I get the feeling that the film took some sort of licenses with the story that Ellroy didn't like. It is very different then L.A. Confidentional which he seems more proud of.
That still doesn't explain why he didn't want to promote it. He is such a unique spirit, I could never hope to guess what is going on in his head. Have you read the book? How does it differ from the film overall?
Haha James Ellroy made Dave Chappelles day? nice! I wonder if they did end up hanging out, I would imagine with their un-PC humor they probably had a lot to talk about over a couple of rounds
Knowing that James Ellroy and Dave Chappelle were once in the same room together makes me very happy.
4:21 planted the seeds to one of the best skits on chappelle's show...
watching this interview should be a requirement to get a Bachelor's degree
I actually remember seeing this live! Ellroy is one of a kind!
Ellroy has such a great deadpan sense of humor that it's hard to tell when he's fucking around.
I fondly remember and miss this set.
4:15 did Ellroy give Chappelle the idea for the black Klansman bit?
We're lean, mean and obscene.
Now we know where Dave Chappelle got the idea for the black KKK member!
James Ellroy is a real funny guy, little mad and outrageous but he's fun.
Wow.
4:18 and Clayton Bigsby was born
E;;roy wrote the screenplay for "Street Kings" as well but refused to promote the film for some reason.
I was thinking the same thing. :)
What is folds and crenellation?

Makes me wonder if they ever hung out again

what does it mean when he shakes his fist around 5:17? dumb question I know.
If I ever give an interview, I hope I can be at least compared to this.
Can't believe they seated the poor girl between them 😊

LOL when you agree to interview this nut you better be on your guard.
Listen to Chappelle laughing at 3:48 lol
That was Andy. lol :)
i think he's a mal-adjusted nerd with great ideas as long as he's sitting behind a typewriter.
