The thing that makes (the original) The Crow so powerful and enduring is the passion and intensity that O’Barr puts into every image, every page, every scene. It’s haunting- something you never forget. And everything that has been called The Crow ever since has been a cheap cash-in, with no insight, nothing to add, no sense that they understand what makes the original great.
Its funny Jim said the wrestler Sting could have kept changing his gimmick to whatever the next popular clown character was. But That's exactly what he did. After The Dark Knight, he changed from Crow Sting to Joker Sting. Look up Joker Sting TNA.
the first crow i read came with the soundtrack The Crow city of angels 1996 it was a mini comicbook i cant remember the artist and i no longer have the CD :(
I remember in the 90s Alex Maleev drew a Crow mini series for Kitchen Sink and the art was so good I bought it even though I wasn't much of a fan of the Crow at the time, I remember the Todd Crow comics being a huge step down from that.
I remember seeing this toilet paper on the shelves. After throwing up in my mouth, I rinsed out the taste by re-reading the original. Same thing with the new trailer, lol.
Yeah, there was a mini Australian invasion with Ben Templesmith and Ashley Wood in the early 00s. They helped put IDW on the map with 40 Days and an adaptation of Metal Gear Solid and they both worked on McFarlane properties. Ashley Wood moved away from that style and got a lot better as an illustrator since.
The only other Crow comics (besides the OG) I liked were Dead Time by Alex Maleev, and Flesh & Blood which also had solid art and storytelling. Past those and the OG, the rest were a hard pass.
So was James O'Barr a one-hit wonder? Which is fine, lots of artists make a living on a single piece of work. I just don't recall any subsequent projects from him. maybe some other Crow stories?
The Crow was a straight up mental release from O'Barr after losing his fiancé. I do believe he did other things but nothing that really hit. He did write The Crow: Dead Time and the Crow: Flesh & Blood at Kitchen Sink Press. Both of those stories showcased different Crows and were enjoyable to me.
The Crow is such a wasted property. Such squandered potential, and isn't it just like Hollywood to sh*t all over Brandon Lee's legacy by milking it with bad sequels? We should have gotten higher quality comics & movies but it's probably too late, and it will always be seen as a 90's thing. This is also a missed trick for McFarlane, he should have crossed over with Spawn.
I haven't read this nor the original Crow comic but I am familiar with the art work on the original Crow. Looking at this art and comparing it to the O'Barr Crow I much prefer this.

It's Art with a capital 'A', made in the midst of grief. Anything not that, or the original film adaptation may as well not exist.
The 1st Image Comics issue cover sold me. Pre-ordered on the spot. The interior art made me return a comic for the first and only time in my life.
RIP Ed Piskor
Rip I'll miss the podcast

The new Crow looks like Steve O

Tim Bradstreet did the cover art for it, which was misleading because the interiors were rough.
Watching this now has a whole different feeling. RIP Ed Piskor.
The Crow Curare is very good and made by O'barr
Isn't Todd McFarlane's version of The Crow called Spawn?
No, that's McFarlane's version of Faust.

Yeah? This is an example of what happens if you leave a beloved IP in the wrong hands. 🐦⬛💩

It was Kent Williams Blood and Wolveine: The Killing influence.
And McKean's Cages
The new Crow movie looks like it sucks too. lol
johnny the homicidal maniac is one of the more successful examples of that scratchy messy style that comes to mind.

The new Crow looks like Darby Allen
Climbs Everest in act 4 😂
The minute I saw the footage for the new film, the Image series is what came to mind

Was it as bad as Todds Ozzy Osbourne music video ? Also have seen Apathy & Celph Titled's Todd Mc Farlane track & clip ?
Is this the Muth that took over art at the end of 90's Silver surfer and literally made me physically ill with his square non decript art style?
