I worked in Harrods T3 and T4 from about March 1998 to December 1999 I loved it, my dream was to become Cabin crew, on my break I used to sit and watch Concord take off in the evening. Now I fly out of T3 as I’m long haul Cabin Crew, my dream came true in 2006.
I used to be a regular visitor in those days. In my teens and used to love Heathrow, after spending all day on the viewing tower I’d go to terminal three and have a Burger King. Even sitting in the check in area and watching people check in their baggage to destinations all over the world was amazing. It was an unexplainable atmosphere. Then evening would approach I would make my way back to the queens building to greet the giants in from the Far East.
Will there ever be days like that again???

This is nice to see, like a window into a previous era. At that time you could go to the terminal and enjoy the restaurants, shops and ultimately see your loved ones off. We went there loads of times to not only pick up relatives from India or the USA but to also meet my father's friends who used to have layovers in London whilst awaiting a connecting flight to wherever (often they were going to India, USA or the Middle East and stopped in London). My father would always get me something to eat, often at Burger King or Sbarro because he enjoyed that kind of food. We'd also see people from all over the world, that we would never see in our usual lives. Notably I always saw mostly Americans.
Of course now, only those with a boarding pass are allowed. But it was a great and magical time back then.
We don't HAVE to be paranoid we choose it!
Amazing footage - I love these nostalgic videos although they would be better with sound! I often wonder when watching these films, where are all those people now? What are they doing, where are they? Would be interesting to find out....

I only once visited an airport before 9/11 with my dad to pick up my grandparents. After that I wouldn't take a personal trip until 2014 so these videos are kind of a trip.

My story is set early 90s and at the moment they are at heathrow airport. This video is very useful bc I was born in the 200s and have no clue what the airport looked like back then.

3:16 thats a double decker Airbus so it must be an A380: in 1980?
The cars look late 80's to me. Surely a double decker just carries more people to the airport.

Heathrow Airport And Its Surrounding Towns Were Way Much Better Back Then Compared To What Its Become In The Past 26/27 Years.
What are the silver circles for next to the lit up airline signs on the check in desks? They look like some kind of fan? Whatever they are we don’t have them now.
