What I love about this time is the fact that there was no "EasyJets" "RyanAir" etc...it's just Airlines from countries and that was so much cooler. You knew which countries they were from and where they were going/coming from.
Brilliant film! Brings back such good memories of my trips to LHR/LGW in the late 80's!! L1011's, DC-10's, 727's, the Tupolev's, not to mention the DC-8's and 707's!!! All the old girls!! It's just not the same with all the new breed of aircraft about nowadays. Don't get me wrong, the safety aspect of aircraft is so much more advanced than it was back in the day, but still miss the old machines!! Thanks for posting this!
BA's A320 aside, the only aircraft "relic" still flying today, out of this 1989 Heathrow hodge-podge, is probably the Tu-154, but it would no longer be in Malev's livery. Possibly a couple of these 737-300s too. But that would be it.
I am so priviledged to be still living under their flight paths in 2015 remembering Concorde blasting over my house and watching it banking on my road always left me speechless on every ocassion kindly taken over by the A380. As did when she landed on either 27L and 27R I will intend on moving closer to Heathrow and not further away as I believe that this airport should be called "Harvir' Heathrow" after me.
Those aircraft engine sounds at Heathrow, just awesome !! And, those majestic 747's of BA .. all lined up; what a delight !! Nice to see that AI Jumbo Jet take off from LHR, probably on its way to BOM. Wow !! You even managed to capture the run and take off of the majestic BA Concorde !! Great spotting !!
14:23 *BRITISH AIRWAYS CONCORDE!!!!!* Man i wish those planes were still around plus that amazing retro livery!! *i'd like to see that livery* on one of British Airways's *787s or A350s*
Never did get to see a Concorde unfortunately, I did however hear their sonic boom occasionally when I lived in the South-West of Ireland. As for that old British Airways livery, I don't know if you're aware of this, but to celebrate their centenary this year they retro painted some of their 747-400's. Here's a link to a video, hope it's useful to you (mind your volume as the noise from the wind is quite intense!). ua-cam.com/video/I0ONNV0anhs/v-deo.html
Also, they've even gone and painted one in the BOAC livery! As you may already know, British Airways evolved out of the break up of BOAC. Here's a link to said retro livery. ua-cam.com/video/r773ZhIBlsY/v-deo.html
Thanks for uploading this video. Brings back memories of when my parents and I spent a day watching the planes at Heathrow. You saved the best for last. When we went, we only just got there in time to see Concorde take off- sadly we'll never have that opportunity again.
A blast from the past. What a great video! Just how it should be. Straight aviation action, original sound and no music or other video-pollution. Thanks for posting this!
I absolutely love this video, it's like stepping back in time seeing all those now long gone airliners that I grew up with. I was just a spotty teenager when this was filmed! A real treat, thanks for uploading it.
I worked as a stewardess on many 727's back in the late 60's and 70 but my favorite to work was the Boeing 707 from NY to LA flying out of JFK especially in First Class. Champagne anyone?
Patrick what a pleasure to see the golden old timers in action in this superb video. The action gives me goosebumps when we both young especially the picture of the Concorde seen both in action at Charles de Gaulle and Toronto Pearson my home town. The last flight we are as a family was on a Tristar to Charles de Gaulle in 1983 it has been so many years since I have been on a flight. Nothing like the oldies good solid metal made to last!! Patrick have a great week and weekend mate catch you on the next flight!!
I always considered the old livery to be one of the most bland and boring out there. The new livery is an improvement, less white, but rather conservative. But then they are a conservative airline.
It’s sad to see reminders of some excellent airlines that are no more as well as aircraft that were so much more comfortable than today’s squeeze boxes. Sabena, PanAm, TWA,
How fitting to save the best and only outstanding plane (The Concorde) to be last in this video. This is the only reason why I watched the video. I can't get enough of the Concorde.
I live under the flight path too, i miss Concorde going over everyday, and i cannot remember the last time i saw a three engined plane....these planes seem very old despite it being not to long ago...
Chris Dans Shame... I really miss the old planes.... variety is the spice of life. Technology has improved and eventually you'll only see 2 engined planes due to economy of scale. The large 474 and 380s will be a distant memory.
Heavy bulk loading aircraft 200 bags to 300 bags in cargo hold ... dragging them from the door way Lucky I am working on widebody aircraft today as shown above in 1989
Lovely afternoon memories for me too ... halcyon days long before terrorists put paid visits to the viewing deck area. AI 747s on their daily afternoon Kennedy run just after 1 pm and Concorde on its 2nd daily to the same city. Wonderful! And AC as well as BA Tristars. Miss both chubbies so much ...
I am so priviledged to be still living under their flight paths in 2015 remembering blasting over my house and watching it banking on my road always left me speechless. As did when she landed on either 27L and 27R I will intend on moving closer to Heathrow and not further away as I believe that this airport should be called "Harvir' Heathrow" after me.
Oh! Those Happy Days ! Plane Spotting at the End of the Runways at Heathrow with my kids in the Back standing on the seat with the Roof open screaming if the next plane was coming and Even Louder if it was Concord !
Lufthansa livery has never changed. Even now they've got the Boeing 747-8, Airbus A380, they've got nearly every single commercial plane and yet their livery has changed. i wonder what Lufthansa's History would have been like!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ah, those halcyon days when one could jump on the tube and hit the Queens Building (and even T-3 and T-2) for a Summer's day of spotting and nary a visit from security or the Police. If only I had a 'Way Back Machine'...
CF1964 Pan am and Twa had some planes based in Europe. From US, passengers in transit to some cities in Eastern Europe (and beyond) were flying with those planes. TW847 Athen-Rome was hijacked in 1985. It was a 727
Omg Heathrow airport 1989 the last time I went abroad 26 September 1989 I went to New York with my dad I remember after the plane took off I vomited in toilet afterwards I fell asleep on my dad's lap I was only 9 I was so scared and I have not been abroad since then
They flew between Heathrow & other European airports like a Pan am European domestic aircraft. The bomb that brought down the Pan am 747 flight 103 over Lockerbie was originally flowen on a Pan am 727 from Frankfurt.
I will look it up. I too that is been in the travel business for over 20 years also. Just with United alone 21 years not including the other airlines I worked for. Also not including my parents, we are a airline family. But I will look it up. For the 727s that were used in LHR were reconfigured much different than the ones in the states. I was told by the ex Pan Am FAs based in LHR that these Airplanes in LHR that they were their old planes.
Yes you right... I love the Old British Airways Livery. With the Monarchy sign on it. That showed the world we are British and proud. They should bring it back. I think when changed the livery in the 90s that was the worst decision every made by BA.
pan am and twa had some narrow body based in Europe. They connected London, Frankfurt with some cities in the East of Europe. I was flying TWA from Warszava to Prague then the flight final destination was Frankfurt.
Oh, the "good old days" b4 Ryan Air when you had to be an effing millionaire to fly anywhere in Europe for a "quickie" with your girlfreind (in my case) in Munich. God bless Ryanair!. Love you Michael.
Who's watching in 2019 and still loving these Golden Oldies 💙🇬🇧
Golden oldies? It was 1989 not the Dark Ages, moron.
Me. On 21th May 2023.
im still loving these but im watching this in 2024.
What I love about this time is the fact that there was no "EasyJets" "RyanAir" etc...it's just Airlines from countries and that was so much cooler. You knew which countries they were from and where they were going/coming from.
At 14:25: here comes her majesty, Concorde...
Yes... in all her splendour
FR T-Rexx ye
Absolutely YES
So true. The empress of the sky 🙏🏻
BA's Landor livery looks great especially on Concord
Wow remember viewing from there like it was yesterday 30years ago and the landor livery is back at least on one 747. Great vid thanks.
Nicely edited video, showing different airlines in turn and finishing with Concorde
Brilliant film! Brings back such good memories of my trips to LHR/LGW in the late 80's!!

did Concorde blasting over your house? seriously!
Paaji, I really envy you. !!! :(

That JAT 737 looks great in that livery, also that plane was just a year old when this video was taken.
JAT was the first B737 customer in Europe
The first was Lufthansa’s -100 wasn’t it?
A blast from the past. What a great video! Just how it should be.
Straight aviation action, original sound and no music or other video-pollution.
Thanks for posting this!
13:33 do i see an early BA a320, presumably inherited from the B-CAL order after the merger?
Who's watching in 2020 and still loving these Golden Oldies 💙🇬🇧
If only time travel existed, would love to see this in person.
fantastic brings back my childhood thanks so much for uploading
Rough go seeing the TWA and Pan Am flights...RIP...
I just realised Lufthansa's logo is so old...
At least from the 1970s
I absolutely love this video, it's like stepping back in time seeing all those now long gone airliners that I grew up with. I was just a spotty teenager when this was filmed! A real treat, thanks for uploading it.
11:54 I’d recognize that engine sound anywhere, TU-154, I love it
The Concorde is truly the most beautiful airplane to have been created.
Along with the 747 and L1011 as well.
Many memories on the Queens building as a growing lad in the eighties, thanks for the post.
I worked as a stewardess on many 727's back in the late 60's and 70 but my favorite to work was the Boeing 707 from NY to LA flying out of JFK especially in First Class. Champagne anyone?
I joined BA flying 747 Classics April 89…. what great memories of all those long lost winged friends.
Wow, this really takes me back to the better days! Great vid! Priceless!
found you before u did yt vids kekw
My god,the BAC 111 was still in service that time-unbelieveable! Thanks for sharing.
+Altenholz it's still in service now. albeit limited.
Beautiful video of an era long gone =)
Great upload, really enjoyed. Thanks.
This really is amazing!!! If only clocks could tick backwards

Beautiful! Brought back tons of memories for me!
Very very good . I lived in W9 (walterton rd,) in '89/90 and I used to love seeing the concorde fly over . Cheers
Amazing to see old planes Airbus A300, DC 9, Tristard L1011, etc & some airlines gone...
Many happy hours spent on queens building...good to see Malev, JAT, TWA and Pan Am
Logged most of these back then, from viewing gallery over Terminal 2.
Thank you very much for this historical video. Good to see airlines like TWA, PanAm.
Lufthansa still looks the same almost 30 years later :-)
Same goes for Air France, kind of...
Now not anymore ;/
I always considered the old livery to be one of the most bland and boring out there. The new livery is an improvement, less white, but rather conservative. But then they are a conservative airline.
@@valobrien9596 The new livery is pure White with a blue tail. What new livery are you looking at?
It’s sad to see reminders of some excellent airlines that are no more as well as aircraft that were so much more comfortable than today’s squeeze boxes. Sabena, PanAm, TWA,
Great to see the Concorde again.
Wonderful video
AWESOME VIDEO!!!
懐かしい!ボーイング727!しかも今は亡きパンナム!その他にも747等
お宝映像ですね!
How fitting to save the best and only outstanding plane (The Concorde) to be last in this video. This is the only reason why I watched the video. I can't get enough of the Concorde.
nice take off from the Concorde at the end!
what a beautiful sight it is to see that
L1011 and 742 of ACA. Something I never got to see unfortunately. The concorde was a great catch too
You can see Terminal 4 in the background as Concorde takes off. It has the yellow jetbridges. T4 was finished in the mid 1980s.
Taxing SST against a B741 and an L10 - all Speedbirds - rare quality - great video
I live under the flight path too, i miss Concorde going over everyday, and i cannot remember the last time i saw a three engined plane....these planes seem very old despite it being not to long ago...

Shame... I really miss the old planes.... variety is the spice of life.

It will come back
Also there are Still some MD-11’s around
I started flying as crew in 89. I’m still going just about..
すごいビデオ!レトロ飛行機が美しいだよ。そして、コンコードはいつもきれいと女王系ね。この英国人から、ほんとありがとう!
It looks and was years ahead of the other planes.
WOW.Concorde,classic plane's very nice.Thank you.
Imagine what the Concorde would look like today
Omg that is soo oldschool.Beautiful.
Heavy bulk loading aircraft 200 bags to 300 bags in cargo hold ... dragging them from the door way
Lucky I am working on widebody aircraft today as shown above in 1989
great stuff!
My dad got to fly on Concorde, I wish I could have

I wanted to open a snack shop on the queens building back then. Lucky I didn't. Had many wonderful memories there though. What an array of planes!
+blap200 Thank you for the comment.

superb collection
quality videos just wish there was more of past times like this 1

+Samuel Jesuthas because it's phenomenally beautiful, they changed it since they started the airline though it's just that they look kinda same.
Great memories! 10/10
Ah, those halcyon days when one could jump on the tube and hit the Queens Building (and even T-3 and T-2) for a Summer's day of spotting and nary a visit from security or the Police. If only I had a 'Way Back Machine'...
Big like! Great!
0:30 did the plane's landing gear left the floor?
Times where flying used to be an adventure...
Aer Lingus at 5:10 looks great!
How did a Pan Am 727 make it across the pond? 5:50
CF1964 Pan am and Twa had some planes based in Europe. From US, passengers in transit to some cities in Eastern Europe (and beyond) were flying with those planes. TW847 Athen-Rome was hijacked in 1985. It was a 727
Ahhhh, the early B.A A320-100. I believe that was 'acquired' via British Airway's absorption of British Caledonia.
Rich bitches were riding the concorde in 1989, its 2012 and I barely afford economy...
LOL
A round trip ticket from NY to London on Concorde was almost $13,000 in today’s money
Nao nakagawa. 747 Jumbo jet is my favorite classic plane. Twa, Pan Am, B.o.a.c and Delta.
LH727 is like: 'Don't f*** with me'. Great looking plane in that retro livery.
Omg Heathrow airport 1989 the last time I went abroad 26 September 1989 I went to New York with my dad I remember after the plane took off I vomited in toilet afterwards I fell asleep on my dad's lap I was only 9 I was so scared and I have not been abroad since then
it's realy classic!!!!
i really liked working them... with 6 fa's and a full hot service.. i loved it..
Intresting it looks as Alitalia is the only aircraft who still send the same aircraft with the same livery...
Oh - I thought you were talking about the livery at 7:30 : )
What was the Pan Am 727 at LHR for?
They flew between Heathrow & other European airports like a Pan am European domestic aircraft. The bomb that brought down the Pan am 747 flight 103 over Lockerbie was originally flowen on a Pan am 727 from Frankfurt.
Does anyone know on what route Pan Am was operating the 727 in the 80s and 90s please?
LHR-AMS
LHR-FRA
LHR-HAM
LHR-MUN

air canada l1011 with a 727 third engine intake? at 3:07
how?
i just love the old british airways and scandinavian airlines livery.
Yes you right... I love the Old British Airways Livery. With the Monarchy sign on it. That showed the world we are British and proud. They should bring it back. I think when changed the livery in the 90s that was the worst decision every made by BA.
BA had yet to have the b744s at this point. Haunting
Not true, the first joined in 1989.
djiwebster1 did you read what I wrote?? Paint
Yes, i read it.
Wow it looks like Maiquetia, Venezuela (SVMI) all those DC9, 727 and 737-200
pan am and twa had some narrow body based in Europe. They connected London, Frankfurt with some cities in the East of Europe. I was flying TWA from Warszava to Prague then the flight final destination was Frankfurt.
And you watched the whole thing !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I never new 727s had such range! (5:50)
jings..and we all thought we were in the modern era back then.
Why it the title in English and the description in Japanese?
Why did the Concorde almost sound like a prop?
Why was there a Pan Am 727 there?
Interesting that they didn't use any wing-walkers back in those days.
Oh, the "good old days" b4 Ryan Air when you had to be an effing millionaire to fly anywhere in Europe for a "quickie" with your girlfreind (in my case) in Munich. God bless Ryanair!. Love you Michael.
Anyone's here on 2019
Wow, concorde in landoar colors
