My Dark Places is brilliant and well written memoir about the murder of his mother that no one was convicted. The Big Nowhere and The Black Dellia all excellent novels.
An exceptional book. In the documentary “Feast of Blood” covers his mother’s murder and how that, followed by his derelict youth and love of books, created America’s premier noir novelist.
Yes, it will. Ellroy and McCarthy are the greatest American literature Icons of the era. I just hope he finishes the Second L.A Quartet before he passes away.
Ellroy's got the kinda spirit that never dies. He may die in body, but not in spirit. There will always be demon dogs who see the dark for what it is and put it down on paper.
Ellroy is easier to read than he is to see or hear. Just my opinion. I feel that way about many writers. Stephen King, Richard Price, etc, etc. I’d rather just read their work than watch them or listen to them talk.
@@Saturnia2014 just spit ballin.. some of the biggees take on young writers to write in their voice.. Ellroy doesn't seem of that ilk.. think i'm refering to someone else..
maybe i'm wrong.. i think Tom Wolfe has a group of writers doing his "thing".. someone else maybe - Elmore Leonard? it can be a practice of the biggees but maybe i'm wrong on these fellows..@@HabAnagarek
he’s a self-made guy.
nobody went out of their way for him ever,
he did it all in his own.
No rich relatives etc
I have to agree with you what what you wrote about James Ellroy. A really inspiring novelist with infinite artistic courage. (11 October 2023).
Man I love Ellroy. Can’t wait to read The Enchanters.
Why did Ellroy keep leaving LA? "Women kept divorcing me" Priceless.

brilliant video - cheers for the upload
I love reading Ellroy, he doesn't mince words, and have fairly recently gotten into Connolly's Bosch books.
Hot damn!
His death will be a tragedy for American Literature.

Damn, Big Dog looking a bit thinner and older. Makes me sad knowing he's not gonna be around forever (hate to be grim) :(
Still waiting on that Trilogy about the Clintons
Two more of the second LAQ to come, one in-betweener (The Enchanters) in September. I hope you're healthy! 😄
Didn’t he say that he ditched the second LA quartet ? 😞
@@davidpacheco5764 I missed that. Do you have a link?
@@dontutchmi he says it in this video at 12:40
@@davidpacheco5764 lol thanks! Lost connection and didn't watch the end.
He looks damned good at 75.
The best novelist ever. Ellroy, I mean.

Hard feelings, what do you know about hard feelings? Ever have a man die in your arms? Ever kill somebody?
YEAH!
Does Ellroy have Parkinson’s?
Too bad he ditched the 2nd L.A Quartet…
his speech sounds slurred. i hope he's doing ok
how much *actual* writing does Ellroy do, and how much of it is guns for hire, doing the Ellroy thing.. ?
What gives away that he isn't writing his own material?

That's quite an accusation, isn't it? Never heard anything to the effect that Ellroy runs a writing factory. Christ, I'd be heartbroken.
He has said that he writes longhand. Is everything he says 25% fact?
