he probably refused to coddle her the way hers did.

Perfect storm. Dan's zealot religious ideas, his narcissism, overt selfishness, Wendy's overt narcissism, and selfishness (her two boys losing their father) Charlie's sick family narcissism resulted in this tragedy.
Dan's ideas about criminals having to suffer for the good of society and his inability to see what he was responsible for, his family's suffering is indeed ironic.
