I watched this as a kid and even had the trading cards. I couldn't believe this was coming to 4k. I got the 4k steelbook and can't wait to watch it. Thanks for the review and info.
I bought this fantastic series on DVD from Amazon Germany. The picture has been cleaned up well & audio enhanced. Quite happy with my purchase. Has extras & an invaluable Q&A with the late Richard Hatch too. The show needs a proper remastering (like Kerin's excellent jobs on Vimeo) with new shots & properly expanded scenes.

As a boy I watched this is a strange amalgam of color and black & white, not to mention fuzzy and out of focus, on my grandmother's console tv with a color tube that was going out. Strange diagonal lines were also very apparent. Needless to say, I am pretty excited to see what may be best representation of the film, despite the theatrical ratio playable by cinemas.
It looks amazing and has a whole new feel for me
From the BR-4K comparison shots -- for me the BR came out the winner 7/10 times .
In almost all the 4K shots I came away seeing something softer, something less sharp -- understandable as this is what you have to deal with when attempting to upscale relatively low rez imagery .
In the end it's a matter of taste . Those who enjoy music on vinyl records, will enjoy a 4:3 rendition of BSG on DVD or BR . Those who can only enjoy anything on the "latest" hardware, they will have their 4K illusion of a "superior" experience .

A little disappointing that they didnt enhance the audio into a real 5.1 surround. Spectral analysis plugins for DAWs are getting quite good at element separation..
I'll stick with my bluray complete boxset it's only been out 5 years and my 4k player upscales
How many times are they gonna release this TV movie.
Is the Blu-ray disc a new transfer or is it just the previously released Blu-ray?

I wish they would redo the whole original series. The new crap they put out several years ago with Starbuck as girl... SUCKED!!!

Is this the original Theatrical Movie and not the TV version? In the theatrical version, Starbuck and Cassiopeia are nude in the love scene inside the turbo tub, and the character Baltar is executed at the end. Obviously in the TV version they have clothing on and Baltar is hauled off to be judged. I am looking for the theatrical version.

Sorry, but Starbuck and Cassiopia are not nude in either version. Athena appears nude behind a locker door talking with Starbuck in the TV version, pretty racey for TV. Baltar does get beheaded in the theatrical though.
