Toothpaste is abrasive. I wouldn't use it on the plate, as it will take the letters off. But, metal, glass (headlights) and some plastics, why not.
You can also clean the chain sprockets with toothpaste! It will prevent tooth decay.

The shift knob diagram was a replacement and the blinker light too. The abrasive took off the black inlays on the shift knob and the rubber boot for the blinker aren't the same

Is that a front reg plate on your bike??
1) Cleaning around lock cylinders - Wrong, toothpaste has abrasives in it and is water soluble, the last two things you want to get into the lock cylinder.
2) Same as #1, use a light oil.
3) Again no, clean a license plate (or whatever that was) with car polish.
4) No again. You don't want to use a bristled brush with abrasives that get down into recessed, painted numbers/letters/symbols like you have on a shift knob, and if it were leather instead of a plastic knob then you don't want a water based abrasive solution around that either
5) Finally something toothpaste does reasonably, touching up polycarbonate light housings. However you should not do this until they get cloudy, otherwise the abrasiveness of the toothpaste just wears away at the outer coating on the polycarbonate so it becomes less UV resistant and gets cloudier faster. It is best reserved for use as a maintenance touch-up after a lens had to be completely refurbish polished, and the result will be better if you only use the toothbrush on the cracks, using a fine cloth for the smooth surface of the plastic.
I'm not saying toothpaste won't clean those things, just that it is a worse result than using the proper products instead. Around key cylinders, it would have been better to leave them dirty than get toothpaste grit water in.

@@elixier33 I use graphite powder to lubricate locks or PTFE spray after removing them and cleaning with WD 40 to clear out the crap where previous owners have used WD 40 and dust and dirt has stuck to it and then flushing out with brake cleaner so the lock has all traces of oil removed. Then when dried out apply the graphite or dry PTFE spray.
Who would want to clean a lock cylinder anyway?
I always clean my teeth morning and night!

Using tongue cleaner after applying tooth paste on dirt places of bike will give additional glow rather than to brush merely. Just kidding ! Bhai nice idea. But do you know the same process gives unexpected result and shining on silver ornaments. I have tested and get super results.

This was really strange.. Trust me.
As a cleaner, toothpaste is ok for a few items on your car. The locking gas cap w/a toothbrush is worthwhile because the higher and lower places, but a door lock & the shifting pattern diagram, it's better and easier to use a soft cloth and a small dab of the toothpaste. Using too much makes the cleanup harder. And, of course, there's always the magic cleaner, toothpaste, to clean & brighten headlight covers or it will shine nearly anything clear plastic... , for a while until the abrasive in the toothpaste starts wearing through paint and plastic. Although the toothpaste "hacks" do their job fairly well, it's no permanent panacea for stuff like that!! Use too much for too long and your clear headlight covers will be permanently scratched and foggy and you end up having to buy new ones. Thank God for after market suppliers.

Only the indicator transparent plastic cleaning is useful. Toothpaste also helps in cleaning oxidation a bit from headlights which use plastic instead of glass.

Simple green and a toothbrush do the same thing. But sure pay more for toothpaste
